Cash and Strummer's version of Redemention Song is very good, better than the orginal in my mind.

CombatRock 04-26-2005 01:08 PM

yea..i need to show my dad that song. he loves Cash but hates Joe and the Clash, maybe if i show him the song he will respect Joe

Brain Toad 04-26-2005 02:07 PM

It fits Joe better than Cash, since its a more revolutinary type song, he adds a lot to Cash's voice when they sing together.

that's how my dad fell in love with the mescaleros.he used to hate joe too

all their albums are good and different, but i think streetcore is my favorite cause get down moses and long shadow are on this one.and long shadow is the first mescaleros song i listened to.

Coma_Girl 04-26-2005 03:14 PM
I've got Streetcore and it is pretty good. People usually say thats the best one.
people usually think that global is better.or maybe just the people i know...my friends think streetcore is too 'country', they just dont know what they're talking about.it doesnt sound country to me.

I prefer Joe and Johnny's version because it's just means so much more now they're both dead. It's like these two legends coming together with a message from the grave. And as much as I like Strummer, his voice isn't the strongest but it works well complementing Cash's.

CombatRock 04-26-2005 05:54 PM

it would have been amazing if it Joe Bob and Cash did it.

Coma_Girl 04-26-2005 06:50 PM

i really dont like bob marley's version

Forest_Fire 04-26-2005 07:03 PM

Oh... I was about to ask who Joe Bob was...

/feels stupid

That's what I thought too. It works extreamly well. I don't like Marley's that much, since I heard Joe and Cash first.

Coma_Girl 04-26-2005 07:26 PM

it sad that cash didnt want to record road to rock'n'roll (on rock art).his voice would have sound amazing on this song.

They say that soley because of long shadow, which is a great song anyway

Coma_Girl 04-26-2005 08:24 PM

its a great song and the first i ever heard by the mescaleros.it's a sad song though, cause joe died soon after he wrote it.streetcore sound a lot like he knew he would die.it freaks me out.

somewhere in my soul...there's always rock'n'roll...

TheNowhereman42 04-26-2005 08:26 PM

Yeah I've thought about that, streetcore really sounds like he knew he was dieing, what with Ramshackle Day Parade, Long Shadow, Redemtion Song, and Silver and Gold.

Coma Girl was the first song I heard

Forest_Fire 04-26-2005 08:31 PM

I'll probably get Streetcore for my birthday. It's fairly soft too, right? My parents might even like it...

TheNowhereman42 04-26-2005 08:36 PM

I've only played Get Down Moses for one person who didn't like it, but he's an ICP fag

TheNowhereman42 04-26-2005 08:50 PM

yeah, i love that guitar riff it starts off whith, like sortof 80's rock-ish, and then it breaks down into the reggae

Coma_Girl 04-26-2005 08:52 PM

The police walked in for Jimmy Jazz
I said, he ain't here, but he sure went past
Oh, you're looking for Jimmy Jazz

Sattamassagana for Jimmy Dread
Cut off his ears and chop off his head
Police came looking for Jimmy Jazz

So if you're gonna take a message 'cross this town
Maybe put it down somewhere over the other side
See it gets to Jimmy Jazz (See)

So tell me now
Police come in they said
Now, Where's Jimmy Jazz?
I said, hmm he was here but uh,
He said he went out
Who is it they're looking for?
Jimmy Jazz, Jazz, Jazz, Jazz eh

Sattamassagana for Jimmy Dread
Cut off his ears and they'll chop off his head
Oh you're looking for
Jimmy Jazz, Jazz...

What a relief!
I feel like a soldier,
But I look like a thief!

Don't you bother me, not anymore
I can't take this tale, oh, no more
It's all around, Jimmy Jazz

J-a-zee zee J-a-zed zed
J-a-zed zed Jimmy Jazz
And then it sucks
He said, suck that!
So go look all around, you can try your luck, brother
ANd see what you found
But I guarantee you that it ain't your day
Your time, it ain't your day

Chop! Chop!

DVG.

Coma Girl was the first Meskies Song i heard to. There is this show on this channel on pay t.v which shows music with skateboarding and stuff like that and i looked to see what bands they were going to play and it had Joe and the Meskies and it was coma girl.

Coma_Girl 04-27-2005 02:57 PM

i think it may be a good thing though...i'm sure they would have been great but it could have give them the idea to make a tour.when joe broke his record deal with sony, the condition was that if the clash ever reformed, sony was in control of the band again.

The first Meskies song I heard was Get Down Moses, and its one of my favorites :thumb:. Steve, you should post your favorite song and lyrics.

CombatRock 04-27-2005 03:31 PM

i was watching this thing about the ramones on tv. and Johnny started talking about the Clash and he said he said they reminded of the Ramones only better then he started talkinga bout how the UK bands ripped of the Ramones. it was cool thought it had interviews with Joe and Paul.

white_riot 04-27-2005 03:42 PM

in that Story of the Ramones movie Johnny said that The Clash were the only band that was as good as them even better. He didn't like the Sex Pistols very much.

Coma_Girl 04-27-2005 03:52 PM
The Clash were the only band that was as good as them even better
pffff.the clash were about 10000x better.johnny was a really modest person, huh

guns_of_brixton 04-27-2005 04:00 PM

Johhny was the crazy Ramone, right? Either way the Clash were better.

sorry, off topic
