Anarcho Poser 06-07-2005 11:13 PM

Beef jerky is likely to be the sole reason I can never go vegan.

Brain Toad 06-08-2005 08:54 AM

Having needle nose pliers work, and being really bored.

Jessizzle 06-08-2005 02:37 PM

I agree, she is an idiot for not liking it.

Jon 06-08-2005 04:13 PM

I guess this is the most appropriate place on the whole of MX to ask, how hard would it be to make leather(ette) jeans? Could I sew leatherette with a sewing machine?

Sewing leather on a sewing machine might break your needle. Make sure you have a tough enough needle to use. My mom's friend got drunk and used her sewing machine for leather, and ended up breaking a bunch of needles.

And if you're going to sew leather, dental floss is recomended. It's very strong.

Jon 06-08-2005 04:32 PM

Dental floss in the machine or by hand?

asdf 06-08-2005 04:37 PM
Dental floss in the machine or by hand?
Yeah, I was just thinking that maybe dental floss can't really go through the machine. You'd have to have a lot of it, and I don't know where you get such a thing. But it does work well by hand.

Jon 06-08-2005 04:56 PM

Listen honey, I can't even sew on a patch by hand (I can but it take me hours).

Dental floss sometimes splits and frays and crap like that. Just double up your thread when you sew ands it works WAY better.

cheeser_1 06-08-2005 05:39 PM

depends on what kind of floss you use, also.

Nihilism'99 06-08-2005 05:58 PM

Yeah it seems like floss isn't as good as I thought it would be.

Anarcho Poser 06-08-2005 08:44 PM

Fishing line.

And if you can't even sew on a patch, you might want to think twice about making your own pants.

He tells the truth. Hand sewing is essential to learn, even if you regularly use a machine.

Jon 06-09-2005 09:49 AM

But it took hours :(

persistenceofresistance 06-09-2005 08:49 PM

X-acto is a DIY's best friend. I love them.

Anarcho Poser 06-09-2005 10:37 PM

Yeah, I never had one before though, so I was never big on making stencils, because I was always tryin' to use scisors and chit.

Brain Toad 06-09-2005 10:44 PM

I always had one, since my dad used to do models heavily. Really useful even for non DIY things.

me likes punk 06-10-2005 12:33 AM

Jon 06-10-2005 10:58 AM

Are there any other decent DIY links that I'm not searching 2600 posts for?
