Getting into Iron Maiden because everyone at your school wears their shirts is not a good reason. You don't want to become a Maiden poser.
Sadly most people are...."yeah, what do you think of the albums with paul diannio" "With Who?" |

whatever gets them into the band, ive nevet met a half assed Iron Maiden fan before. Everyone i know is obsessed with them after a few listens. i first bought "best of the beast" like 6 years ago because i had seen people wearing their shirts to shows and seen pics in magazines, but then again the music world was differnet in the 90's than it is now hehe. |

Leave the guy alone, maybe he is just trying new things out. Its only bad if he listens to an album and doesn't like it, but still wears an Iron Maiden T-shirt and says he likes 'em. I'd suggest getting either Rock in Rio or Best of the Beast or Edward the great to start off with. and Eddie, I know what you mean, that kind of thing really pisses me off... |
Don't get into maiden... they're appaling... try Priest... their solos are far superior... Maiden solos have the musical merit of whoopie goldberg garotting a goat

Quit spreading your anti-Maiden propaganda if you've got nothing to say. Obviously you're no bassist. |

you have made no impact on anyone's opinions here and made a fool of yourself at the same time. |

Although he does make a good point; get into priest first. :p Hmm, that wasn't the point he made at all... He did make a good point: Priest's solos are way better. :D .... and they are. :D |

I would like to see you try better. |

Hmm, that wasn't the point he made at all... He did make a good point: Priest's solos are way better. :D .... and they are. :D
i got into Maiden first and belive Maiden are superior in all aspect, including leads. KK espically dosent have what it takes to stand up to Dave and Adrian, Janick id say so. Glenn is a very very well rounded lead player and id say has the most musical muscle solo's out of all of them, but i wouldnt say i think his leads are any where as pationate and experimental as Adrian and Davey's where their solos are alot more flavorful and fit the music much more. Iron Maiden in all aspects ive found to out perform Judas Priest (who are one of my top favourite bands by the way) espically in terms of their rhytem section. Clive and Nicko have much more original ideas than what had been presented with the majority of the Priest drummes whereas only Les Binks and Scott Travis were the only ones who i felt enhanced the music at all. Bass wise, i dont even want to chart those waters. Vocals, its even keil to every level. Both can hit'em low, and both can hit'em high. Rob and Bruce have the ability to be unforgetable frontmen and have voices that are hailed as influences to countless vocalists since the early 80's. Riffing...Priest are alot more cut and dry than Maiden are and didnt have the wonderful "tone" that Maiden have on their albums. Priest follow a basic riff formula as does Maiden, when you break it down it comes down to preference and ive always sided with Maiden's guitar riffs over Priests, they are more diverse and certainly have less filler tracks on albums (if any on most records). lyrically they are two different giants, Priest are more friendly to the average listner as Maiden's are more well researched and well thought out, i find Maiden's enchanting as Priests are more sing alongs. Solo wise, ill say it again...Glenn and Adrian have the most difficult pieces to play but it comes down to the feel, and Priest have more "solo just for the sake of soloing" ethic than Maiden do where its more "if a lead is needed than we'll use a lead, if not why bother?". Comparing two of the greatest metal bands of all time is hard, this is alot like the eternal battle of "Metallica vs Megadeth" where in this case Priest are Metallica and Maiden are Megadeth, more people are into Metallica and Priest becuase tehy are more friendly to the average listners ear, but when it comes down to it...the more diehard and dedicated fans are more into Megadeth and Maiden. Id say with the exception of slayer and kiss, there arent any fans who are as diehard about a band as the Maiden fans are and i stand by what i feel. Iron Maiden are a superior musical talent and their songwriting has proven it worldover, making them in what id say as the most well respected metal band worldover. |
Good job Frail, but the only reason I like Maiden so much is the bass. Also, I haven't heard anything from Priest except singles, so there's very little to judge Halford by. Even though he's supposed to be the greatest metal vocalist ever, I need to hear it for myself.
|
^ Listen to Victims of Changes. That scream is awesome.
I actually perfer Dickinson over Halford. To me Dickinson has a better all around voice, while Halford has better screams. |
i find halfords voice a little anyoing(especially if he always sings like he does on "Breakin the Law") and bass wise, i agree with frail, dont even get me started :p
nice frail :thumb: |
the moral of the story is: NWOBHM > all
|
^Couldn't have put it better myself
p.s. Maiden>all |

nice frail :thumb:
of all people i wouldnt let you down :) hehe, just my two cents. Halford is one of my favourite vocalists on top of Priest being one of the bands in the most heavy rotation in my cd players, but when it comes to Maiden i dont let any metal band stand above them hehe. |
Well said Frail anyhoo seeing you guys seem to know everything about maiden, Answer me these questions three. 1 who does that last solo in Flight of Icarus. That solo is the greatest I think. 2. Being I have there first six cds and Brave New World what would be a wise desicion as far as what to purchase next. 3. Is Dance Of the Death any good

Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son |
1. Steve said that Dave Murray does both solos (or one big solo) on that song, but it sure sounds a lot like Adrian. No wait, it's almost assuredly Dave.
|
wish i could see em live...

Dave does the first and Adrian the second, watch the music video...it shows them playing it :). also look at who writes the songs. PS: you can tell after awhile whos playing what lead preety easily :) |

PS: you can tell after awhile whos playing what lead preety easily :)
I can usually tell them apart pretty good (Adrian does most of Revelations, right?), but there was a website with a quote from Steve Harris that says "If you're keeping track of solos, this one's Davey" or something to that effect. |
just watch the video lol.
how i tell them appart is by their tone. Davey uses his neck pickup with is naturally (on a stratocaster) more low tones and he has a very legatto style of playing, more constant notes with alot of hammer-ons and fewer notes are picked. Adrian's is the most wide ranged, he can play the best speed metal solos but also incorporates alot of bluesy licks (if you a guitarist you know what i mean!) into his solos, he also finger taps more often and uses the wah at times. Janick is the sloppiest and generally has a more rough and strait picked tone to his. after hearing years of Maiden telling them appart gets as easy as parents telling their triplet children appart hehe. |
sure is, it has pashendale, one of my favourite maiden songs ever! its an 8 minute epic about war. other good songs on the album are monstegur, no more lies, dance of death and rainmaker. i dont really care for the firsat track (wildest dreams) though |
dance of death is very good... some say better than BNW. the last solo on icarus is davey... i always thought it was adrian but the video says otherwise... maybe he's just using his bridge pick up.
adrian should go back to using lado earths and SGs |
