So after deciding to actually sit down and listen to The Unspoken King (and having to scrub my ears out with steel wool after crying fitfully into tissue for half an hour at the realization that Cryptopsy are over) I decided to give Once Was Not another chance. Much to my happiness I'm actually enjoying it, I never really cared for it much. Perhaps I'm just nostalgic since this is the last Worm album? Irregardless it's solid and the last real Cryptopsy album.

Also relating to The Unspoken King, what is sad about it is that not only is it generic but that even if it wasn't Cryptopsy it's still only decent at best. There are some good riffs here and there, and some mildly enjoyable parts but at it's best it's highly derivative and at it's worst it's absolutely dreadful. Cryptopsy have seemingly also abandoned their fans and made hilariously bad sound clip which show their opinion of people that have been with them since the beginning and through the DiSalvo period, seeing a ray of hope when Lord Worm returned only to have that dashed into the ground with this pile of uncooked tripe.

It would be more respectful for them to lay the name Cryptopsy to rest and continue on under a different one, but sadly that probably won't happen.

RIP Cryptopsy, for good.
