o come on man, you didn't even give me a chance to answer. I like a few of their songs.

xxxRoCkJuNkiExxx 03-03-2005 08:18 PM

I haven't heard much Dire Straits. My dad likes them so maybe he's got some of their stuff.

I think I have 9's and 12's.

Badmoon 03-03-2005 08:53 PM
I don't like the black and white strat.

It's too generic for me.

But, there's this one color on strats that I absolutly love.

I'll find a pic hang on.

Edit: http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0101400752

But a different color fretboard.
No, that fretboard looks great on that guitar. :)

Mark Knopfler is one of the badarsest (wtf?) guitarists ever.

Grateful Dead Recommendation of the Week
------------------------------------------
Grateful Dead - He's Gone

The song is about Mickey Hart's father, Lenny Hart. Who was the groups financial manager (And also one of the top competiton drummers during his time) during the late 60's and early seventies. In time, the Dead grew comfortable with their manager. Ironically, Lenny Hart then ran off with a large portion of their money. Which ultimatley put Mickey in a terrible depression, which is why he left the Grateful Dead for a few years. The group states that they in no way blamed Mickey for his father's actions, by the way.

It gives off to famous Dead lines.

"Steal your face right off your head" and "Nothing left to do but smile, smile smile".

The metaphors and such are really interesting. You guys should check it out. It is only played live, also.

BlackDeathMetalJazz or really ANYTHING else please- 03-03-2005 09:38 PM

Badmoon 03-03-2005 09:40 PM

They're okay. I don't see what is so special about them, like The Zombies.

Johnny B. Good 03-03-2005 09:43 PM

I like them, they kind of a Doorish sound

PinkFreud 03-03-2005 09:46 PM
My AIM is rockshowguy56. Thanks :thumb:

I guess the amp is 15 Watts. And I didn't really try out many different strats. I knew I wanted the American, because I was looking for a quality better than the Standard, but I didn't want to pay more than the price of the American. So basically I went with that. I was originally going for an Olympic White strat, but this one I bought was used, and sunburst is very cool too. So I took it.

I mean check this out:

That's kind of liking saying Barry Manilow has a KILLER!!! voice. It may be good and he may be talented, but there isn't anything really  about.

Yea I like Robin Trower. Whenever I bring him up, people seem to ignore me. And I like the Zombies' vocals too.

Would Joe Satriani be thought of as hair metal. I mean hes so good I don't want to put him under that, but is he?
I hope that was a joke...
Uh no, I mean you may not like him but he is an amazing guitar player, and few people can pull off an all instrumental album as well as he did with Surfing With the Alein.

Riva 03-04-2005 02:28 AM

I just heard my first Tom Waits song, and I must say I was impressed. What classification do you guys put him under? I think of him as blues rock, similar to JJ Cale, but I could be wrong.

Leper 03-04-2005 02:36 AM

I have a question for a fan of Supertramp. I heard a song of theirs on the radio today and some of the lyrics were "that's my girlfriend..not much of a girlfriend.." or something like that. Anyone know the name of it?

That would be Breakfast In America. I love Supertramp, very unique band.

Riva 03-04-2005 02:41 AM

Sounds like Breakfast In America...

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

Blues Rock would really not be fitting, but no genre really would fit him. Some possibilities could be Jazz-Rock and early Alternative. Alternative (Early or not) would be the best, I believe.

:)

FrailRose 03-04-2005 08:41 AM

yeah classic rock is getting quite popular.i like it....and yeah there are some posers out there...a lot

thickasabrick 03-04-2005 03:10 PM

Has anyone here heard the version of "I Shall Be Released" With Dylan, The Band, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell? I downloaded it, it's pretty good. It sounds like a lot of people are singing, and they actually all managed to stay in time with each other.

Its probably the version for The Last Waltz, where everybody in the movie is singing. Its very cool.

And I love Jeff Beck's instrumental albums. Like I mean LOVE. He rules.

Good song, the Last Waltz DVD is awesome, pick it up if you haven't seen it.

thickasabrick 03-04-2005 04:30 PM

I've never seen the entire DVD for The Last Waltz..I didn't realize it was on there. That's a cool movie though.

Broken Arrow 03-04-2005 04:34 PM

On the Beach is such a wicked album......discuss.

thickasabrick 03-04-2005 04:38 PM

Walk On is an amazing song, that's from On The Beach right?

It is a bluesier album and it really works for Neil.

Does anyone else love the Gilmour solo in SOYCD(6-9) from about 2:30 to 5:00?
Does anyone else love the Gilmour solo in SOYCD(6-9) from about 2:30 to 5:00?
That's one of the best solos ever. That whole song is amazing.
That's one of the best solos ever. That whole song is amazing.
Yea, after the solo, there's the lyrics, then the cool funky part.

The solo is pure ownage though. If I played guitar Gilmour would be the reason I picked it up.

thickasabrick 03-04-2005 05:07 PM

I always try to sound like Gilmour when I play. He always plays the coolest solos consistently...you never hear a bad solo from him. And they don't have to be extremely fast or anything either, just alot of emotion. You never hear Gilmour trying to play a Heartbreaker type solo or anything like that (fast and sloppy).
