I really, really want to try projecting... I may try Lucid dreaming tonight, but I have no idea how to start.

Steerpike 09-19-2005 09:56 PM
Okay, well Steerpike, what do you think about Lucid Dreaming and Astral Projection and things like that? That is if you're still on.
I'm actually attempting to start lucid dreaming next week.

The trick discussed in the thread over at Politics was to make a habit of drawing a black dot on your palm and periodically look at it. Eventually, that habit will carry over into your dreams and when you don't see it, you'll realize you're dreaming.

I figure if nothing else, it'll give me a nice mental theater to rehearse my *ahem* social skills.

Moses 09-19-2005 09:57 PM
I really like a lot of Alex Grey's artwork. A lot of it looks similiar, but he really has an extremely unique style. (Duh)

Moses- Have you ever tried Lucid dreaming, or projecting?
I actually thought I was going to project once. It was during the summer and I felt all the sensations you're supposed to feel but I pulled myself out of it. I haven't tried Lucid Dreaming yet but I think I'll look into it.

Also Steerpike I remember reading about that dot trick.

Steerpike, I asked in teh *seether* thread if you liked Tool. Well, do you?

denboy 09-19-2005 10:01 PM

All I know about lucid dreaming is, that ever since the first time I read an article about it (I think, a little more than a year ago), I've remembered several dreams every night.... Some of them seeming more than several days long.. It's quite scary at times..

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-19-2005 10:04 PM

I tried doing the whole dot thing, but I got sick of looking at it..:-/ I'm not tr00 to my cause, heh.

Moses 09-19-2005 10:12 PM

My significant other is a really mystic person and she has a passion for fantasy and things of that sort. She said sometimes she makes a story up in her head before she goes to sleep and then has a dream of it that night if she really tries hard enough. I mean she doesn't do this often but it has happened before.

Well I'm off to meditation and bed.

It's growing on me.

Moses 09-20-2005 02:19 PM

What's are you listening to by them so far?

Red Cow 09-20-2005 03:34 PM

Hey,i have a question bout lucid dreaming, Iv done it(weather intentionaly or not) and found that though im aware im dreaming in most circumstances i find i have no real control so for any of those who have achived it did yea find this aswell?

Steerpike 09-20-2005 04:07 PM
What's are you listening to by them so far?
Mostly the most well-known songs, the easiest to get ahold of. Schism, Parabola, that sort of thing.

Darkness 09-20-2005 04:13 PM

Get The Grudge, that song is just so awesome... Lateralus to.

Partially lucid. Most people have plenty of those. I just had my first lucid dream in recent recollection, and I basically had complete control. Changing the environment, making my own actions, etc..

Alex- Glad to see you're starting to like them. You should try to download all of Lateralus. :)

Dried Muffin Remnants 09-20-2005 04:51 PM

I can play any Tool song on my guitar. (doubt I could on drums). Hell, I wouldn't have a prayer on the drums. I can't play complex polyrythms.
Alex- Glad to see you're starting to like them. You should try to download all of Lateralus.
Opiate - aggressive rock bordering on metal
Undertow - dark, haunting rock with poor recording quality
Aenima - ambient hard rock/ prog
Lateralus - hard prog rock all the way

This is my non-biased take on all of their albums. Now with that said, Aenima is my favorite because I feel that the longer/ambient tracks are more enjoyable than the longer/ambient tracks on Lateralus. Push!t and THird Eye are better than, say, Reflection and Lateralus IMO.

Was it just completely awesome? Or not really any big deal? I seem to suck at this kind of stuff..I've been trying to lucid dream for a couple weeks with no results. One time, I was dreaming, and I kept looking at the clock and the time would be substantially different each time I looked at it. And I said to myself, "hey, I"m dreaming, I'm dreaming, I'm dreaming" at which point I felt myself begin to wake up, followed by a weird sensation of spiraling downward into a portal (think Alice in Wonderland or something), and then I woke up on the floor screaming. The screaming could've been in the dream, but it felt like I actually screamed.

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-20-2005 05:07 PM

I almost cried in mine. Here's what I remember

I killed a guy 13 times, because my parents told me to do so, or so I thought. After I killed him, I went back to my parents, and they told me I was only supposed to give him nitrous(laughing gas), which incidentally was the last way I killed him. Then, I told myself to wake up, and I did, but I still had that lingering feeling of "oh crap, I killed a guy!" Then I woke up again. I was having a lucid dream within a dream, I guess.

Kage 09-20-2005 05:10 PM

Haha, that's some dream. I know exactly what you mean by that "lingering feeling." I usually have that right after I wake up from a dream. It can work in the other direction, too, like "awesome, I can't wait to see my really hot and cool girlfriend."

And then...not.

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-20-2005 05:14 PM

 I'd rather have a bad lingering feeling, because the realization that your dream wasn't real once you awake is really quite the kick to the nuts. :-/

I had a dream I found a bunch of gold once. How greedy am I? :p

Kage 09-20-2005 05:18 PM

Hahaha. I've had the dream a couple times where I kill someone as well. Then I wake up, and I know that I'll be going to jail in a few hours and have to face my family.

I really want to lucid dream, though, damn it!

Steerpike 09-20-2005 05:19 PM

I can only remember my dreams occassionally. And I'll tell you, it's pretty fucked up.

The most recent one was last spring. I was getting all psyched because I had just seen the trailer for Land of the Dead, and that night I had a dream that I was on the set for a Romero zombie movie. It was in a hospital waiting room, then the zombies broke in and turned out to be real zombies instead of actors.

When I found that out, I ran like hell and hid in a bathroom stall. The crazy thing is, it worked and the zombies left without noticing me.

Dried Muffin Remnants 09-20-2005 05:26 PM

Go to bed early, seriously. Twice last week, I went to bed at like 7:30-8 and I had lucid dreams both nights. If you have more time to rest your mind, you have more of an opportunity to be half-awake and thus lucid dream.

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-20-2005 05:28 PM

Also, talking about it, and reading about it will give you a higher probability of making something happen. Yesterday, I talked and read about a bunch of metaphysical stuff, and poof, I had a lucid dream. :)

Dried Muffin Remnants 09-20-2005 06:06 PM

I wonder if smoking weed has any effect on lucid dreaming?

Futuro 09-20-2005 06:22 PM

I control dreams all the time, I had one where Kuppa was stealing my bike on top of Walmart. But the Mario Bros. Pop'd out of a tube on the top of Walmart (they even made the "bwitahbwitah" sound. So anyway I turned into rambo "looking like a mix between NES and movie" and started bustin caps in Koopa till he handed over my bike.....Than my mom woke me up.

When i was younger i REALLY wanted to go on "bozo the clown show", so i dreamed i was a contestant. A month later....i got on the show in real life :O it was amazing, I even got his autograph

Txus 09-20-2005 07:05 PM

I had one last week, All of a sudden I was in this musky hotel-like room. There was another person in there. I don't know how I knew, but this was a bad person. Next I believe that I shot him, or someone did, but I have no recollection of this act, but it'll make a little more sense in another line or two.

The person is lying dead on the bed, at least I thought he was dead. All of a sudden the body moves. I take a step towards it and it starts to move more. I get freaked THEN it sits up and starts doin' some Evil Dead-ish stuff & that's when I can't take it anymore.

I start to run out of the room. On my way out, I see an end table with a GUN & a pack of cigarettes on it. I remember thinking, "I should really grab that gun." But I kept on running out of the room & down the long hall.

Now remember, I'm still dreaming at this point.

I get half-way down the hall when I hear the commotion coming out of the room I just left in my wake.

I was so effen scared that I remember thinking very clearly, "THIS IS SO ****IN' SCARY THAT IT CANNOT BE REAL!!!!!"

Instantly, I'm lucid dreaming. The commotion is gone, the demon is gone, my fear of anything is gone...all in a flash.

I continue to run down the hall though, cuz it seemed fun. I reach the end of the hall & come to a stairway. I believe that I was on the fourth floor. I looked at the steps & decided to JUMP all the way down the middle of the stairs. I land like a cat. I open the exit door and run down the street. All this time, all I really can see is down at my feet. For some reason I really can't look up. So I make it two, three blocks & wake up.

Syncratic 09-20-2005 07:06 PM

I'd really like to try these things, but the weekends would have to be the only time.

Kage 09-20-2005 07:13 PM

Txus, that sounds like a lot of fun...I want to lucid dream really badly. The possibilites seem endless.

Txus 09-20-2005 07:19 PM

It's really amazing, like you can see by my usertitle i'm still a n00b at this but it's really great scary sometimes but it's a new experience everytime.

Kage 09-20-2005 07:24 PM

I think the first time I was entering lucidity, I got too excted/scared and woke up before I was fully lucid. I remember just being very afraid as I felt that spiraling feeling (as stated in one of my previous posts) and my body just knocked awake.

Happens all the time with me. It's so frustrating.
