a lot of his material is very thought-provoking

blockhead can you just man up and admit that you dont like the genre of rap

blockhead_ 01-03-2011 03:16 PM

i chose that because he's your favorite rapper or whatever.

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:16 PM

lol not really

blockhead_ 01-03-2011 03:17 PM

okay are any of these mainstream rappers as thought provoking as dead kennedys

thespacekitty 01-03-2011 03:18 PM

implying the dead kennedys are thuoght provokingg

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:18 PM

t.i. has some incredibly thought-provoking lyrics, which you'd know if you'd ever listened to his albums

dismissing his lyrics because he has songs about money is like dismissing the dead kennedys as shock rock because they have a song called "i kill children"

Kaiwaz 01-03-2011 03:19 PM

wtf is wrong with the Dead Kennedy's...

lol blockhead now you're just being a retard

blockhead_ 01-03-2011 03:22 PM

how is rapping about money bitches and cars even remotely intelligent?

2muchket! 01-03-2011 03:22 PM

Aakon_Keetreh 01-03-2011 03:23 PM

Ever had one of them days wish you would have stayed home
Run into a group of niggas who gettin' their hate on
You walk by, they get wrong, you reply then shit get blown
Way out of proportion way past discussion
Just you against them, pick one then rush them
Figure you get jumped here that's next
They don't wanna stop there now they bustin'

Now you gushin', ambulance rushin'
You to the hospital with a bad concussion
Plus you hit four times but it hit yo spine
Paralyzed waist down and ya wheelchair bound
Never mind that now you lucky to be alive
Just thinkin' it all started fussin' wit three guys
Nigga pride in the way but your pride is the way you can fuck
Around get shot down any day

Niggas die everyday, all little bullshit
Dope money, dice games, ordinary hood shit
Could this be cuz of hip-hop music
Or did the ones with the good sense not use it?
Usually niggas don't know what to do when they back against the wall
So they just start shootin'
For red or for blue or for blow I guess
From Bankhead at the old projects

No more stress, now I'm straight
Now I get it, now I take time to think
Before I make mistakes just for my family stake
That part of me left yesterday
The heart of me is strong today
No regrets I'm blessed to say the old me dead and gone away

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:26 PM

blockhead, for one thing, you're missing the point of rap. you're claiming that music has to have thought-provoking lyrics (whatever that means) to be good? most rap is based off of wordplay, meter, and flow. it's not about what you say, but how you say it - the poetic devices, etc., used. you're just imposing ridiculous false standards.

and really, what does "thought-provoking" mean? does it mean that it is relevant to social issues? because i've heard a lot of witty lines and verses relating to getting money and getting women that i don't even realize until 5 seconds after the fact. is that not thought provoking? or does it have to be about politics to be witty?

blockhead_ 01-03-2011 03:26 PM

living in the ghetto is hard

2muchket! 01-03-2011 03:28 PM

If it ain't thought provoking in the same way as killing in the name, then it's p much SHALLOW

and POINTLESS

songs about POWER and SEX are pretty POINTLESS

witchxrapist 01-03-2011 03:28 PM

bros

scene love and unity

all i said was that it's shallow. rapping about material possessions is obviously shallow. i don't think it's a stretch to say that songs about politics take more thought and understanding of the world than songs about hoes and niggas

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:29 PM

what does "talking about hoes and niggas" even mean

and yes, that is a stretch. what is it about politics that is inherently more intelligent than commenting on everyday life?

publicastration 01-03-2011 03:29 PM

not necessarily

immortal technique raps about political stuff but his rhyme schemes are pretty simplistic and boring

blockhead_ 01-03-2011 03:30 PM

immortal technique is a fucking idiot

Kaiwaz 01-03-2011 03:30 PM

At least Tupac rapped about getting out of the hood, this new garbage is about flashing off cars, gold chains and bitches. To walk with an insolent air isn't something to be proud of.

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:30 PM

have you never heard the song "i get around"

you're reducing 2pac to something he's not

case in point

BUT HES POLITICAL SO HE MUST BE THOUGHT PROVOKING

owned

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:33 PM

there is no reason that a punk song about rebelling against the system should be in any way considered inherently more intellectual or deep than a pop song about love

blockhead_ 01-03-2011 03:33 PM

intelligent lyrics about politics are thought provoking. unedeucated niggers rapping about conspiracy theories is retarded

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:34 PM

you're cherry picking. just because the dead kennedys have many well-written songs doesn't mean that punk as a whole does. similarly, because, say, soulja boy has poorly written songs doesn't mean that hip hop as a whole does.

blockhead_ 01-03-2011 03:35 PM

i didn't say punk as a whole had well written songs. i said the majority of rap is shallow.

MAN

publicastration 01-03-2011 03:35 PM

so you don't believe you can have a well written song about hoes?

Kaiwaz 01-03-2011 03:35 PM

I'm with blockhead on this one

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:37 PM
i didn't say punk as a whole had well written songs. i said the majority of rap is shallow.

STRAW

saying that the majority of rap is shallow is just completely ridiculous

you really shouldn't make judgments about genres you don't listen to

publicastration 01-03-2011 03:37 PM

majority of mainstream rap is pretty bad/shallow etc

mitch will prob disagree with me

blockhead_ 01-03-2011 03:38 PM
so you don't believe you can have a well written song about hoes?
well written, i guess. intelligent, i doubt it

illmitch 01-03-2011 03:38 PM

define intelligence

the latin poet catullus wrote invective poems maligning his ex-lover lesbia

is he shallow and stupid

publicastration 01-03-2011 03:38 PM
well written, i guess. intelligent, i doubt it
uhhh

so how does well written not = intelligent?
