anyone have any thought of how metalica could of been if dave mustain was still in the band
Wecome to the forums.
your point has been already discuss, but if metallica have mustaine in this day probably Master of puppets, Fade to black,Crepping Death wouldn't exist or don't would be the same.

None of the songs that were made after dave left would have existed or been the same. I like metallica more because megadeth's vocals are a bit weird imo.
i have a crate GTX30 and a BC Rich NJ Warlock, what is the best way to make that sound?
Sell your crate. :p

Bass 10
Mid 1
Treble 10

That's what I used to do on my peavey rage158 to try and make it sound like metallica. I think that's what you have to do with lowend practice amps.

Apocalyptic Raids 04-10-2005 12:54 AM

To get a Metallica like guitar sound i do

Bass 8
Mid 5
Treble 6

i hate that scooped mids sound.
dyer's eve is phucking awesome song - I didn't go but I know Lars can still double-bass like that no problem

ANY GUITARISTS WANTING TO KNOW HOW TO GET A CLASSIC 'TALLICA SOUND - i may just have the solution!!! hold on...

OK - have a Boss ME-50 and preferably a Line 6 spider set to clean (bass 8, mid 3, treble 9, chan vol 10, drive 4.5 for all tones, if you don't have a spider it will probably work with other amps but you may have to tweak around with the settings...for the distorted parts you might be able to get away with a Boss-MT2 or a DS1.)

ok - here's Kirk's unforgiven 1 clean part (G:-2-4-5-5-5-5-4-0)
On the me-50: tone modify, acoustic (or try the other ones)
a dash of stereo chorus
50% hall reverb
delay set to about 500ms
a bit of compression sustain will not go amiss for the pre-solo riff (don't knock the level up too much or it'll go overdriven)
On the guitar: tone and vol 10, bridge hummer

here's Jaymz' acoustic parts for the black album
as above but use a single coil pickup and maybe a bit more chorus to make it sound smoother

Kirk's lead tone for Live Sh*t solos:
Tone modify: Enhance, Hollow, Tight or S>H, they all work fine
OD/DS: Metal (flick dial to MT2 and hit variation) Drive 4.5, Bottom 8, Tone 6, Level 4
Compressor: Sustain 6, Level 4.5
NS: 1
There is some delay but I'm not sure of the settings...try experimenting on that front
And have your pedal mode to wah in case you need it.

Load/reload tones:
As above but tweak the od/ds settings a bit and have it set to loud

These work for me.

KEEP THE MASTER LEVEL AT 5 OR IT MAY NOT SOUND AS GOOD

I'll try and update soon - try these and tell me if they work for you :thumb:

MoP/...AJFA sound
try turning your distortion to muff, and messing around with the controls.
for those who wanna sound like metallica:
i found it, this is the metallica tunes courtesy of metalcritter666. :thumb:
rip cliff

so yea that metallica thing was really interesting. i heard james had a pyro accident but i didn't know he went up in flames
what did you think happened?

Well on my main amplifier I have this for Metallica:

gain: 7
bass 7
mid 3.5
Treble 6

It's different for different amps.

True

metalcritter666 04-10-2005 07:19 AM
for cliffs bass tone (think anaesthesia) heres a tip. if you have a boss me-50 turn the mod controls to 'harmonist' push the rate/key to anything really that one doesnt matter, and put the other two dials to max. this will give you a -1 octave sound instead of having to use the pedal, you can use that for wah instead now. turn your od/dist to 'muff' at with the drive about 6.5 and the bottom and tone to 9. you might wanna put some reverb or whatever for ambience.
for JASONS bass tone for his solos (think seattle, live sh!t), keep the same mod settings but put your od/dist to 'loud', and use the resonance effect for that cool sound. happy playing :thumb:

jaymz's guitar tone from kill 'em all set it to muff through a MARSHALL 100w amp. i dunno what kind he used so check encycmet or metallicaworld.
setting the delay to 100 - 500 (time 4) sounds cool too.

and SCOOPED MIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i've got more.

before i was using effects pedals i just used to put it to
drive: 10
bass: 10
mid: 0
treble: 10

Yes, i do that one my electric guitar, and put it to treble on the guitar also it sounds like a bass guitar.. Its pretty cool accually.. As i do not have a bass however i have done that method to fill in for bass players before now and no-one seems to have noticed the difference, its better with a bass amp though, a guitar amp cannot seem to hold the vibrations as well lol

Sandtrap 04-10-2005 08:50 AM

I think if you wanna get a really specific metallica sound you need to use a marshall...after all those are the amps they played.

no they don't. they used marshalls till the mid eighties, when they switched to mesa boogies.

Sandtrap 04-10-2005 09:02 AM

DisposableHeroes 04-10-2005 09:02 AM

snow day 04-10-2005 09:52 AM

anyone ever grow up lisening to metallica and learnt the guitar as metallica as like thier inspiration i did and i got totally pissed once when someone asked me to do a decent solo that didnt sound like a kirk re make......the best i came up with was the cheesy guitar interludes in smooth by santana lol

i ended up straying from metallicas music and recently i tried to rip the **** out of metallica on this very forum .......and only in the past few days i have........seen the light...... the truth is i actually like metallica

i just started listening to some classiscs and it rekindled my love over all things metallica .....in my blind search of more awe inspiring guitar solos i misjudged metallica and am here to apologize......

anyway in the end i ended up listening to the extreme shredding of slayer and the ....something.....of malmstein (i hope thats his name i cant remember)

i wos just wondering if any body has had the same experience as i have

PS: sorry for my major flaming of some a few days ago the stuff i said wos uncalled for

DisposableHeroes 04-10-2005 09:53 AM

Every single song? They'd be dead after a while, and so would i :p
