What if they pull an Opeth and do a mellow album and a heavy album. I think that would be awesome.

ytsedrummer 04-06-2005 07:52 PM

But that would just be copying Opeth. And then if they DID do that, everybody would be bitching and complaining that Metallica copied Opeth. Metallica should just do their own thing.

That only worked with Deliverence and ****ation and I think it should stay that way.

It could still be mellow and not sound like Opeth you know.

metal_milita 04-06-2005 08:22 PM

btw, I made a post a while back that I was inspired by MOP to write a song similarly structured (not intentionaly, but I realized it later)
here it is

Huber 04-06-2005 08:35 PM

That's incredibly similar to MOP

metal_milita 04-06-2005 08:39 PM
That's incredibly similar to MOP
ya sorta made me really unproud of that song all of a sudden because I was wondering why it sounded so good to me. The actual music is not similiar, but the structure is almost a complete rip off
What if they pull an Opeth and do a mellow album and a heavy album. I think that would be awesome.
Yeah, but not make it to much like Opeth, so they dont sound like posers.

dementedbassist 04-06-2005 09:55 PM

Robert Trujillo is the best bassist ever.

Look at avatar.

Leper 04-07-2005 12:39 AM

He's definitely not the best ever but he's pretty **** good.

blue3 04-07-2005 12:53 AM

Yeah he's a great bassist

hammet_ownz 04-07-2005 03:40 AM

fast fingers. dear god hes quick. battery <faints>

DisposableHeroes 04-07-2005 04:29 AM
nope, it was definately because of the tuning. kirk said it himself in an interview.
Actually, and in this is in his own words "It would take away from the callaborative nature of the songs"

To sandtrap: It's suicidalmonkeybutler@hotmail.com, i didnt come up with it so dont give me those looks :p

Kyle 04-07-2005 05:04 AM
what do you mean kirk didnt have much to do with it? he co-wrote every song? he had a few solos but lars and kirk didnt like them with the drop C tuning.
I just think that his presence isn't felt on St Anger. You can hear the drums, rythem and bass guitar really loudly but Kirk just seems crowded out. I think alot of it comes from the powerful new sound in the album and perhaps he just isn't a strong enough character to let himself be heard. I'm pretty sure Kirk wanted solos in that album, but he seemed to get persuaded otherwise.

that, and the tuning.

vashts80 04-07-2005 10:07 AM
fast fingers. dear god hes quick. battery <faints>
Cliff played that with fingers as well...it's not actually that hard to train your fingers to be faster.

Edit: This isn't to bash Rob btw, Robzilla is my inspiration besides Steve Harris. However, people give Rob credit for playing Battery with fingers when Cliff did it too. :x

Sandtrap 04-07-2005 10:20 AM

Cliff is my hero! I have to god for letting him die...lol!

Mazeppa 04-07-2005 10:47 AM
I have to god for letting him die
That doesn't make sense to me :-/

heavy metal kid 04-07-2005 10:51 AM
He's definitely not the best ever but he's pretty **** good.
He's one of the best, but Cliff was better 'cause he has that balance between heavyness and melodic music.

metalcritter666 04-07-2005 11:02 AM

is it just me or did metallica treat jason like shit?

Huber 04-07-2005 11:54 AM

I think it went both ways. They weren't very fair with him, and he wasn't very fair with them.

Didn't make sense to me either

Huber 04-07-2005 12:05 PM

Didn't you hear? God is a verb now. Been awhile since I've godded.

DisposableHeroes 04-07-2005 12:30 PM
I think it went both ways. They weren't very fair with him, and he wasn't very fair with them.
How was he not fair with them?

mogzay 04-07-2005 01:03 PM

Sandtrap 04-07-2005 01:08 PM
