Tool, or Deftones?

Basically, I'm surrently obsessed with both. :p

Semi-Tool-related- I almost astrally projected on Thursday night.

I was talking about Deftones...I thought you hated Tool?

1) What is astral projection, in a nutshell?

2) How did you do that?

Dried Muffin Remnants 09-10-2005 10:04 PM

Lucid dreaming is about as far as I go with that stuff. I love when I can control my dreams.

Syncratic 09-10-2005 10:04 PM

I posted a song in the lyrics forum.......I'd greatly appreciate any comments, if you're willing.

Yeah, Tool are about as musically good as listening to jail rape. Gawd.

1) Basically, you get your astral body to leave your phsyical body. Basically the real life "matrix" where your inhibitions are null. You can go anywhere, do anything, etc..

2) See: Meditation 102. Go to the politics subforum in the pit. There are some very good informative posts in there. I'll grab a link, but if you get to it before me, read the first page, and read the links.

What is lucid dreaming? Maybe I should get in on some of this stuff. It sounds interesting, to say the least.

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-10-2005 10:22 PM

Lucid dreaming is basically a dream where you're in control of the events that happen. Again, read this thread for some insight on how to control your dreams. First few pages will have some info on it. Look for "The dot method."

Kage 09-10-2005 10:35 PM

This is wild...you say you've almost astrally projected? How long did it take you to get to that point?

I think I need a stress reliever in my life, maybe this will do the trick.

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-10-2005 10:42 PM

I've been practicing for about two weeks. Usually for half an hour to forty-five minutes at a time, but when I partially got out, it took about eighty minutes of meditating.

Kage 09-10-2005 10:45 PM

80 minutes of meditating? I still have no idea how to actually do it, but I'm still early in the thread.

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-10-2005 10:48 PM

You just lay there, trying to clear your mind, focusing your mind on certain things. I usually float back from concentrating on trying to see with my third eye, trying to make my limbs go numb(mainly by just holding them still for so long), and that extremely high pitched whistle in your head. Just read up on it, let it soak in, and try it.

Dude3 09-10-2005 10:49 PM

I want to Astral Project soooooooo bad. I'm just not totally sure how to do it.

Like, what am I suppost to be doing to make it happen? How should I practice? What state of mind do I need to be in?

I have a good idea so far, but I'm still confused. I did get really close one time, listening to the song "Lateralus" while I was falling asleep. I started getting a tingling sensation, which was VERY awkward. Then I started feeling numb from my legs and upwards.

Syncratic 09-10-2005 10:49 PM

Is there anything that enables communication telepathically? I'd love to try that.

Also, "Sunshine" is still up in SW&L.

Dr. Jake Destructo 09-10-2005 10:55 PM

Nah, I doubt you would have gotten out while listening to music. When you're having an out of body exprience, you're more relaxed than you are when you're sleeping. This means no stimulant of any kind. :p Complete silence, no distractions are musts.

Kage- Which Deftones album should I get next? I like the cover of Around the Fur. :naughty:

Dude3 09-10-2005 10:56 PM

Now that I think of it, I think I did get MUCH closer to projecting about a year ago. I was listening to a lot of Tool, and getting into a whole lot of cool science stuff because of my teacher. I was also really reading up on Lucid dreams and OBE's.

Here's what happened:
I was going to bed(probably very late), and I started having a dream. I guess it was somewhat lucid though, because I knew that I was dreaming. In the dream, there were 3 people sitting in one of those "test" astronaut things(the machine that spins around extremely fast). It started running, and suddenly stopped. The guy in the middle of the 3 flew foward, and hit the front glass of the machine.

I then noticed that I had an extremely intense "tingling" sensation. I didn't really feel one with myself. I freaked out! I tried moving, but I couldn't. I think I was in sleep paralysis(which can follow an OBE). I couldn't even open my eyes. That's how lifeless my body was functioning.

I think I either did, or got really close to projecting that night.

Darkness 09-10-2005 10:56 PM

I use to be so into this stuff... I kinda have had a falling out the past couple of months. I think that thread is my inspiriation to get into it again. I'm definatly messing around tonight...

Kage 09-10-2005 11:06 PM

I definately recommend Around the Fur. It's more raw and less experimental than White Pony,b ut songs like Be Quiet and Drive, Lotion, Dai The Flu, My Own Summer, and Mascara are absolutely amazing.

Sounds like I'll have to dedicate some real time to astral projection...I really wish I had gotten into this over the summer when I had nothing but time to waste. I think I'll wet my feet with lucid dreaming, though.

EDIT: On Deftones, Around the Fur is the next album you should get if you want the raw, heavy stuff with some good atmospheric and soft stuff thrown in. S/T next if you want a darker, more atmosphere-driven album.

Thank you User "Txus" and User "Maynard James Keenan" for a warm welcome. Im new to this forum so im not sure about locating posts. It took me like 10 minutes just to find my last one, maybe someone can help me out. And since we're talking about Deftones, my favourite album is Adrenaline. Did you know: Adrenaline is a drug that releases excess seratonin (A hormone in the brain). Seratonin is the main hormone that makes us happy; Adrenaline is used maily as an anti depressant.

H.

I was looking at some guitar tabs for H. from Ænema the other day at mxtabs.net and it stated "Song Title: H. (Heroin.)".

For **** sakes ladies, H. does NOT stand for heroin. "H was originally titled Half Empty as it explores different views on change, but through time me and the guys thought H. was a far more apropriate title" - Maynard James Keenan of Tool.
