Bah. Well, you can be a cheerleader if you want.
Big 'ol 123 from here

Small venues they're playing I notice though
Yeah I'm seeing them at the Academy 2, about 500 people, which is tiny really.

Although I do like the smaller venues, but I thought Opeth would be deserving of a bigger venue than that.

Might get scaled up if there is enough interest.

denboy 06-03-2005 07:02 PM
Alright, should I like... have the song playing in the backaround or something? Because growls sound bad without anything behind them IMO. But whatever you want.
If you want to growl over the verse part(at about 5:00 into the song) of the drapery falls I'll be glad to record a guitar track for you to sing over

Darkness 06-03-2005 07:31 PM

That would be great man. I just went through both the growled verses and I kinda burned my throat for the night, but I think I did pretty good. Tomorrow I'll get you guys a decent sample.

denboy 06-03-2005 07:37 PM

Here you go! Guitar part for the verse in the drapery falls :
http://s35.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0XNYSUTO6HF8L3JL1LME2VI3UK It was sort of a first take, so it might be a little sloppy

Darkness 06-03-2005 07:43 PM

Great man, thanks.

If this is asking to much then ignore it, but can you do the next verse to? (the one with growls at like 7 min in)

denboy 06-03-2005 07:47 PM

Ehehehe that's not too much to ask at all, since I already did!.. Here it is: http://s27.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=0ZLZIMM2Y2SIZ2NI3S7NI53G41 the guitar for both growled parts, plus the chaos inbetween of them

Darkness 06-03-2005 08:36 PM

Awesome, downloading now.
Hey, yeah im always here in the Opeth thread looking at the posts awaiting the new album but never really post these days. No time. So....

Ok so ive seen you guys talking about recording on the computer and i got REALLY interested. You see the way i always did it was to plug my mic in and hang it in front of the amp. Then record. But this only works well for acoustic pieces which i have recorded a few pieces of ( some inspired by OPETH themselves!)!

But, ive stopped recently cause what i really wanna do is to plug my guitar in DIRECTLY into the soundcard and record like that. I bought one of those adapters you get for your lead to make it fit the soundcard but I still dont know what to do!? I have a Soundblaster Live

I have a Epiphone Black Beauty, a Boss ME-50 and lots of leads and adapters.

Now, can someone PLEASE help me get my **** together. Id really like to start getting some of my own compositions on my computer. I currently use Sony SoundForge, but i dont know if this is the best option?

Your assistance would be great. Opeth for life.

Thank you for your time.
Garageband + POD XT = all the recording capability you could possibly need. It's what I use and it sounds ****in' great.

EDIT: For Grey Incision

The fingerpicking is my forte, I love doing that. I also have appropriate capabilities on my recording program for the ambient, reverbed leads and for some of the rhythm, but I can't handle all of the many parts in the song. If I could do clean vox and you do growls, that would rock.

The first scream is a nasty challenge though. And you'd have to record two tracks. :)

EDIT 2: I have no way of knowing if I'll actually do this or participate...I would like more people to chime in first, if you understand. :)

denboy 06-04-2005 05:58 AM

If more than one person want to do growls on a track, I think it could sound good if they all did a recording of it, and we mixed them ontop of each other.. Anyone ever tried this before? With proper mixing I think it could sound really good

Moseswasbanned 06-04-2005 08:03 AM

I could do growls, if it's not illegal to do two Official covers because I'm singing in the Tool one. Anyway death growls are pretty easy for me to do for long periods of time and I've been told it sounds good. I'll upload a preview of what it sounds like once my family gets out of the house.

Darkness 06-04-2005 09:04 AM

Where are the rules posted??

Silent Death 06-04-2005 05:40 PM
Bah. Well, you can be a cheerleader if you want.
What the hell, why not. Go Opeth thread go.

Darkness 06-04-2005 09:11 PM

^Nice work man. :D

I'll be able to get you my little growling sample by Monday. Parents aren't leaving the house really tell then.

i am the robots 06-04-2005 09:20 PM

I'm not much for growling, but I could give you all a sample of my screaming tommorrow when my family is at church.

vashts80 06-04-2005 10:13 PM

Is "Closure" supposed to just randomly stop at about 5:15? Or is my copy of it messed up?

mick7 06-04-2005 10:22 PM

No that is how the song was written...cheers to the person who started this thread, about time!!!

Det_Nosnip 06-04-2005 10:48 PM

About time? This thread is like a year old!

mick7 06-04-2005 11:05 PM

Qouted for truth

I think we should do 3 songs, to showcase 3 different aspects of opeth.

To Bid You Farewell-The softer side of Opeth

The moor-The song writing abilities of Opeth

Demon of the fall, blackwater park or Master's Apprentice-The heavy side of Opeth

mick7 06-05-2005 12:28 AM

Hey hey hey aussies what the hell is going on?

p.s.grey incision out of those three heavy songs that heaviest would have to be master's apprentices wouldn't it?

Where's The Drapery Falls? Most popular Opeth song.

Mikael himself insists that demon of the fall is the heaviest track opeth has ever recorded, and possibly some of their newer stuff he mentioned.

And to whoever said do the drapery falls, yes it is popular amongst fans. But it isn't necessarily a great track to showcase the band is it? it isn't very complex with it's guitar work, or drums and bass. There is no doubting that it is good, but it isn't a track to cover i don't think.

I think it's an excellent song to put up. It's easy to do well, and is somthing that would win a competition in my mind. But that's all opinion.

Songwriting wise, it's incredibly complex

Thanx alot Cain. Now, Is it possible to download this programe (garageband) or will I have to buy it? How much is a good proce for a POD?

Thanx for the advice, maybe later I will join in on the Opeth Competition when im ready. If you want I could do a few acoustic sections of Opeth songs? I can do some. I can record acoustic no problem. Let me know.

Anywayz, thanx

I mentioned earlier that I wanted ask if any of you were interested in doing an opeth song for fun rather than competition and I chose "the drapery falls," just for that.

suspect 06-05-2005 02:30 PM

I'm in for any cover. I also just found out that I'll get to see Opeth in September too.

RustedPieces 06-05-2005 03:09 PM

I've never heard any Opeth, can you guys recommend me some good songs if its not too much trouble?

Darkness 06-05-2005 03:10 PM

The Drapery Falls, Windowpane, and Blackwater Park would be nice starting places. Oh and get Face of Melinda, just cuz I'm listening to that now. :)

RustedPieces 06-05-2005 03:35 PM

Everything was pretty good. I can honestly say that I'm not a big fan of the vocals.

Deth 06-05-2005 04:36 PM

They'll grow on you, that is a promise.

I was thinking, Bleak would blow everyone out of the water. Anyone willing to give it a shot?

Unfortunely, I was unable to buy an adapter for my computer to record, but I did buy a new bass.

Darkness 06-05-2005 04:38 PM

I'd like to do the vocals for bleak... but then again I still gatta get you guys a sample of me.. :)

Darkness 06-05-2005 04:39 PM
Everything was pretty good. I can honestly say that I'm not a big fan of the vocals.
Do you like his clean voice at least?

Deth 06-05-2005 04:39 PM

Yeah, and we need someone to do the clean part with you. I can play bass to that song just fine.

Darkness 06-05-2005 04:42 PM

Lets fill in the rest of the members first, were ganna need a few guitar players, and a drummer.

Deth 06-05-2005 04:48 PM

Now we play the waiting game...

while you play it, check out my new bass http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=bass/search/detail/base_pid/517431/

Darkness 06-05-2005 04:49 PM

That looks pretty cool... the reviews seem really good.
