Bored out of my everlovin' mind. I needed a break from reading "Marvel: 1602" and decided to come online for a bit (working this weekend; speaking of which, its time for me to do my hourly check on the servers... be back in a second).

Huh, that's cool. Where do you work, anyway? Are you an sys admin somewhere?

Foxfire 11-06-2004 02:02 PM

I have decided on my dream bass (now I'm saving the 1300 USD i need for it)

4-string
34" scale
Single cut body; Walnut core, spalted maple top and back
Hipshot Ultralite tuners
GraphTech nut
3 piece neck - wenge/purpleheart/wenge
Dual carbon fiber truss rods
Purpleheart fretboard; no inlays on the front of the fretboard, only on the sides
26 stainless steel frets
Mother of Pearl block inlay between first pickup and fretboard for scratch and dent protection
Two dual-coil Bartolinis
Aguilar OBP-3 Preamp wired Treble/Low-Mid*Hi-Mid (concentric)/Bass/Concentric Volume/volume, and two series/parallel switches
ABM Piezo bridge

1300 USD + shipping and handling

Al-right.

Tryxx 11-06-2004 02:04 PM

Fancy, where'd you get that estimate?

*Has a dream 8 string*

Foxfire 11-06-2004 02:04 PM

The luthier who's going to make it for me.

e p 11-06-2004 02:07 PM

Who's the luthier?

Foxfire 11-06-2004 02:09 PM

Dave Pushic; people are all suspicious because of his low estimates, but I've read a ton of the reviews on TalkBass, and only 2 people have said bad things about him.

Foxfire 11-06-2004 02:10 PM

And screw a bass line for the bass comp. I'm so sick of that song, GAH.

e p 11-06-2004 02:16 PM

Thats that dpcustom site isnt it?

If I remember correctly it had those beautiful cocobolo ones.

Nice.
So I met a strange drunkard today... I was in Pontypridd, in a pawn shop trying out an acoustic bass (Starfire, £110, not the highest quality in the world but not bad for the price) and this guy staggers in. He stares at me for about a minute while I play Southbound Pachyderm, then he says "woah, keep it up, you'll make a lot of money..." then he mumbles something inchoherent about enjoyment factors, before pointing out that the D string was slightly sharp.

He was right, too.
I have a story kind of like that, at least along the lines of somebody telling me to keep on playing and I'll go far or something like that.

Here goes:

After my first practice with my first band about 2 weeks ago, I was on the way back. I attend college in New York City, and the band is on Staten Island, one of the 5 boroughs of the city, and the easiest way for me to get ther from manhattan is to take a ferry.

So, on the way back when I was waiting in the ferry terminal for the ferry to go back to Manhattan, this guy notices my bass case and starts asking me stuff like how long have I been playing. I told him 2 and a half years and told him I was on my way back to Manahattan after a practice with a band. The he tells me he was the original rhythm guitarist for the band Biohazard. I thought that was cool, he told me he left the band because of the lead guitarist at that time was causing trouble with the band, and he didn't want to deal with it anymore. He the proceded to tell me to keep on playing and original stuff (like my band) has the potential to go far. He also warned me about band managers and how they try to screw over the band. I took all that advice and said good bye and nice to talk and that stuff.

In exchange for what?

Tryxx 11-06-2004 02:43 PM

Luke, do you hold a bass comp record?

Huh. I stinkin' wish. *watches MCSE certification mold over from misuse*

No, I currently have two jobs- during the week, I work at the community college as the computer lab assistant, which is, in essence, a glorified babysitter.

Every other weekend or so I work at the Information Services Help Desk at the hospital, which is, in essence, another glorified babysitter. (This one is usually really quiet, and I'm here all alone- sometimes I drag my bass in and play sans amp, since I usually work 630a-3p and just about everything is done for the day by 930a. other times I bring a book, or, like today, my co-worker has something interesting and leaves it for me to read- THANK YOU MARC!)
In exchange for what?
nothing, we just give him the money and he goes into the store and buys it for us.
because we're generous people we give him a few dollars, but he never asks for anything in return.

:amaze: you're MCSE, eh? Cool.

I've got my A+, Net+ and I've taken an iNet+ course, but it's a joke.

Sounds like the job that I have at the computer help desk at my university, but you'd probably be my boss, it seems. :)
