Perhaps the reason we suck at it is because our educational systems suck at teaching it? I took two years of French, but stopped because I learned more about the language on the internet than I did in class. Also, so few people in my school took the class and the few who did only took it because all the Spanish classes were full and weren't very enthusiastic about it. Therefore, I couldn't practice speaking it with anybody outside of class, so it was a lot harder than it should have been. I feel like I got cheated out of learning foreign languages at my school.
It's because of the English speaking people attitude : "We speak English, most Important language ever, just let everyone else learn it, we don't need to learn others."

Shame for the people who really like to learn something new.

On the whole language thing, I can explain it for Americans. America during almost all of it's existance up until during and after WW2 was an isolationist country. It never wanted to go to war, and just minded it's own business. After the fear of the communism spread and Harry Truman passed his Doctrine saying that they will make sure to stop the spread of communism blah blah blah, it ended our isolationism. Now we aren't isolationist, but we still have the same attitude. We still don't want to do anything with other countries, and have no interest in their language. Sad really. I find other languages kind of interesting.

I didn't know they were releasing a movie of that. Sounds great. The books are classics.

:upset: I ordered A Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy almost two weeks ago from the Library Network, because my local library doesn't have it. It still hasn't arrived yet. :upset:

I love power metal. It's great how a lot of classic rock fans and metal heads love it.

Oh boy...I'm not good on the genres. But I do like a lot of metal (many different kinds).

I don't expect everyone to be able to recognize all the genres. Poeple who go crazy and flame the living shit out of people who give a band the wrong genre piss me off.

I haven't heard them. What are they like?

Cain 02-17-2005 08:27 PM

I don't listen to much power metal aside from Nightwish or Blind Guardian, so I have little basis for comparison...they're not very much like either of them. They're really good though. They have a good singer, nice vibrato, powerful but doesn't bellow. Their main creative force is the lead-guitarist/keyboardist, and the music is, dare I say it, very catchy. There's a great pop sense to this power metal band, I think. Good guitar solos (would one expect anything less? :) ) and gigantic, sing-along choruses are these guys' specialities.

That's such a good song that I had to double post just to tell you about it.

RiceMonster 02-17-2005 08:29 PM

Sounds like something I'd love. I'll check them out when I get a chance.

I'm going now. bye all.
