See, I knew there was a reason why you hadn't posted
I was in the Middleofnowhere, Massachusetts.

I just downloaded In Flames- Dialouge with the Stars and it's a great instrumental. Metallica should do one like it. Only 3 minutes, some very cool but not difficult or complex solos, and some nice easy riffs (fun to listen to, finally one to learn)

rip-metal_rules 08-14-2005 03:04 PM

You know,I'm sort of happy that Dave was kicked out. If that hadn't happened, there would be no Megadeth and I love Megadeth. It's cool how "Hangar 18" sounds like "The Call of Ktulu".

I'm very happy. I like the Kirk stuff with Metallica than any of the Dave stuff. Dave headed it towards a more thrashy band, which I don't like as much. If it was this thrashy I would have never gotten into Metallica. Since, I've gotten into thrash (like KEA) and so I've grown to like Megadeth too

geezer6970 08-14-2005 03:21 PM

Whats the best metallica album in your guys' opinion?

Joe 08-14-2005 03:22 PM

I like Ride the Lightning the most because it has my favorite songs on it, except Master of Puppets has more good songs on it. So it's a toss up for me

Six Foot Revolver 08-14-2005 03:26 PM
Whats the best metallica album in your guys' opinion?
Ride The Lightning followed by Master Of Puppets

TojesDolan 08-14-2005 03:30 PM

Ride the lightning has it's great moments, and Master of puppets has a lot of energy, but Kill 'em all is both. But in personal taste, MoP wins the bet.

heavy metal kid 08-14-2005 04:30 PM

Ride the Lightning, it's their best album, lots of energy, great solos, good basslines.

Chu 08-14-2005 05:29 PM

Ride The Lightning!

I love it, best album ever in my opinion :)
Great bass lines, great rhythm, great lead, and James' best vocals (Well, it's really a tie between Ride and Master for vocals imo)

Not one song on this album I skip!

Then I'd say No Life 'Til Leather, Master of Puppets and Kill 'em All.

It's funny you should mention that because Dave originally WROTE The Call of the Ktulu.

I read the credits on my guitar tab book and was floored.

Chu 08-14-2005 05:53 PM

Hence why they sound similar?
Dave wouldn't have stolen a Metallica riff/song...

Joe 08-14-2005 07:06 PM
Hence why they sound similar?

That's the last thing he would have done. But some songs sound familiar just because he worked with James and because he wrote some of the Metallica songs
Great bass lines, great rhythm, great lead, and James' best vocals (Well, it's really a tie between Ride and Master for vocals imo)
Ok...

Bass
1) MOP
2) KEA
3) RTL

Lead
1) RTL
2) KEA
3) MOP

Rhythm
1) MOP
2) KEA
3) RTL

Vocals (Black album would be #1, but I'm only doing the cliff albums)
1) MOP
2) RTL
3) KEA

Rhythm
1) MOP
2) KEA
3) RTL
MOP seems a little monotone imo, RTL has more changing riffs, hear Trapped Under Ice.

PepsiMetal 08-14-2005 08:20 PM

A few months I would have said best metallica album is AJFA, KEA or MoP but I like RTL alot now and that's what my favorite metallica album is. Second would probably be KEA.

Black album is also pretty good, lots of good songs there although none are as thrashy as KEA, and RTL stuff, but I really dont care about that. As long as songs kick ass I like it.

Britton 08-14-2005 08:24 PM

Hey what about the Black album...? it's got great singing

in my opinion it's

RTL
KEA
MOP
AJFA
BA
ST. ANGER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great minds thinkalike!!!!!!!!!

Larry LaLonde 08-14-2005 08:59 PM

i think kill em all is the best, just because of one song...ANESTHESIA!!!!!!!!! never really liked the first album...not all of it. i dunno what it was and it didnt matter what i did, i couldnt get into it. but i liked everything up to the black album. after that it was no more for me...except garage days! garage was the best. my favorite. thats right, screw anesthesia, i hate it now.

Chu 08-14-2005 08:59 PM

I'd say Through The Never has a sort of MoP feel to it, anyone else agree?
It's hard to explain, it's not quite MoP quality, but it's getting there.

Edit: I love Anesthesia, I have a really good quality version of Live Anesthesia and he plays straight into For Whom The Bell Tolls (And keeps his distortion on for the whole song  ), I also have a version where about half-way through he does the US Anthem, lol

Six Foot Revolver 08-14-2005 09:00 PM

its weird. i like anesthesia. its great, i like it that much. i liked the four horsemen, seek and destroy, and jump into the fire, but everything else i couldnt really bring myself to like.

Schecterguitarist 08-14-2005 09:28 PM

I personally like AJFA the best. I doubt most of you will agree with me but i like it becuz of the song AJFA, one, and to live is to die (may fave metallisong). I also like it becuz the guitar riffs are rly cool and they helped me become a faster down picker, which james is great at. I also luv playin all they way thru AJFA and To Live is to die, i just luv 8-10 minute songs, those are wut get me; how 10 or 12 some riffs can all combine together and still sound the same in harmony. Its cool how in Ajfa they use three different guitars each an interval above eachother (not sure wut kind but i thnk a Perfect 5th (a power chord)).

Try this dudes, learn to play the call of ktulu all they way thru and MOP (the song) all the way thru and play them along with the S&M dvd/cd i luv it!! f***in 20 minute long tune (the two songs 2gether, ktulu moves right into MOP).......o yah dont forget to tune down a half step becuz all of S&M is a half step down

i already did that, but i was playing bass, i have a bit trouble with COK on guitar.

It doesn't hold a candle to MOP or ...AJFA

Joe 08-14-2005 09:35 PM
MOP seems a little monotone imo, RTL has more changing riffs, hear Trapped Under Ice.
oh i've heard it, over and over (along with all their other songs). yes the RTL rhythm is more diverse, I just like the MOP stuff better

AJFA is my recent favorite. I've been listening to it like crazy lately. To Live Is To Die is my favorite instrumental of theirs (I consider it one, even though technically it isn't). And yes, playing songs back to back from a live concert is fun. And also thanks for typing more normally.

I'm still just getting down the end to One. I can play it all, just the end i've been working on speed. I finally almost got it (6 open e's before the rest and etc)

Chu 08-14-2005 09:40 PM

I'm thinking of learning MoP, I can do James' little interlude, no chance on Hammett's part though, and just never really bothered learning anything else.

yah One is amazing u kno i never told anyone this is in thread but, my school band did the S&M version of one. We're a little onorthodox cuz we hav 4 guitarists in it but our teacher likes to bend the rules a little (hes a genius and his fave band is the Murphys!). So anyway, the lead guitarist introduced it and al four guitars auditioned for rythm and he chose me to play rythm (sweet!). It was amazing, everyone fukin luved it, excpet for the d-bags that are into rap, and it was so much fun. We played thru the entire song including the tapping solo and the guiatr duet which we made a trio by adding a bass part to it!!! I actually bought my newest guitar (Schecter Elite) for it cuz i wasnt going to use a stratocaster to play metallica...LIVE!!! So i ges i can credit that to y i luv the AJFA the best

O yah, at the dubl time part (wen james says livin this life in hell) he play eigth notes insted of sixxteenth note triplets metallica does live

The interlude is pretty easy. Sounds good when played correctly. Hammett's part I haven't tried, but I don't feel like trying :|

Hammett used a Strat recording One :D

Schecterguitarist 08-14-2005 09:52 PM
Hammett used a Strat recording One :D
Im not sure if it is but it has the same features as a strat but i thik it says ESP on the stockhed, plaus he doesnt use a strat live wen he plays one :D

6stringslinger 08-14-2005 09:57 PM

i heard that was an ESP

Chu 08-14-2005 09:58 PM
The interlude is pretty easy. Sounds good when played correctly.
It isn't the hardest thing I know, that's for sure.
But yeah it does sound good. :)

I'm not really extremely fast with my left hand (Fretting hand), I was in a car accident and blah blah, left side paralysis etc.
So.. Yeah, but I'm trying, I can do some stuff like For Whom The Bell Tolls (Solo? Interlude? Whatever), so I'm not that slow.

JonG 08-14-2005 10:05 PM

He played a strat in the video :P

Schecterguitarist 08-14-2005 10:08 PM

Well wen i was first startin out on guitar i use to half *** songs on guitar like in MOP i would strum the low E in the vreses of the song and alternate pik on the main riff cuz it was easier and now with 6 years of guitar, i play MOP much better with all down piking now and i hav almost got the solo 100% perfect (mayb 82% right now). Hardest song ive ever learned to play (ability fast piking) is damage inc, pain in the *** to master it

Schecterguitarist 08-14-2005 10:10 PM
He played a strat in the video :P
alright alright so he plays the "strat" (its an ESP so idk wut they call it) on the video and the recording but an ibanez or an esp with 2 humbuckers live, thats y i bought the Schecter Elite for my school bands live sho

Britton 08-14-2005 11:00 PM

Yea I think in Cliff e'm all he used a strat...not sure though.
Today at hp bookstore I got a book called nothing else matters it's about
all the songs and their insparation..lot's of funny pictures too!

You wanna trade that for a early version of fade to black>?

Ive been learning that and the four horsemen the last week!
My band is doing two covers of Tallica for whom the bell tolls
and s@d (easy one's)

Chu 08-14-2005 11:11 PM

I doubt there's a Metallica recording floating around I don't have

Joe 08-14-2005 11:25 PM

The Four Horsemen didn't take long at all for me to learn, I just need to learn the first solo.

Chu: I don't have many... I have their old stuff, 3 concerts, and 4 produced concerts...

Chu 08-14-2005 11:28 PM

I have so much Metallica stuff, nearly every cover I can find too.
Heaps of Live videos, live sound recordings, not much as far as shirts etc go thoough... 3 posters, 2 shirts, 1 jumper etc. Although one of the posters is a fabric poster which is awesome.
