Left Face Down 10-06-2009 10:24 PM

15 hours, and you want a BEER? Get back to work, studying, taking tests, or going to class and get back to me in another week. Then we can have a beer together.

I took yesterday off and I'm regretting it today. I <3 engineering... I just couldn't motivate myself to do hw last night. Oh, I've got all day today to do hw pretty much. I'm like stumped on a few questions, hw is due tomorrow, and tomorrow night until Sunday is studying for the two tests I have next Monday. Minus watching the LSU Vs. Florida game.

Though like last weekend, if we win there will be no alcohol in my body because I have to ****ing study the next day. ARGH, all work and no play makes me wish I had a girl friend to ****.

macks, have you ever worked with Audition/Cool Edit Pro? If so how do I apply something like a limiter across all channels?

I'm encountering something I've never really bothered with before; when i get so many tracks, none of which are clipping, and play em simultaneously it clips a bit, yeah? Well would a limiter across the board resolve this/how am I supposed to get around this?

Also: Devin Townsend's new stuff is sounding win.

The Black Fist 10-07-2009 01:04 PM

sbt you will soon learn why cool edit sucks and that is because there's no master bus or group channels so to apply a limiter you have to bounce the tracks as a mix then limit them

then if you want to go back and change the mix hoo you're ****ed boy

I'm only still using because I haven't the time to get accustomed to Cubase right now. I've got SX3 and it looks fun but also different so I'm a-scared.

Also wtf@ no master bus. But yes, is that how you're supposed to get around the problem I described above?

The Transporter 10-07-2009 01:57 PM

cubsae sx3 keep messing up my synth VSTIs. Any time i tstop playback it reverts back to the original preset on the synth.

The Black Fist 10-07-2009 02:13 PM

a limiter would actually alter the sound of the audio wheras if you want to just straight lower the volume then just straight lower the volume

when tracks multiply they get louder so yeah you'll just need to turn them down

the gain staging in cool edit sucks so just wing it

yeah that's probably cubase's fault... Check the midi if there are any hidden commands, there's a dropdown meny to the left of the velocity values. Remove everything that's not velocity. Problem solved. :)

I sold ALL of my guitars pretty much and ended up with a brand new Fender USA tele for 600 flat. I think they for for about a 1000 or even more.

Now I need a guitar with humbuckers, and I've never owned a les paul and really want one. But I don't really spend any money on gear anymore. Haven't bought anything guitar related since January, and that was the Tele.

pretty much what dave said, get a better DAW like cubase cos cooledit sucks and i'm pretty sure you can't do that.

also, none of the tracks clip individually but they do when they're all playing at once? yeah probably clipping, especially if that bar at the bottom goes over the -0db into the red.

i looked and i can't find what you're talking about. probably because i don't have much experience using cubase. can you elaborate or gimme a screen shot?

I'm not sure about SX3 but the getting started guide for Cubase 4 was one of the best written introductory manuals i've seen on a product, made switching over from Audition take all of a couple hours of getting used to it. And the tome that is the rest of the manual is full of helpful information. Rarely had a question I couldn't answer by looking through that.

Plenty of mdis you steal from songs usually have these kinds of commands, Can be quite annoying sometimes.

oh yeah, I love using F1 in cubase sx3! The Help is so thoroughly written. You CAN get the answer to almost all of your question in it.
