I dont know, D+D were written and recorded in a little over 2 months. They finished them in September 02, and Deliverance was released in November 02.So hopefully they wont take olong to release this after the finish it.
I think Opeth should take as much time as they can to PERFECT this new album. I understand that Opeth might've been on a tight budget/schedule for the past two albums, and the two albums are AWESOME anyway, but I'd rather have quality or haste. But either way, I'd love to hear any new opeth, as long as they don't take the Metallica route.

They're not gonna turn into the next Metallica. No worries. And the making of the last two albums were so harrowing that Opeth are making sure to actually rehearse and be very well-prepared for the recording sessions. Mikael said he wanted to go in with all the music totally finished.

Grey Incision 04-07-2005 12:21 AM

HE also said that they say it about all the albums they do :p and look what happened

opeth_oasis 04-07-2005 02:37 AM

i hope it is released soon, but i guess the longer they take the better it will be

Deth 04-07-2005 07:31 AM

Well, let's hope.

the2stranger 04-07-2005 01:38 PM

/wants a teaser.

they should launch a minisite like PT's Deadwing. that would be cool,

Deth 04-07-2005 06:57 PM

I really don't want to hear any of it until the album is released and I'm able to lie in my bed with my rocking stereo up way loud.

And listen to it 5 times in a row.

I found the perfect way to describe to people that Opeth is not necessarily "devil music" because of the growls.

All of my friends claim I listen to devil music (Opeth), but until recently I have not been able to convince them that Opeth is not singing about the devil.

Let's take a band they like, or at least have heard about, Guns N Roses. Now what does Axel sound like? Now my opinion is that he sounds like a dying cat, but just because he sounds like that does not mean he sings about dead cats does it? No. At least from what I have heard...

I guess it's not a bad analogy, although there might be better ones to be found :p

How about you point out that there probably ISN'T a devil, and even if there was, he would probably not come screaming out like that, would he? A million cross wielding Christians would jump him! The devil would be a crafty, smooth, probably very attractive. To be a nerd and quote the lord of the rings: he would appear fair, but feel foul.

Or you could point out that, regardless of what it sounds like, that is still a human being growling there. What does that say? Human beings, particularly superstitious ones, often feel a need to displace "good" and "evil." People who do bad things are somehow...not human in the same way that normal people are, just as people we call "saints" are not. Jesus Christ had to be a God for us to believe in him just as Hitler has to be a monster. This is all bull****, though. What people need to realize is that everything is human; we are capable of great good and great evil. We are capable of great beauty - Anneke Van Giersbergen's voice, or Mikael's singing voice - and great savagery/intensity/"devilishness." Mikael's growls are cool because they push the limits of what human beings are capable of doing with their voice - people can't accept that the sounds he makes come from a human voice, so they have to label it according to some mythical creature.

Or, you could just tell them to fuck off. :p

Deth 04-08-2005 07:58 AM

I like the second option and then turning up Black Rose Immortal in front of them.

nice one dude!

people should just respect eachother's choices and not whine about being devil(worschippers) or God know's what terms some people throw around.

and if people want to critiseze they should atleast have arguments, , lots of people fail at the arguments part :p

np: Opeth - A fair judgement., live at sheperds bush :D ( ripped it from the dvd and turned it to mp3 files

Sweet.

Arise II 04-10-2005 03:12 PM

Hiya. I'm sorta new to Opeth, and I want to know what album to buy.

I've listened to a few songs, and the one that really stands out to me is Blackwater Park (I like the more ballad-ish songs to, but they sorta gets into the background after a while, and I stop noticing that their playing)

So, what CD's should I get (from what I've heard, the rest of the Blackwater... album is pretty much only ballads, so I prolly wont be getting that one)

Special Brew 04-10-2005 04:00 PM

I started with Orchid. Usually the best starter albums are either Deliverance, Blackwater park or Still Life I think. But it really depends on what your tastes currently are. The first time I heard Opeth I thought they were like Porcupintree because the first song I heard was Harvest. Until then I never could get into much death-ish metal. So it's kinda hard to choose a starting point not knowing your tastes. I say Blackwater Park but you said you wouldn't be getting that one, so I'd go for Still Life if I was you.

I disagree. Axel sounds like Fran Drescher being strangled with barbed-wire under water.

Kaiwaz 04-10-2005 04:32 PM
Looks like I'll have to wait to order till tomorrow because he's being a pansy about it.

/Sadly sits with only 3 Opeth albums.
...Or you can DL Limewire :)

Iron Man 04-10-2005 04:40 PM

I made a point to buy all 7 albums, Lamentations, and a Still Life T-shirt with my own money. I'm such a fanboy.

Grey Incision 04-10-2005 06:42 PM

I think the best starter album, judging by your tastes, would either be My arms your hearse, or Deliverance, the two heavier albums

Juicy_Forlorn 04-10-2005 07:01 PM

Hi all. Could you guys tell me if there are any more Opeth instrumentals other than:
Ending Credits
Epilogue
For Absent Friends
Madrigal
Patterns in the Ivy
Silhouette
Requiem

Any replies will be appreciated.

Nope, that's all

bucket 04-10-2005 08:18 PM

So my Still Life CD came into the store I ordered it from on Friday. Lucky for me I left my lights on. Well, I kind of left them on. You see, when you leave them on and open the door, no warning sound is made and the lights turn off, but the parking lights stay on. What the hell.

So my gay parking lights drained my battery. I had it jumped, but by that time the store was closed and they're only open two days a week! :-\

I'll get it Tuesday... hopefully

I don't download, especially not Opeth.

 Wow, if you think that the rest of BWP is ballads...

I'll just say this: only one song on BWP does not feature Mikael growling, and that is Harvest. (err...and the instrumental :p ). They are long, progressive songs, not short+fast numbers, so don't turn it off just because it starts with clean vocals or an acoustic guitar (GOD, I NEVER thought I would have to give THAT advice!! ).

laura_au 04-11-2005 10:19 AM

i have to thank God for limewire. limewire enabled me to download every single album that OPETH had.

the best word to describe OPETH is simply beautiful. not aggressive, beautiful. all their albums are consistent from orchid to blcakwater park.
i can say that there is no band out there that can top OPETHS work this days

Triangle 04-11-2005 11:18 AM

I'm currently digging Delieverance

alurny 04-11-2005 01:22 PM

I started and currently only own still life but it is one hell of a fantastic album, absolutely awesome in every aspect. Beautiful.

Now, that I would not do. IMO, the longer a somng is (and more contrast-filled) the better. Its just that of all the Opeth songs I've downloaded, most of them were just clean and acoustic throughout
