Minuteflag
Minutemen and Black Flag?

indy_undy 12-28-2004 06:30 AM

Sonic Youth, The Pixies and The Walkmen. Whats a good Bright Eyes recording to start with?

Tapeworm 12-28-2004 06:42 AM

I'd get Fevers and Mirrors first, but it doesn't really matter. They are all really good (with the exception of A Collection of Songs which is kinda average).

I've been digging Kid A, which I just got. I had actually never heard it all before, just one or two songs. So yeah. It's great.

Happymeal 12-28-2004 08:14 AM

Blazing Arrow and Tales of the Inexpressible

Tomahawk 12-28-2004 08:16 AM

Ben Folds Five, Ryan Adams, De La Soul, Deltron 3030

is what I'm digging.

Luxor 12-28-2004 11:00 AM
All those are on sale round these parts too. I gotta pick up "Remain In Light" and "Harvest".

I would too, because it would only be 20 bucks, if it wasn't for the fact that I saw Revolver on vinyl for 18 bucks. That's like half the cd price
Harvest wasn't on sale, I would have bought it if it was though. I got Freedom. (Remain In Light is the Talking Heads album I got)

ballad__man 12-28-2004 05:09 PM

Sigur Rós, Múm, Kaizers Orchestra, Spinvis, Stuurbaard Bakkebaard, Die Toten Hosen, The Paper Chase.

limemachine 12-28-2004 09:56 PM

I have FEAR OF MUSIC and '77 by the HEADS

I've been digging Elliott Smith and Built to Spill...and Karate.

oooooh Tapey likes Radiohead again :p
Harvest wasn't on sale, I would have bought it if it was though. I got Freedom. (Remain In Light is the Talking Heads album I got)
What a shame. 'Round here, Harvest can be all yours for a mere 9 dollars.

slug4k 12-29-2004 07:56 AM
Yeah... sure I'll accept your apology. So what music do you like so we can give constructive suggestions?
I like pretty much anything, but im more into heavy metal, but Ive recently started to like kasabian, killers and stuff liek that! And im alos very into rage against the machien and slipknot. Its just Ive never really listend to that much indie + alt rock so i was wondering what good bands there were! :thumb:

Tapeworm 12-29-2004 07:57 AM

Yes, yes. Words are the meal of the day around here.

I bought Fugazi's 13 Songs today but I haven't listened to it yet. The guy at the record store seemed really happy that someone was buying a Fugazi record.

Tomahawk 12-29-2004 08:27 AM

Been digging the Cure, and a bit of the Arcade Fire.

I'm also heavily digging that new Architecture in Hellsinki song, Do the Whirlwind. Fuck it's catchy. If anybody wants to hear it, it's streaming on their website, http://www.architectureinhelsinki.com/

Tapeworm 12-29-2004 08:55 AM

A chick I know's band supported them. They kick bunghole.

The Ashtray Girl 12-29-2004 09:16 AM

Iai 12-29-2004 09:18 AM

Ashtray hit 2,000.

Bartender 12-29-2004 01:44 PM

Checked out all the record stores and things in town today, with the intention of buying lots of things, but various things conspired to mean I only ended up with three new CDs.

Gang of Four - Solid Gold/Another Day, Another Dollar*
Kaada/Patton - Romances
The Blueprint - Phenomenology

*not sure what's going on here, one disc, but labelled as two separate albums (?), with separate tracklistings and things.

At the moment I'm listening to the Blueprint album, since I've been waiting for it for a while. The others will undoubtedly be dug later today, though.

Tanglewood 12-29-2004 02:27 PM

What i've been diggin'

I'm quite liking Pantera's album Cowboy's from hell

A Goonie 12-29-2004 03:19 PM

Right now i've been into The Moving Units... got introduced to them by my friend, yup yup their really good. Some good songs are "Between Us & Them" & "Anyone"

Iai 12-29-2004 03:39 PM
I'm quite liking Pantera's album Cowboy's from hell
That's the only really great album they've made. Certainly the only one worthy of all the hype their music is getting since Dimebag died.

Zappa 12-29-2004 04:10 PM

I got "Sandbox: The Music of Mark Sandman" in the mail today, so I'm digging that.

Iai 12-29-2004 04:12 PM

Today I have been mostly digging all the suggestions you lovely people made in my thread. Also, Bloc Party.

NineBitFable 12-29-2004 05:51 PM

I just went out and bought 4 cds w/ xmas money, so I'm in the process of listening to each one.
Husker Du- New Day Rising
Sonic Youth- Evol
My Bloody Valentine- Isnt Anything
Pixies- Surfer Rosa

Happymeal 12-29-2004 06:20 PM

I got Weezer's S/T for $5 yesterday.

Iai 12-29-2004 06:51 PM

Blue or Green?

Happymeal 12-29-2004 06:58 PM

Blue, I mean.

Iai 12-29-2004 07:02 PM

Good.

izzy 12-29-2004 08:06 PM

Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works

That's all I can list by him because that album (2 disc set) set me back by 24 bucks. It's worth it though, each CD's just about set to the limit, both clocking out around 80 minutes. Really good stuff, all mellow music.

I need some help finding new stuff. Right now I'm digging The Flaming Lips (all except their 80's stuff, I just can't get into it), Sigur Ros, Radiohead, and Beck. Any suggestions? I've been considering getting Agaetis Byrjun (and most likely will), not too interested in Beck's Stereopathic Soulmanure, so basically not interested in any suggestions for the bands that've been listed. I also listen to Modest Mouse, Bright Eyes, Weezer, Built to Spill, The White Stripes, and Pixies. I'm not interested in Muse, Dinosaur Jr., Sonic Youth, The Mars Volta, The Smiths, Interpol, Franz Ferdinand, The Shins, or Death Cab for Cutie. Any suggestions?

P.S.- Please excuse the pickiness.

Iai 12-29-2004 08:13 PM

Try Mansun - Wide Open Space, or Legacy. If you like, try and get hold of the album Six.

And Haven - Till The End, and Say Something are awesome songs. However, I can't recommend an album since I only have one and I have yet to listen to it.

Of course, I'll recommend The Afghan Whigs too, but you probably already knew that. And if Odelay's your bag, get Paul's Boutique by the Beasties.

$3.99 at HMV? :thumb:

Ornery Cephalopod 12-30-2004 12:47 AM

Since my soundcard is dead, and I now have a portable CD player to listen to music much more often, I've been stuck listening to albums I already own.

Especially Beulah, Mars Volta, Calexico, Pinback, Kayo Dot, Fant/o\mas, Masterdone...

It's been ages since I've discovered any new bands. :(

The Ashtray Girl 12-30-2004 03:40 AM

Today I love Beck.

br3ad_man 12-30-2004 04:23 AM

I'm trying to download "Revolver" off Soulseek because I got it on vinyl, which is badass, unless I want to listen to it away from home. It was my first vinyl. Not bad?

Tomahawk 12-30-2004 04:27 AM

I saw OK Computer on vinyl today. Fifty-two dollars.

I really don't get the whole "buying vinyl" thing.

br3ad_man 12-30-2004 04:37 AM

I don't really either. I just got "Revolver" because it has a badass cover and it was just a bit over half the price of the cd version.

Iai 12-30-2004 06:10 AM
I saw OK Computer on vinyl today. Fifty-two dollars.
That's fucking ludicrous.

Unless you have some wierd currency and $52 is not that much. :-*

Tomahawk 12-30-2004 06:22 AM

It's $52 Australian, which is about $40 US. So yeah, it's insane.

Little Man being Erased 12-30-2004 07:43 AM

DJ Shadow still, and Beastie Boys - Hello Nasty, and Coheed and Cambria - IKSOSE:3

pbass63 12-30-2004 12:17 PM

im starting to like this band called Simian. Theyre funny looking.

Tangy zizzle 12-30-2004 04:44 PM
