New avatar. Go me.
It (Electric Warrior)'s a terrific album...more people should listen to it and talk about it. |
they should have come up with a new name, cause without freddy there is no queen. ill still try and get tickets though, cause john deacon and brian may kick ***.
deacons not touring with them though. and electric warrior IS an excellent album. very odd but its good. and im quite sure that clapton did the solo for while my guitar gently weeps. it has his tone all over it. |

I know this discussions probably well and truly past this kind of stuff since i didn't read the whole way through. But nonetheless being one of these 17 year old classic rock fans (well among other things too) I think the reason it's making a revival now is because people who were teenagers in the time of led zeppelin, pink floyd, etc. are now parents. I mean that's how I got in to all of it, now Pink Floyd and Dire Straits are two of my favourite bands.
|
great Crimson albums:
Beat
I think that's the first time I've seen someone (other than me) mention Beat as a good King Crimson album. Most people seem to dislike it. But then, I've not often been in here before. Is it generally liked? |

At least you like Dire Straits, which is a plus. They're an alright band. I like Down on the Waterline and Sultans of Swing. |
Ah yes, Dire Straits. My dad got me into them and I love them. Knoffler is a machine on the axe. Goota go with Sultans as my favorite song. Almost got to see them live years back.
No way!
1. Freddie Mercury 2. Aretha Franklin 3. Paul Rodgers Best singers of the 70's.
i didn't mean best singers...i meant who could do a half decent job singing Freddy Mercury songs. Of course Aretha Franklin can sing way better, but can you imagine her singing We Will Rock You? or Sheer Heart Attack? singing isn't all about the best voice, personality and attitude is involved as well, and Aretha doesn't really have the same persona that is required to play the role of Freddy Mercury. (although they are almost on the same level of femininity) /cheap shot. |

Brothers in Arms is a great album. |
I haven't really got into King Crimson's other stuff, but I'll check those albums out, I was completely blown away upon the first time hearing the album especially 21st century Schizoid Man and the title track, I haven't got that feeling for an album since DSOTM and Trout mask replica.
I am far from impressed about this "Queen" re-union, that I think is definitely taking place now. They've got the singer from Free on vocals, and I think that John Deacon isn't doing the shows either...I love Queen, but without Freddie Mercury, I don't think it is Queen, period. As you say, basically no-one can sing Queen songs like Mercury, and in terms of stage personality, few people compare, as well.
Paul Rodgers, also of Bad Company. |
They had the singer from Free when they played at the UK music hall of fame thing, but that was probably just a one off.
|
i think Freddy Mercury probably had the best singing voice in rock music ever. plus he sang more than rock, since rock didn't show off his talent quite as much.
Last night i was renting a movie, and i noticed a movie called Grateful Dawg.. has anyone seen it? i read the back and it sounded like a documentary type thing with Jerry Garcia and David Grisman. I thought it was interesting because it was in the "Drama" section, not the "music, biography, documentary" or other such categories. |

On the Beach-Alot of of blues/rock and folk/rock After the Goldrush-Folk/Rock, Piano Harmonica stuff, also plain rock Harvest Moon-Mostly a folk album. Anyways, I was watching CBC and the Canada for Aisa thingy is on and they had Rush playing "Closer to the Heart" with Bubbles(from Trailer Park boys) and the Guy from the Barenaked Ladies and it was sweet. Neil Peart-Machine Now the Tragically Hip are on. Oscar Peterson played too he was amazing as always.:) |
Neil Peart + some barenaked ladies = good?

Why can't America have any cool benefit concerts? Like Canada had that SARS thing with Rush too, but I guess Americans just don't care enough.
|
Because we don't have SARS.
