i think eulogy was written about someones pointless life, and all the empty words that this man said. It sounds like a person speaking, well, someones eulogy, and saying how useless their life was but that they were still gonna miss him. Sounds like the guy used to be a preacher of some kind, using the fire and brimstone approach, blaming everybody for their mistakes, but not mentioning his own....
what says that it's about any particular person. the reply above didn't label one person, yet many other people in all 80 pages seem to say it's about Hicks, Hubbard, or Jesus. Though it's good to analyze things, especially tool, remember maynard saying "over thinking over analyzing seperates the body from the mind" basically what i'm saying is it's fine to dig into maynards lyrics and find a meaning, but there is a point where some people go to far and they make fools of themselves.

sorry if i pissed anyone off, but i havent seen anyone state anything like that yet. and the truth needs to be heard.

StigmaShadow 12-09-2004 07:48 AM

I was told Third Eye was about the death of Bill Hicks. And using psychadelics (Phosphorescent Desert Buttons). As for Eulogy I think it's about "jesus". Though I can't prove it... Where he say's "Standing above the crowd. He had a voice that was strong and loud. I swallowed his facade, cause I'm so eager to identify with someone above the crowd, someone who seemed to feel the same, someone prepeared to the lead way, and someone who would die for me." He's telling mainly Jesus has proposed to lead them in the right direction... "Swallowed his facade". Saying I suppose that he knows he was lying, but he has nothing else to believe in... Sounds odd. I can't explain well... Drug addict for you, laff... But Salival is a great album.. I just got it three nights ago.. I love Pu****... The guitar intro is simple but harmonically perfect... His voice is by far one of the best... I like the sample at the beginning of Third Eye. Part of Me is alright... Can someone else tell me which other song's are good? By track number? This band has worked so hard... When people compliment or tell them they adore him... He only says something like "We're showing you that you can do this too." -No one- can do what Tool has done... They are the wisest band I know of... :chug:

Very nice for a first post:thumb:

jamesclelland 12-09-2004 01:28 PM

track 5 and 7 on salival are amazing. both covers, one is of justins previous band where he played guitar. that is called you lied, though it sounds nothing like the original, it's a thousand times better. same with track 7. Old zeppelin masterpiece no quater. they made zeppelin look like a bunch of newbies. new vamps and upgraded solos, they added about 5 minutes to it and every minute added is absolutely necessary.

Expresso 12-09-2004 09:35 PM

I disagree. Tool didn't do it any better than Zeppelin, but they did offer a very new take on it. I woulda liked it better if Maynard hadn't covered his voice with effects for a good part of the song.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Tool version, but you can't really compare it IMO. Zeppelin were not newbies...

I thought Tool's version smashed the original, but that doesn't mean I'm saying Zeppelin's version is horrible. Before I heard Tool's cover, I thought No Quarter was a really awesome song, but Tool just completely remodified it and added all their unique signature elements of songwriting and turned it into an even more amazing song, which is why I prefer Tool's over Zeppelin's.

The JoZ 12-09-2004 10:57 PM

I have honestly never heard the original No Quarter. So I don't compare it to the original, I just simply state Tool did a great cover of it, because the song is great :thumb:

The original is a lot different. It uses some odd tones, and Plant's voice has effects dubbed over in parts. Its less 'rock' than normal Zeppelin stuff.

Incidently, im pretty sure its not even a led song, and it was one that came about when Page and Plant re united for their little project. Can someone confirm this for me?

As for the You Lied cover, i have Peach's album, and their oriinal was more raw sounding, and quicker. Adam slowed down the guitar parts for tool's version, andremoved notes to give it more of a sustaining effect. But both are great in their different moods

(if you want to hear the original, let me know, most of you have my Gmail address, if not, post here and ill send you it)

Street Spirit (Fade Out) 12-10-2004 08:33 AM

please send it to me, and if possible the tool one too

I'm pretty sure it is, because I think I saw it on the Latter Days CD (Geatest Hits disc 2)

I have the Remasters, and unfortunately, No Quater isn't on there :/

Listening as i type, sounds good so far (Vox haven't kicked in yet)...Um ok the vox are different lol, kinda reminds me of robert smith (the cure) it's kinda flat and monotonous(is that the word?) but it sounds like it grows on ya. Instrumentation is cool though, sounds alot like tool to me. Whats the rest of the album like? Is this one of the better songs?

Justin, Danny and Adam started writing music, and would send it to Maynard, and Maynard would send them lyrics and stuff back. It was a back-and-forth endeavor between the band, but now that APC's touring is done, it is presumed Maynard is back w/ Tool working with them full time.

jensmatty 12-11-2004 05:41 AM

I dont think they have... APC was done in the break between the albums when they had a disagreement with the record company wasn't it? i can't really remember it's late haha.

TheMachineRagesOn 12-11-2004 06:52 AM
