I think alot of people would object to having to purchase/borrow the material as well, instead of just being able to download it.

Eitri Is Berserk 02-06-2005 06:32 PM

Eleventeen, are those books you were talking about (something about dark elves) anything like The Lord of The Rings? That is my favorites series ever.. I'd kind of like to get into more stuff like that. The movies were fairly good too.
What are the issues that are considered when creating a sub-forum?

I can't see what the problem is with creating one even if the demand isn't that huge.

Then again I don't run one of the biggest forums on the internet, so I don't know a lot about this.
Well it's not up to me in the end, it'd be up to MX. I don't know his exact reasoning (having never directly talked to him), but he doesn't want too many forums all over the place.

I agree with it, in so far as I'd rather not see discussion further segregated, but I don't know if that's anything like his basis.

Yeah, a lot like LOTR, yet extremely different. They all have Kingdoms of Elves/Dwarves, and in a few, Orcs are bad guys/evil wizards and such. A lot of it is Tolkien influenced, but then weird interpretations, and more in depth, cause the authors aren't dying half way through writing the series.

To a certain degree I think it'll be the same as having sub-forums for all the music Genres.
The (temporal) gap between posts would probably be quite large, yeah.
I'm guessing like 3 days at most.... well at least that's how long it takes me, no matter how long/short the book is.

It could be one hundred pages, and I'll be like.... gotta finish this in 3 days, and I'll read about 40 pages a day or so, or a 900 pager and read 300 pages a day .

Tolkien wrote his books in the 50's, he died in the 70's. He didn't die half way through.. :) I read a biography on him. His son published The Silmarillion after he died though. A few others also..

The history of Middle Earth books might have been in progress, I don't know about that. But The Silmarillion was written even before The Hobbit. I read that somewhere.

Bartender 02-06-2005 06:47 PM

To be honest, I started reading the Lord of the Rings books and just found his writing style so insufferable and unreadable. Fantastic story, but it was a real struggle to plough through it :(

I don't think you'd want that, my upload is god aweful, ask KornedBeef and The Grand Chalupa, they've both experienced this.

Yea, I couldn't get through the LOTR books either....

Anyone read the Wheel of Time Series?

Idk if they've been mentioned yet

Did you ever try reading The Hobbit? It is more oriented to children, so its not quite as confusing. Not that your reading level is that of a child, but his stuff is kind of hard to get through, takes a few reads to grasp everything thats going on, probably for even the most advanced readers.

I find it like that sometimes too, but I realize that it's written at such a creative level, and it's done so originally... that's why I love it!

Seriously he has every chapter with a climax of it's own, as well as a climax for the whole book, and then the whole series, it's crazy.

I read that series. It's awesome. I am thinking about re-reading it, because I read it so long ago, and liked it so much.

I've heard of it, I started reading one of em, but then I lost track of the book. It was the first one, I think. Are they good?

Yeah, I borrowed the Hobbit (picture edition, hurrah) from a library when we went on holiday, and read it. That was fine. I mean actually the LotR books.

As an aside, it turned out that the length of the holiday was greater than the borrowing period from this particular library.

I can't remember right now, but I think I finished what was written of the series at the time, but I also think he was coming out with another one. I think I am going to re-read them.

I wish I read more, but I don't have a lot of time during the school year, at least not for books of my choice.

blockhead was banned 02-06-2005 06:55 PM

When I read books I read a lot of biographies. I'm reading one about Bruce Campbell right now, its good.
