Yeah, I'm a very exciting person. :rolleyes: My nights are usually spent doing crazy **** like studying and reading. In fact, one time, I read so much I spent the rest of the night puking. I swore I would never read again, but damn, I just can't stop. I might be an addict. I might check myself in to rehab, I've got problems. I've tried getting drunk, but it's so boring. I find myself wishing I was in my room, partying with Telemachus.

I'm glad somebody finds my life funny. I always feel awkward in my classes when people start talking about partying. I have to work my *** off to keep from saying, "And you wonder why all of your tests are hard. :rolleyes:" I don't really have the time or the money to screw around. I started the semester with like $300 in my checking account, and now have just shy of $100. And I had to buy books with some of that. :upset: But I might be getting a job in the lab that pays $10/hr. :glad: That probably won't help me get drunk though. I just don't get it. I'm weird.

I work my arse off for the marks that I get. People are always saying "this stuff is so hard", i say to them "that is because you party all the time and you don't do your work". Then I show them the 102% that I just got on my geography assignment.

I'd actually like to. How much time would I have to devote to it, and how well would I be able to comprehend what I read? I already read at a pretty good clip, but I do lots of skimming. It's Homer, though, so it's okay. I skip through some of the pointless parts.

It is kinda nice to have something to show for all the work you do. We had an essay in english on the Iliad. I usually do these types of things at the last minute, but I got motivated and wrote it over the course of a week. I think it came out well. It went over the required length by 1200 words. Oops. :lol:

Well the easiest way to start is by understanding how humans read (the english language at least). When we read we typically read a word 2-4 times, but we don't realize this. You only have to read a word once to understand it. So you start my reading only once, the easiest way to do that is by reading with your finger. Move your finger under what you are reading ad move it as fast as your eyes can keep up. After awhile you wont need your finger, you will have retrained yourself to only read the word once. That you can pick up in about 10 minutes and will cut your reading time in half AT LEAST!!! Eventually you will be able to read stuff just by looking at it, but I don't know how to do that yet.

I have maximum lengths right now, it sucks because they are so short. I have some short assignments to do and they are like 500 words. That is way too short.

The joys of being given a set goal and a set timeframe. Means I can work when I want and how I want, provided I get the job done.


There is a pretty big thing that I should be doing, but that can be done later when this place dies down.

It is a pretty good job.

I am just getting a little peeved at the moment becasue people are dumping their work onto me, which strictly speaking is not in my job description.

I am a bit of a generalist, but it still urks me when people think, "Damn, I have this work to do but don't really want to. Hang on, lets see if I can offload it onto somebody else".

What a nice bass, such a big sound. Pitty about the price tage though.

Yeah they are nice basses, I tried one the Warwick LTD bleached blondes it was good but not good enough for me to justify the price tag.

The thing is, I can afford the pricetag, and that sort of bass is a collectors item.

I just feel that I would not be able to do it justice at this point.


Plus the fact that I am doing a build and if it goes well, I think I might just wind up making the basses I want rather than forking out big cash for them.

Well I have pretty much everything I need already, so no outlay there.


Plus, I would rather drop money on tools that I can use for other projects than a huge wad of cash on something that in actual fact is grossly over priced.


I have seen just in the purchasing of timber for this project of mine that the actual raw materials use maybe constitute a 20th of the actual cost at the end of the day.

Of course there is the skill involved in taking those raw materials and turning out the finished product and it is a business at the end of the day, but dropping US$3000 - US$5000 on a bass just does not seem worth it.

How much does a good bandsaw cost these days? It would be north of $1000USD what are you using?

Yes you can drop US$1000 on a very nice bad saw, but thats just not neccessary. I would only do that if I was building full time and needed something to match that.


At the moment this is what I am using:

- Radial Arm Saw
- Table Saw
- Belt Sander
- Orbital Sander
- Jigsaw
- Router
- Thicknesser/Planner


The trickis to invest the money on those tools which you know you will really need to perform.


For basic body cutting, I am just using a little jigsaw, sure a bad saw would make life easier and allow me to do it in less time, but as said, I am not running a production line, and am just building for myself at this point.

In short, I have no problem rough cutting with a jigsaw and it taking a while then sanding it down with a belt and orbital sander, and then sanding further by hand. Yes it is going to be a slow process, but the fun is in the build as well as the finished result.


EDIT:

You have to remeber to use what is appropriate for you. Its no good going out there and buying the biggest and best when all you need is an intermediate tool.

The whole thing behind power tools is to make your life easier and increase one accuracy.

You could take once large chunk of wood and care it down into the shape of a bass by hand, but that would take month, even years.

I guess as long as your having a good time with it doesn't even matter.
