I have Iron Maiden, The Number Of The Beast, and A Matter of Life And Death.

AMOLAD is their best imo.

Any other album reccomendations?

I've heard Powerslave was good.

chorbalan 09-07-2006 04:04 PM

Powerslave is considered one of their best ^^
Finally got a copy yesterday, and it is amazingly good. The only bad part is I haven't heard all the songs yet. Everytime I try to sit down and listen to music something comes up, so I am hoping no one comes wanting something from me right now because i will cut them. The Pilgrim is a little boring at start but it becomes pretty catchy and picks up speed. I love every single song I've heard so far with no exceptions.

pate 09-07-2006 04:06 PM

Powerslave is highly overrated. Luc, you need to get Seventh Son.

TojesDolan 09-07-2006 04:11 PM

Get Killers And Piece of Mind.

That should help, variety-wise.

And maybe Iron Maiden for culture references.

hellrider 09-07-2006 04:12 PM

i agree with you pate i thought powerslave was overatted any who

now that ive listend to amolad its starting to grow on me even thought the length its a little annoying

TojesDolan 09-07-2006 04:14 PM

The thing about Powerslave is that it's a very, very balanced album.

pate 09-07-2006 04:17 PM

Balanced as in half great, half crappy?

I already have Iron Maiden.

I didn't care to much for Piece of Mind though. Except for The Trooper, I LOVE that song.

132WalrusesInMexico 09-07-2006 05:09 PM

The Trooper is an awesome song, but my favorite song from Piece Of Mind is Where Eagles Dare. That is such an amazing song.

Lord Abortion 09-07-2006 05:10 PM

Still life>>>all.

True, but we're talking about Iron Maiden not Opeth.

What?

It's a track on Piece of Mind. And a great one as well.

Ohhhh. My bad.

Hot Darn! 09-07-2006 05:58 PM

Peice of Mind is probably my least listened to album.
I think Somewhere in Time is really underrated. I love that album.

I haven't gotten the new album yet, can't wait to get it though.

Quiksilver26 09-07-2006 06:42 PM

Die With Your Boots on. all you need from Piece of Mind :p I just love that song a lot.

Anyway my actual copy of AMOLAD should be arriving tomorrow, so i'm excited for that :D

Surtr 09-07-2006 07:34 PM

Piece of Mind is an insane album. And your right, Somewhere In Time is awesome too. Those are two of my favorite albums probably.

Luc2142 09-07-2006 07:39 PM

Am I the only one who doesn't care for Piece of Mind that much?

Surtr 09-07-2006 07:46 PM
Am I the only one who doesn't care for Piece of Mind that much?
Yes. :p

Lord Abortion 09-07-2006 07:46 PM

Yes, I believe so, it's my favourite Maiden album.

Luc2142 09-07-2006 07:50 PM

Of course, as with alot of music I got when I first got into metal, I wasn't that into Maiden. Now, I love them, so I think I'll check it out again.

The exact same thing happened with Cannibal Corpse, Emperor, Amon Amarth, and some others.

I didn't like them when I was a metal virgin, now that I'm seasoned I love those bands. Well, I don't love CC, but I don't hate them like I used to and I enjoy them.

the_uber_penguin 09-07-2006 08:13 PM

It's really wierd for me: as much as Iron Maiden are easily my favourite band (and have been for the past 4 years or so) I'm not really a metal-head. I listen to the occasional bit of SOAD or Metallica but I tend to find that all metal bands since 1990 aren't worth the CD they're recorded on.

I guess the pattern figures: Greenday were my favourite band for a long time (and still are my second favourite) but I'm not really that much into other punk/pop-punk...

Third favourite band is Eminem...not really into any other rap...

You see the pattern?
I don't know anyone else who's like that.

Kelly Clarkson and Evanescence are really the non-metal stuff I listen to.
Mostly death lately too.
...KElly <3

anyway, A Matter of Life and Death is the best Maiden album to date. "These Colors Don't Run" is amazzzzzzing.

the melodic intro and outro...:)

Great song, even better album. :)

I wouldnt say that, powerslave is a great album from start to finish. There is absoltely no filler (unless you count los'fer words filler). Its a great album for anyone who hasnt listened to that much maiden. Id reccomend it more the SSoaSS for people who are new to the irons.

rik 09-08-2006 07:33 AM

I personally find 'These colours don't run' to be one of the worst on the album, though it's still good.

I'm finding myself absolutely loving 'Different World' which is weird as I initially found it pretty mediocre.

crag 09-08-2006 07:43 AM

I would agree that Powerslave has no filler tracks but i still find it to be highly overrated for some reason.

After nearly 2 weeks of listening to AMOLAD i still can't put it down, it is really the only thing i want to listen to now. I'm very tempted to say it is my favourite album.

Apocalyptic Raids 09-08-2006 07:49 AM

I find Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son to be stronger overall than Powerslave. Sure, it doesn't have any tracks quite as great as Aces High or Rime Of The Ancient Mariner, but it's far more consistent in my eyes.

PAJJ 09-08-2006 08:01 AM

i think SSoaSS > Powerslave
i'd say infinate dreams, and the clairvoyant are just as strong as the best songs on PS, and the song quality is consistantly better.

jversluis88 09-08-2006 08:09 AM

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son is a very underrated and not widely recognized album of Maiden's. I'd say it's one of their best along with Piece of Mind, as well as The Number of the Beast.

As far as their new stuff goes, Blaze Bayley was a disgrace to the band. Bottom line is, I don't think Maiden will ever be able to put out as powerful an album as they have in the past, they're getting old, and while any new material will most definitely be appealing to us, the Maiden fans, they're not likely to recruit new fans with new releases.
