I also disagree. As much as I love their old stuff, listening to Piper too much makes my head hurt, whereas Dark Side of the Moon is like vicodin. It's like the whole band gave so much to it equally(as far as I know); it feels balanced. Also, it's very dark and mysterious, especially with all the creepy whispering.

Speaking of earlier Pink Floyd, from what I understand Meddle is the turning point in musical direction for the band, but was the earlier stuff with gilmour like the Syd Barret stuff or another thing altogether?

It was very different, although still very psychedelic. None of the albums in that era are as good as Piper, but they are very experimental and interesting.

me likes saucerful of secrets the best of that era

ewwwww such a boring album. Their Soundtrack for More is probably the best of that era for me.

more is like one of four pf albums i dont have. the only worth while track i remember from more is the nile song

I'm not a huge fan of More. My favorite from that era is Obscured By Clouds. Actually, that's after Meddle so I guess that doesn't work. Saucerful then.

The only More song I ever listen to is "Cirrus Minor". Pretty cool one.

haven't heard More, but it's on my list. I like Meddle and Sauceful about the same.

Ah, ok. I am interested in it, mostly because it's right in between [I]Meddle[/I] and [I]Dark Side of The Moon[/I], which make up my top 3 Floyd albums along with [I]Wish You Were Here[/I] (original, I know :p).

OBC is pretty sweet. I'd put it before The Final Cut, The Division Bell, AMLOR, Relics, Saucerful, PATGOD, AHM, and More. I guess that makes it like number 7 or 8 on my list.

Raids I'd check it out. It's pretty characteristic of the Meddle era. Cool songs, and really cool guitar work by Gilmour on that one. The "Mudmen" and "Childhood's End" solos are some of my favorites.

Yes, it'd put it ahead of those. But those don't rank too highly. There are about 7 albums that I absolutely love and the rest are just OK.

If you liked Meddle then you'd probably like OBC, but both of those two albums are probably my least favorites. :(

Hey I finally bought AMLOR. And after the first listen I can safely say I dig it entirely and don't think it deserves quite so much flack. A bit rough around the edges but I think they did well without Roger and it deserves to stand (albiet in the shadow) of it's bigger brother - The Division Bell.

Favourite tracks are probably [b]Signs of Life[/b], [b]On the Turning Away[/b], [b]Yet Another Movie[/b] and [b]Dogs of War[/b] - which is frankly the effing shiznit.

AHM is the only studio album I have left to get. Do I dare?

The rest of the album is amazing too, save for poor ol' Seamus.

Echoes and One of These Days are actually enough by themselves to compete with their other albums. Add in Fearless and San Tropez and there is a serious force to be reckoned with.

you could possibly argue echoes vs shine on, but i'd give it to shine on.

Maybe not individually, but as a whole I see Meddle on par with WYWH. I used to just be blown away by WYWH, but it's lost some effect on me now. Welcome to the Machine and Have a Cigar are great entertaining songs, but nothing that special. So basically you have that partial epic in Shine On (which isn't as good as Echoes) and WYWH (song) that to me isn't much more of an interesting listen than One of These Days.
