I'm seeing Against Me! August 15th at a local bar.

Twin Human Highway Flares 07-12-2007 05:48 PM

I'm thinking of roadtripping to Des Moines on August 1st to see them. It's only like 3 hours away and they're headlining at a smaller venue than the one I saw them at with Mastodon in May.

blockhead 07-12-2007 05:54 PM

I was so excited when I realized they were playing in my area and in a small venue too. The tickets are also pretty cheap like $12.

Tyler 07-12-2007 06:39 PM

I missed an Against Me! show in a really small club around the time As The Eternal Cowboy came out and I've regretted it ever since. I saw them a year later in a bigger venue and while it was still awesome, I really am pissed I missed the other one.

Go see 'em, especially if it's in a dive bar.

Twin Human Highway Flares 07-12-2007 07:03 PM

In October of 05, I think, I saw them at a smallish venue but I only knew like 9 songs by them, only what they had for download on their site, so I didn't really get into it. When they toured with Alkaline Trio (last April, I think it was) they played this smallish (but still kinda big venue) and I stood out in the rain for 2-3 hours only to learn it's sold out. Have since taken to buying tickets in advance if I really need to be at a show. Then they came to a super small venue in April and I couldn't go cos I was in France. Seriously considered skipping France for it.

I missed out on that show too, I was pissed.

I think it was at the Quest, that place burned down too...

Twin Human Highway Flares 07-12-2007 09:15 PM

Did it burn down? I haven't been by there lately but last I heard they had a huge flood or something. I didn't like that place much.

Lazybassplr56 07-12-2007 09:51 PM

They were pretty good on Conan. He seems to like the band.

don't make fun, but i made my family postpone our trip to florida by a week like two years ago so i could go to warped. The week we were originally supposed to go there was a huge hurricane that wiped out a bunch of s'hit and we JUST missed it. Then the day we were leaving, another big one was supposed to touch down the next day. I'm a hero! also, i didn't even end up going to warped...

Maybe it was a flood... Now I'm not sure, but I think it burned down. I heard that somehwere. Either way the place is history now.

Where do you live?

Twin Human Highway Flares 07-13-2007 12:57 AM

Minneapolis, MN.

me likes punk 07-13-2007 01:47 AM

Oh, I thought maybe you were from northern Iowa and just put Minn. as your location. i'm from Iowa, and I'm drunk as hell off a bottle of brandy.

Go midwesterners!

Twin Human Highway Flares 07-13-2007 01:51 AM

Do a lot of Iowans like to pretend they're from MN? I think us Minnesotans would like to think so.

Anarcho Poser 07-13-2007 06:06 AM

I was just watching an interview with Tom and Warren, and they were talking about a tattoo they all got on a tour with Rise Against, None More Black, and Anti-Flag. I dunno when it was, but, minus Anti-Flag, that's damn near a perfect lineup as far as I'm concerned.

asdf 07-13-2007 10:51 AM

I saw them in 2004 without none more black but with rise against and anti-flag. It was a good show, even though it was actually my first introduction to against me! I really enjoyed their show.

I saw them for the first time on that same tour also.

Bukowski 07-14-2007 05:10 AM

This band called Murder by Death supported Against Me when I saw them. They sang about whisky, satan and girls, all with a dark country-folky sort of twist. They were not nearly as good as they should have been.

Anarcho Poser 07-14-2007 06:55 AM

Yeah I saw them with murder by death too. It was a kickass show.

Then I saw them again on the Fat Tour with Smoke or Fire, the Epoxies, and the Soviettes. It was a less kickass show.

Cliche 07-14-2007 11:59 AM

I'm listening to an audio rip of the New Wave dvd right now, they played most excellent. I'm very happy to learn that they also played Bastards Of Young, which for those who haven't heard, is awesome.

I'm uploading it to Megaupload right now, I'll post it here later today.

the fat tour sounds bitc'hin, how was it not good?

Anarcho Poser 07-14-2007 01:11 PM

Oh, it wasn't bad by any means. Just, relative to the first show, at which the only post-cowboy song they played was Joy as an encore, it wasn't as good. Smoke or Fire was excellent though.

SkaRobotArmy 07-14-2007 01:39 PM

Not a problem.

You guys all seem like pretty cool guys, so here's a shot of my Against Me! collection, I can upload any stuff that you guys want. Also, my soulseek name is Patron

The only problem with Soulseek is that sometimes the files don't download properly, so just keep pressing retry, and it will go eventually.

I need to get in on the New Wave commentary and just say that I think it is a pretty good album especially when considered alone, not against their past. I like it.

Liebensaft 07-17-2007 02:36 AM

I heard Thrash Unreal on the satellite radio at work today (XM 47, Ethel). Then I changed the station to 43, XMU. They played two songs from The National in a row. It was a pretty good 10-or-so-minute stretch.

Brewing Up With 07-17-2007 11:50 AM

I think Thrash Unreal is a pretty good song. I just don't like the chorus.

Liebensaft 07-17-2007 01:15 PM

It kind of makes me wince when I hear it. It's tolerable though.

asdf 07-17-2007 01:29 PM

I like the chorus, I just don't like choruses in general. After actually reading the lyrics to that song, it fits. The main reason I can't get into against me!'s stuff from the last two albums is they just seem to follow the usual format when before they did not so often.

SkaRobotArmy 07-17-2007 02:05 PM

i heard 'don't lose touch' today on the edge (for those of you in southern ontario) thats. they mentioned the new album when it came out, but i haven't heard anything from it yet on the radio. i did buy it first day but haven't really listened to it much since i got the leaked and bought two better albums the same day.

Brewing Up With 07-17-2007 03:23 PM

Did any of you guys watch that DVD of Live At Key Club that came with the New Wave cd? I think they played a really really mediocre set.

AndreTheHyena 07-17-2007 03:36 PM

I just swung by to see what the word was on New Wave, actually. I heard about half of it at a party this weekend, and I kinda dug most of it. Has the serious hatin' already commenced?

Anarcho Poser 07-17-2007 04:09 PM

it seems to be more of a serious "meh" then serious hatin'.

mullets suk 07-17-2007 05:05 PM

saw against me with these arms are snakes(?) and mastadon. wierd line up and there was texas style metal heads (with leather cowboy hats and all). the set list for against me was amazing. The best show i have ever seen.

the dvd on new wave i dont really like, because theres not enough audience. half of an against me! show is audience singing.

Cliche 07-17-2007 06:27 PM

Really? They played AM! on The Edge?

...hm.

tom79 07-17-2007 06:55 PM

When I listen to the radio I usually listen to the Edge. Still haven't heard any AM! on a radio though.

Anyway, new albums not that bad, Up the Cuts is my favorite.

Lazybassplr56 07-17-2007 07:28 PM

There playing them a lot out here. I don't mind, I'd rather hear Thrash Unreal over some shitty My Chemical Romance song.

SkaRobotArmy 07-17-2007 07:35 PM

its weird that thrash unreal seems to be the radio single but they released the video for white people for peace...
