Jandek - Ready For the House

I'm listening to this for the first time and I'm not sure what to think. This is probably the strangest singer/songwriter album that I've ever listened to.

Yukon - Furnaces

jesus christ this album is good, and i cant find anything else by them or about them as hard as i try

At The Drive-In - Relationship Of Command
David Bowie - Ziggy Stardust

First one gets an unfair rap, second one is one of those albums that gets better the more I listen to it.

I've been digging Gregor Samsa. It's lush, dreamy post rock.

Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not

^^This is great, can't believe I ignored it for so long.

as opposed to all that abrasive, frightening post rock

What made you like it suddenly?

Kyle 10-15-2006 11:54 AM
What made you like it suddenly?
Just been dancing to them a lot in pubs and clubs, and having a great time. And I had never heard the whole album until a few weeks ago, there's some great album tracks here.

I love Riot Van.

The Cure - Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me
The Decemberists - The Crane Wife
Has anyone noticed how ballsy of a cover The Crane Wife has? Their major label debut, no text, just a small illustration with an obvious stretch towards musical icon. It feels very important.

I don't think I've EVER generated a list that is strictly rock bands like that. Weird.

I think I'm going to reset my list now. College and all that.

Haven't posted one of these for a while, but I particularly like the top two, so, there you go.

Seems to have not registered all my plays of The Blue Yusef Lateef last night, though. Incidentally, don't suppose anyone here's heard the new remasters of Eastern Sounds? I haven't, wondering if there's much difference.

RicheyIs4Real 10-15-2006 05:50 PM

listening to latter day mary chain stuff, paticularly the song 'cracking up'

Zappa 10-15-2006 05:51 PM

Maybe I'll pick that up (Eastern Sounds), I don't already own a copy. I didn't know there was a new re-release.

I don't have a copy either, it always seems to be unavailable/expensive wherever I go to look for it. This new one's all easy to find and cheap and stuff, which is helpful. Don't want to get it only to find that this Van Gelder guy has ruined it somehow, though.
I particularly like your 5s and 7. Have you heard any of the Nightmare Before Christmas covers? They're a bit :-/
No, I haven't heard any of them yet. I don't have high hopes, though :( Have you heard my 3? They're a pretty good, sleazy rock band that I kinda got into through the Wildhearts years ago. They broke up a while back, though.

Eliminator 10-15-2006 06:20 PM

i like the fall out boy one

Bartender 10-15-2006 06:34 PM

My connection's alright, except that it hates myspace. Rarely works for playing songs. Worked alright just now, though, for a couple of songs at least. Fall Out Boy's was suprisingly good actually, yeah, probably because it's a fairly straight cover of the song. The only other one I managed to listen to before it died was Kidnap the Sandy Claws, which was awful :(

I didn't know there were Wildhearts folk on metal sludge. I think I remember there being an interview with Ginger there that I read, though.

Rudy Van Gelder is the greatest jazz engineer ever.
