Someone needs to update the Official Recordings thread...maybe madthumbs will be on soon. Does anyone hold a record for the comps right now?

Spaceman Spiff 11-06-2004 12:21 AM

today at school i had to film an instructional video aimed at teaching grade 10 students about camera shots and stuff with a friend in my class. there is also this guy that helps out in my class that is a year older and knows all about video and stuff related to the course, helping out is something he does for one of his classes.
anyway, we were doing just fine with the filming and he was there helping us and just giving us pointers, and he tells us about one of the shots that because it is further away it is less intimate. he then need to add in "and you don't need to laugh just because of the word 'intimate.'" he did this on purpose just to screw with us.
so of course, we're filming, 3 times we had to cut because we all broke out laughing at the word "intimate." he knew what he was doing what he said that.
it was hilarious.

i'm still laughing just thinking about it.

:amaze: 11-06-2004 12:27 AM

My biggest concern is getting into my college of choice, the University of Michigan. It is the only public school in the state (I pretty much have to stay in-state) that has the field of study (sound engineering), but it is also the hardest to get into. I consider myself to be a smart kid (3.8 GPA, 31 ACT), but I'm also a middle-class white male, which is a major disadvantage. Also, I should have already applied at least a month ago, and I am doing that this weekend/next week, so I am kicking myself major for that. Dammit, I am so worried I won't get in. Ugh.

Then there is the gf. I love her to death. I really do ... we have been dating for almost 2 years, but she graduated last year and I am now a senior. As awesome as it is to date a hot college chick, it's really hard because there is a huge difference between the two age groups. She is already talking about when she graduates, and moving out of state and stuff, and I feel really ... I don't know, I feel bad because she is stressing out way too much and it's getting to me too. Sorry, that's about the end of my emo-ness.

Money. Everyone says that money doesn't matter or whatever, but I really need some. I am working a bunch, but I also need a new car. The transmission in mine is going fast - I don't think it will last through the winter. I also need to save up for college ... I have basically nothing in my college savings account.

Time. There is never enough. I haven't even had time to fill out my freaking college applications, I have been trying for a few weeks now. Not to mention time for school work (2 of my classes aren't going so hot because I have no time to do hw for them). I have very very minimal time to see my girlfriend (sorry, I promise I'm done with the emo) and I really like (need) time by myself each day, and I have been forced to take that out of my sleeping time, I haven't gotten a good night's sleep in a loooong time.

I've also been questioning my beliefs a lot lately. I don't think I should get into this right now, but I was raised Catholic, and pretty much followed it the first 16 or so years of my life, but now I am so confused/angry at so many things, that I don't know what I think. I'm not sure whether to talk to my parents about this ... they go to church (with me, when i dont have to work) every week pretty much, but we don't really talk about religion outside of it, so it wold be really weird.

There's a lot more I could go on about, but I don't even expect you guys to read this much, and I feel a little better.

:amaze:

e p 11-06-2004 12:32 AM

About that religious beliefs thing--go over the Politics forum and search for things then base your decisions off those. Or talk to me on YIM.

Good luck with your college aspirations. I can relate to your sleep problem--it sucks.

Tryxx 11-06-2004 12:34 AM

Wow... I wish things were better for you. So far I'm content with the way things are set. I'm going to a community college before I decide on my major and going for that... My girlfriend...well that aspect sucks, but I'm doing my best to get over that. I need cash for alot of things to. What kind of car do you have? Used transmissions aren't TOO expensive, though it'll cost about a grand to build a new one. Time sucks...I agree. And I don't see how wanting to see someone you love/like is emo-esque. That's natural. I can't help with religion.

...why wouldn't we read it?

RaVen_Bassist 11-06-2004 12:34 AM

i read that. i really did.

on college---i had the same time problem and middle class white male thing. it ended up costing me. i was too late. it worked out though, because i applied for the next semester and started then. i was able to work and get some money saved up.

on the lady---i dont know what to say there, i was the other way around, as i'm a year older than my wife.

on money---really nothing can be done other than work or the lottery. sorry man.

time---just try.

beliefs---dont let that bother you now. try not to think about it and concentrate on other things. around my senior year, i went through the same thing. i was in about the same situation as you. i stopped thinking about religion and focused on other things. once some of that was worked out, i was able to sit and hammer out what i believe in.

all in all, best of luck man. seriously.

:amaze: 11-06-2004 12:41 AM

thanks guys. My girlfriend just got online, and I'm pretty much telling her the same things i'm telling you ... thanks for your input. :)

:amaze:

Spaceman Spiff 11-06-2004 12:41 AM

i know all about sleep deprivation and it can make some things really seem worse than they are. i'm not saying your problems are small or pointless, but they may seem much worse when you aren't fully yourself.

the religion thing, well, i one time had a religious questioning in my life when i was much younger. however my beliefs changed when a specific event took place (that i will not mention) and although i still consider myself to be jewish, i just cannot exactly believe much beyond the point that 'i was born jewish, that is all.' i have no religious beliefs anymore these days.
if you really feel you should, then you should talk to your parents about it.

i hope everything works out for you, college, girlfriend, money... :thumb:

Yeah Luke, I kinda know what ur going through. I had that same situation with the whole college thing last year when I was a senior and hoping to get into my first choice school (I luckily did, and am in New York City now) The sleep deprivation thing, was the way of my life during my senior year. I had school, and had 2 AP classes and the rest honors and all that fun stuff, was involved in Concert, Marching and Jazz bands at my school, as well as the community concert band and the youth symphony (I also play Sax and Bassoon other than Bass, actually, bass is my newest instrument). Not to mention an hour private sax lesson every week, and an hour karate class every week. And I also worked about 16-20 hours a week. And on top of that, all the homework for school.

Wow, I have no clue I did that much last year... I'm surpirsed I slept at all...

I guess all i gotta say is that everything will get better, once you finish the college application and get accepted and all that fun stuff. Whoever said that senior year of high school is the easiest was probably on crack, it was my hardest, but I look back and enjoyed how busy I was... that's all, hope everything gets better.
