That's what I love about Clapton and Gilmour. Each note is great.

Jimi and Jimmy are pretty much exact opposties. They are sloppy but still awesome. |
I'm actually watching the Zeppelin DVD right now (disc 1). Page never was the cleanest guitarist in the world, but their songs sure rock. I want to play his Les Paul, I tried out an $8500 (cad) Les Paul not too long ago...I wasn't very impressed with it. But it mighta just been the strings (they were really old)

:drools: I know what you mean. |
I always try to sound like Gilmour when I play. He always plays the coolest solos consistently...you never hear a bad solo from him. And they don't have to be extremely fast or anything either, just alot of emotion. You never hear Gilmour trying to play a Heartbreaker type solo or anything like that (fast and sloppy).
You can't judge emotion. I can be playing the Comfortably Numb solo and be falling asleep, or I could be rockin out to a Zeppelin solo. Any solo can have emotion. |

Oh I didn't know that  Are there any Cream DVDs around? I've seen a lot of Clapton ones, but I haven't seen any ones with him in Cream. |
Strange Brew.

I have one called Strange Brew, but its not the greatest. The music rules live, but the camera's are usually focused on their faces, so you can't see what he's playing.

Oh ok. I've never seen that DVD before. I hate when it just focuses on faces...I like when the camera is further back so you can see them all playing.
edit- My moms trying to talk on the phone, and I have the Zep DVD cranked loud right now, she's yelling at me now because apparently Dazed and Confused is "just noise" Although some parts are just noise :upset: |
dont listen to much instruemental stuff do you? theres alot of instrumental albums better than surfing with the alien. like jeff beck's for example. blow by blow, wired, you had it coming, who else!, jeff, all those are awesome instrumental albums. liquid tension experiments stuff is good too. theres more too
No I listen to the Mahavishnu Orchestra all the time. I didn't say he was the best, I just feel Satriani is better then hair metal |
Dazed and Confused was the first Zep song I learned :nostalgia:
|
Alright so the other day me and all my friends were talking about music. And a friend of mine (who is more into metal) said "Led Zeppelin is so boring live, all they do is stand there."
How do you guys feel about statements like that? Someone saying a band you like is boring just because they don't jump around or do gimmicks? It kind of angers me, but it's nothing worth arguing about. I just replied to him "would you rather them put down their instruments and tap dance for you?" I would rather listen to/watch a band that focuses on the music and doesn't just jump around, but bands that can do both are exciting too (The Who for one). |
Wait, you mean there's more to live shows than jumping around?

Leonard Cohen - Songs of |
It's just called Songs Of? That's pretty clever. I highlighted what you said, expecting there to be more in an unnoticable font.
edit- I feel so naked without stars. Back to zero rep. |
Oh snap, the rep's gone.
All my hard repping... :( Anyway, I'm ADDICTED right now to Across the Universe. I LOVE this song. |

What do you guys think of the version of Across the Universe from Let It Be Naked? I don't like it as much, it's seems a little too fast...and too bare. That's an amazing song though, I've always wanted to learn more than the intro, so maybe I could perform it for someone...but I haven't gotten around to do it.

Anyone know any good jamming songs for two acoustic guitars that are easy and just fun to play and sing along to?

You need to learn some bluegrass. If you want rock (or relating genres), you could play some Dylan, Grateful Dead, Neil Young, Beatles. As for songs...Wish You Were Here is pretty fun to play with someone else on acoustic. Although it usually sounds really good if someones playing an electric for most of the bands I mentioned. |
hmmm Beatles would be fun. I'll check any specific song suggestions?
|
hmmm Beatles would be fun. I'll check any specific song suggestions?
Me and my friends always perform Let It Be with two acoustics. I usually choose a cool sounding pattern to fingerpick, and he strums chords. Then someone can take the solo. It's not a hard song at all, and it sounds cool. edit- a lot of acoustic songs sound cool with one guitar fingerpicking and another playing chords. Or one just plays melody lines. A lot of Bob Dylan works for that. |
Does one of you play the piano part on guitar or something?
|
Does one of you play the piano part on guitar or something?
Well we both just use the chords the piano is playing. It sounds good. The piano isn't doing anything that a guitar can't do, and with two guitars you can make it sound even better. Just mess around with it, it doesn't have to sound exact. edit- The Weight, by The Band is another fun one to play that isn't too hard. You could probably play and sing it, you could decide what you want the two guitars to be doing (both strumming, or one playing melody/lead) |
Cool, I'm looking up some tabs right now. Thanks..
If you have any other suggestions I'm open for them |
Actually wait.....you have to learn Paint It Black by the Rolling Stones. One guitar strums the chords (really easy chords), and one plays the lead/sitar part. It sounds awesome and is so fun to play. Nothing too difficult either so someone could sing without any trouble. I taught it to a bunch of my students the other night.

That sounds good. I don't have an MP3 of it or any sound file. Care to send it if it isn't such a hassle?
|
How here has heard Hendrix's Winterland preformance. The intro to Hey Joe is amazing.

It wouldn't be a hassle to send, but I might not have it on my computer. I will check. I've never seen that Hendrix performance. |
I haven't heard it, but I love Hey Joe. (was playing it earlier)

I was playing it yesterday. I have a Hendrix Greatest Hits Cd and I tried going through and playing all the songs. All Along The Watchtower and Little Wing proved to difficult to learn on the spot though. I really wanna learn Little Wing but I get so lazy once I start learning it I just give up. |

I'd like to learn All Along The Watchtower, but I can't find a decent tab and I always give up. |

Ya I love playing The Wind Cries Mary. I usually can't be bothered to learn a solo, I just improvise and I can usually make it sound pretty close just by matching up certain notes. Purple Haze is the only Hendrix solo I've ever actually bothered learning, it wasn't too hard anyways and I was playing it for a show.
And I can send you that song Thunderstruck (or however you spell your name). What's your AIM? |

The Hendrix song I enjoy playing the most on the drums is Fire. BUt I like jamming with any of his songs, Mitch Mitchell is such a great drummer.

Every body jus listen man, GNR are the greatest rockers of all time. the beatles are cool and so are the who but GNR jus rock. Axl despite being a dickhead is blatently the greatest frontman of all time. Slash's solos cant be beaten and i mean c'mon Duff McKagan, hes amazing.
GNR Rule, and in my eyes they founded rock in the 80's. :thumb: |
Duff is maybe a little better than mediocre, and many can out play Slash. As far as Axl...ewww.
