Yes it is, it's magnificent.
Tomorrow I'm going into town and I only have enough money for one CD. I've been wanting to get Maiden's new album, but I've also been wanting to pick up a Children Of Bodom album. Is Maiden's new album truly as great as the hype proclaims it to be? 'Cause I'm not really sure what to buy.
I'm extremely biased in answering this because as far as I'm concerned CoB can crawl back under whatever rock they came from and die. And I love Maiden.

Whilst trying to be as un-biased as possible, The new Maiden album, really does deserve all of its hype, its a fantastically written album, the only problem I find with it is it's production (which surprised me, because the last two albums sounded amazing) but even still, it works, alot of the songs sound cool when raw like that, so in a word, yes. Buy it.

Congrats, you've probably gotten someone with a legitimate interest in Maiden and the ability to put together a sentence and bring up an original point to leave the boards because of the superiority of the regs.

Lord Abortion 09-09-2006 07:57 PM

I would give it 9.99/10, the only slight downside is Bruce's vocals aren't high enough in the mix.

Sounds good. I'll probably go with Maiden then. Just curious, what album does it sound most likie out of their earlier works. If it sounds anything like Powerslave I'm definitely going to get it. Powerslave is one of my all-time favourite albums.

Lord Abortion 09-09-2006 08:06 PM

It's been described as a cross between Seventh son, X-Factor and Brave New World, but it has so many individual touches that make it something unlike Maiden have ever done before.

I love the production on AMOLAD. It's not "mushy" and the drums aren't too loud, like Brave New World and Dance of Death. With the choice to skip mastering, I think Kevin and Steve found something that works extremely well.

MrConeman 09-09-2006 10:10 PM

The drums definatly sound better on AMOLAD, I give it that. But the lead guitars dont cut through the mix quite aswell as on BNW or DoD I dont think, and I also agree that Bruce is a touch too loo in the mix. All in all though the album still has a good production level and pretty cool sound, but its the amazing songs that make this album, as always :)

To be honest, it really depends on what you're looking for and what CoB album you want to pick up. If you're okay with more epic tracks, that take a few listens to fully appreciate before you get hooked on them, then go with the new maiden, but if you want something more fast-paced that is packed with tons of melodies, then go for early Bodom (haven't listened to their more recent albums).

It's all on you :thumb:

loathed 09-10-2006 04:40 AM

What songs do you think are going to be played live off a matter of life and death?

-The Frank 09-10-2006 05:09 AM

The whole album is

JamJar 09-10-2006 05:41 AM

Has it actually been confirmed that they're playing the whole album though? Because I don't want them to play the entire album at my first Maiden gig. :(

Lord Abortion 09-10-2006 05:43 AM

It hasn't been confirmed at all, it's naught but rumour and speculation.
You're a ****ing retard.
Not nice, dude. May I remind you that these are just my opinions. I'm not telling you that X-Factor (for example, as before) is a poorly made album, it's just my opinion that it sounds tired and lacks the energy of previous and eventually later (DOD, AMOLAD) albums.

However, if you enjoy some of the Maiden albums that I don't so much, it doesn't really matter. I think we can all agree that they're over all an incredible band, which defined their own style, and stand as the must-listen-to of NWOBHM.

Quiksilver26 09-10-2006 10:51 AM

eh, I'd consider them to be the must-listen-to of metal :)

1. Please don't take the internet too seriously.
2. The X-Factor marked a point in the Band's career where alot of bad things were happening to the band and Steve in particular, the dark tone and lack of energy you percieve is a very good thing to me, it's much more introverted, sparked by that magnificent vocal performance from Blaze, it's easily a far, far better album than the previous 2. Which really do sound tired, Bruce doesn't sound brilliant, and the arrival of Blaze on the X-Factor gives the band a much-needed kick up the arse from the frankly poor-quality albums by the standards of Maiden that are No Prayer and Fear of the Dark.
3. Brave New world and AMOLAD are magnificent albums, true, although DOD is a little lacking in a new direction and inginuity, apart from Paschendale, Journeyman, and The title track, it is a little difficult to see anything other than admittedly great, Maiden.
4. Maiden have been the best band on the face of the earth for the past 25+ years.

Quiksilver26 09-10-2006 03:09 PM

I'd be willing to bet that they were a better band than 98% of everyone else before they were even formed :p. Born even :amaze:

Rallah!

Lord Abortion... so ok, your probaly king of this thread now, but be nice!

A Fact:
The X Factor is my Favorite Maiden album, t sounds full, every instrument is plenty loud enough, and Steves playing is great! So is his tone. and the album have very much energy, but it is darker than most other maiden stuff, wich make it sound "less Energetic"..

Thank you.
I heard a rumor that they're rebuilding thier Powerslave set for a tour in 2008. Can anyone confirm this for me?
I think there's an interview somewhere with Bruce on Maidenfans.com. I'm just checking. In the meantime, read this: it's funny:

EDIT: Hmm...I found a reference to it here: http://www.maidenfans.com/index.php?ACT=module&name=rwnews&area=article&nid=2172&hl=2008%20tour

-The Frank 09-11-2006 03:20 AM

So i was listening to BoH today and when they played prowler it really sounded like Paul dianno was introducing the song

But i am guessing its just harris?
Can anyone confirm?

Lord Abortion 09-11-2006 05:59 AM

Yeah, That's Steve doing it I think.

-The Frank 09-11-2006 06:59 AM

Its just odd hearing Steve introduce a song.

Anyway, i came this close (l l) to caveing in and listening to the album steam on AOL.com, but i preservered (sp?) I think im about to crack though
Just got to keep thinking - just a few more days, just a few more days....-

rik 09-11-2006 09:08 AM

So apparently Nicko uses his gong in two tracks on AMOLOD. I haven't been listening out for it, anyone know the two tracks he uses it on?
