Mineral has some alright jamz but I wouldnt say that I especially like them or anything.

Boy's Life
Christie Front Drive

I don't know.

christsimpson 12-08-2008 04:40 AM

Cerulean, Christie Front Drive, Bells on Trike, Braid, The Promise Ring, and maybe The Gloria Record and Zookeeper.

team_racket 12-08-2008 07:27 AM

^^ On top of cobs reccomendations you should be set for a while.

I always found Mineral extremely overrated. Different style, but Codeine always appealed to me way more in regards to slow stuff.

Codeine is good though nothing like Mineral. Chris Simpson's lyrics and voice > all else. also Mineral's climaxes are perfect.

RetiredAt21 12-08-2008 01:09 PM

What's a band that sounds like Driftwood?

cobert 12-08-2008 02:14 PM
Cerulean, Christie Front Drive, Bells on Trike, Braid, The Promise Ring, and maybe The Gloria Record and Zookeeper.
I feel like some of these bands don't sound like Mineral though. Yes, they are considered the same style of music, but The Promise Ring and Braid just don't sound like Mineral.

Bells on Trike + The Gloria Record do though.

RetiredAt21 12-08-2008 02:15 PM

I haven't listened to the Promise Ring in years.

their music doesn't have the same sound as Mineral but it has a similar feel to it. but really check out Cerulean. they sound a lot like Mineral.

cobert 12-08-2008 04:44 PM

FACT: I love The Promise Ring.

cobert 12-08-2008 04:44 PM

FAT: Ash.

Gnarmageddon 12-08-2008 04:56 PM

he's lost a lot of weight

RetiredAt21 12-08-2008 07:49 PM

I didn't even know Ash is still alive. I assumed he was dead. Not sure why.

santi3hg 12-08-2008 10:17 PM

Thats kind of sad Justin lol.

santi3hg 12-08-2008 10:18 PM

Wait but I think Scott said the same of you or was that Jared?

Iluvatar 12-08-2008 10:28 PM

cbmartinez 12-08-2008 10:35 PM

Gnarmageddon 12-08-2008 11:34 PM

christsimpson 12-09-2008 01:49 AM

Smiths compilation

whiteminority 12-09-2008 01:54 AM

Fire Team Charlie is good ****.

Matt? 12-09-2008 05:15 AM

um mineral sounds just like sunny day real estate ben fyi

christsimpson 12-09-2008 05:37 AM

lol. I just wrote a review of EndSerenading here on sputnik arguing for why they do NOT sound like sdre.

Matt? 12-09-2008 06:03 AM

mineral is like sdre with out of tune singing!

christsimpson 12-09-2008 06:30 AM

nah man. now I'm not gonna quote myself like a douche or anything, but to repeat some of what I said in my review,

SDRE owe a great deal to what was called "grunge" by the media. they have heavy chord progressions. their guitarists rely a lot on riffs, whereas Mineral's guitarists are more into that twinkly sensitive stuff. also the lyrics and vocals are nothing alike.

Matt? 12-09-2008 06:35 AM

idk they definitely aren't the same but i'd totally call mineral closest to sdre. some mineral riffs sound so much like sunny day. what you say is true though they are more twinkly. but like if you took sdre, stripped down the production a ton, made it a little sloppier, had out of tune vocals...

**** would just be mineral i think...

i haven't listened to either in a while though so i am just basing this off of ideas i harbor from like months and months ago... or something

cbmartinez 12-09-2008 07:14 AM

never could get into any of those midwest bands, unless the appleseed cast counts but I prefer their later material that doesn't resemble midwest stuff as much

christsimpson 12-09-2008 07:31 AM

@matt honestly I find SDRE to be a lot more radio friendly (verse/chorus/verse) in their structure, whilst Mineral are more progressive and climax-focused. I don't hear two awfully similar bands. but I guess I understand what you're aiming at.

Matt? 12-09-2008 07:46 AM

i get that... sdre is WAY more radio friendly. probably why i like them more at this point... although i would've adamantly opposed that a year ago.

the choruses are still there for mineral. all the best mineral songs have awesome catchy verse/chorus/verse structure.

i'd say mineral is like for sure influenced by sunny day, and i think they sound really similar but i agree, there are still things that set them apart for sure.

christsimpson 12-09-2008 07:51 AM

yeah well I guess we can appreciate both bands for what they are. personally I'm for Mineral. Unfinished is too good.

Matt? 12-09-2008 07:56 AM

i feel like i love a lot of songs by both but they both have songs that i think suck so much.
Have you heard the Troy Tate sessions?
no, i read about them though in the songs that saved your life but I've never been able to find them, do you have them?

RetiredAt21 12-09-2008 11:46 AM

Evergreen is so good.
