I have a few different takes of the drums by my brother, he hasn't been playing very long and reckons his drumming's pretty ****, it does the job though, so meh..
I could do 'lead' although there's not really any solos in For Whom The Bell Tolls... |
It's a shame i don't have a drum kit at my house. I can play the drums to FWTBT.
and another thing I was thinking we could have a little compitition in this thing maybe one group who does one song and another group that does another and we see who's is better, good idea? or they could do the same song...that way more people can be envolved
dude, I said that yesterday...I said we should have online bands, with each band doing a cover song and with each member of the band doing a instrument and then posting there part to the main guy or something, who would put the song together. Then we make a thread with a poll, 'Which Is The Best Cover Song' and the threadmaker posts each of the finished songs so people can listen to them and vote. Like a online battle of the bands. Lightningmetal666 said audio area already got it covered  Im gonna check it out, but i reckon we do it anyway, but just metallica covers. Because, think about it, the audio area is checked out by people who like different genres of music, so if we posted a metallica cover in there, and there was a punk cover song, and a punk guy comes along, hes gonna vote for the punk song most likely. If we kept this internal then only rock & metal, or even metallica fans would vote, which wouldnt bias the voting, and the TRUE best metallica cover would win because it was voted for by metallica fans. outburst over oh and sorry about the spamming yesterday, my bad :( |
Im going to plan that out now, I think it would be better...It aint stickied in the Audio Arena, so I dont know, maybe it wasnt that popular because of the fact voters came from different genres of music, like i said ^^ ?
|
They already did that about June man. No one really wanted to do it except for the Tool thread.
I'm not saying we should make it a competition, I'm simply saying we should just get some covers out there for one of our favourite bands. |

I would try to help out in this, but my recordings would suck tone-wise cause I'd have to end up using audacity and the line in on my pc.
|

yeah, but then it doesnt matter. If the recording quality aint great, you cant miss out on votes because 'you dont have a recording studio'. If i was too record it would be this basic: guitar > amp > computer microphone (background noise?) |
Even then, don't think anyone would really care.
I think it should just be left to threads to do their own work, if they want to compete, have something to show first... I would really like it if we could get a Metallica cover down first, and then start thinking about a competition. Edit:  To get the drum track down, all we did was hang our computer microphone at the door of the room the drums are in (That was as far as the chord would reach :upset: - Even then, it's still a good 5-6 metres away from the drum kit). The quality is horrible, half way through the microphone moves and the sound gets all scruffled for a few seconds  But that's only for a few more weeks, we'll be moving the drums etc. into a shed soon :p Won't be that much better, but will make a difference. |

I play a bit of everything.. :p
I have the For Whom The Bell Tolls drum track down (Hence how the talk started  ), so I would be prepared to do the full song, I *could* do vocals, I can do the rhythm guitar/lead guitar (Although, as I said, there's really not much lead work for For Whom The Bell Tolls), and if Brittallica wasn't prepared I could try the bass. Granted, I'm only decent at guitar though :p I'd like to see Gocaps taking a position on guitar if possible.. Maybe after For Whom The Bell Tolls, we could try Seek & Destroy? But let's not get ahead of ourselves, like last time. |
we could try Seek & Destroy?
But let's not get ahead of ourselves, like last time.
indeed, seek and destroy was the first song that came to my mind to cover, but as I said I'd have to pay around with my set up so that my recordings don't sound like pure electric noise. |
side note, could someone point me in the right direction/upload the real master of puppets tab? Ive got the power tabs one, which is wrong Ive been told, and I dont trust Guitar Pro for metallica tabs, its all personal opinion
|
I'd be recording same as you (That's how I did the drums)
Just because someone *might* be doing it already is no reason for you not to. We can compare them and decide which is the better version. It would be cool to add in an improvised solo. Edit: I have a Powertab Master of Puppets tab, it seems fine to me, maybe the solos out, but I have no intention of playing the solo so even if it was I wouldn't care. |

I'll have to check with my brother if he wants the recording put online..
It's 12:13am here, so he's alseep (As I will be shortly), so I'll post back here tomorrow with an answer. Until then just play along with Powertab or the actual song. I actually wanted him to do them a tiny bit faster then on the CD but he wouldn't. We both checked it, and it matches up with the CD Recording pretty well, so that's about right :thumb: Edit: My whole family are Metallica fans, even my parents  |

Ok, that will be sweet :thumb:
I'm going to bed now though, so goodnight. My Dad only listens to Metallica's instrumentals though, The Call of Ktulu and Orion, I've tried To Live is To Die, but he's not a fan. |

What up my Metalli-friends.....sounds like the subject is gear and rockin out. So heres my question, what kinda half stack should i get if i really wanna go for that classic Kirk Hammett or Hetfeidl sound? this is gonna be my first half-stack seein as all i have now is an old fender solid-state combo amp(80 watt princeton chorus). and a lil marshall practice amp. For good metal crunch i do have a moded- out strat w/ an EMG-81 and a Line 6 Uber metal, which really kicks ***! so many options...but what i want is that huge fat sound, that still cuts through the mix. Any ideas?
|
Metallica use Mesa Boogies, you could go for that or get a Marshall for the KEA/RTL sound.
Id do rhythm but:
1.) i think someone is already doing it
Yeah, I've got the rhythm recorded today but didn't have enough time to upload it. I should have it uploaded probably sometime tonight. Hey if you want to do a rhythm part as well you can. Just like Chu said, we can vote on who's is better and We'll use it. It won't hurt my feelings any if I don't get picked.......................(well maybe a little :upset: ) |
Sorry for my other topic :-/ but you guessed it...
Can someone direct me to a Nothings Else Matters backing ?? (the two guitars) Thanks |

That sucks. I'd just tell your parents you're gonna record anyway. Give everyone a heavy metal alarm clock metallica style. BTW, I was wondering who would be doing vocals? Also I think that my recording might be off a little but I'll let you guys decide for yourselves. Warning, i had to convert my recording to .wav format. I tried uploading it using rapidshare and after 22 mb. I got pissed and just turned off my computer. I don't know how much hd space you guys have so check before downloading. |
Screw not recording, turn it up to full and play. Even if you can't find your mic.
|
:p I went did that at a mates house a week ago, took the practice pads of the drum kit, 100 watt amp up full...he got a letter off the environmental agency  |
I think chu said he could do them, it's not like it's really important who does them but I just want to make sure that SOMEONE does them.
Besides rhythm, what were you planning to do? Lead? |
Make someone do Death Metal or Opera covers. That'll be somewhat different, an original cover if you will.
|

I was spending the night at my friend Mike's house and this other guy named Garrett was there with his 7 string esp and his 60 watt crate. My friend mike purposely drank the last of my Dr. Pepper and I gave his soda drinking @$$ one hell of a heavy metal alarm clock with none other that the intro to Master of Puppets. Needless to say I got socked in the face. :thumb: |

Anyways, yeah if you want lead or rhythm it matters not to me, but I know that flower dance, chu, father_jack, and britallica want in on this. Chu says he has the drums already. He'll probably end up with vocals as well, but Britallica says he can do them, so maybe he can do them instead. Hey, maybe we can do like the studio recording and have two Rhythm players, Some one can do a short lead, then some one else can have like a second, almost dueling lead? |

Okay so we have Brittallica on bass
I know chu and lightnig metal are talking about rythym and lead....what does gocaps want to do? cause I can do really every thing on here so just let me know the only thing i'm not that good at is vocals and chu's brother is doing the drumtrack...correct? so gocaps you just let us know what you want to do my brother is a sound engineer so I have access to his equipment so if need be you all can play and I can mix send me anything you guys record...Like I said I can do most of this stuff so let me know any positions that need to be filled I'm listening to Damage inc. right now |
If you need any help on drums I can try and go to my friends house and record stuff there. I don't have a kit anymore :(

yeah, do a version :) |
Exactly my point, so let's get the theory out of the way so that we can start writing.
The 'solo' is in C Lydian so I'm sure that someone will have to solo somewhere along the lines of this scale. For a really evil and scary sound, someone should do a solo along the lines of F# Locrian, it is the darkest sound of all of the modes. For the dueling leads at the end, the best thing I can think of is just playing around with pentatonics and see how it goes. |
