It's my favorite Metallica Song (harvester of sorrow)

fenderbender89 08-12-2005 01:20 PM
I think he was just saying, these days he's not as big as he was.

I mean sure nearly everyone in this post (The Metallica thread) who plays guitar is probably influenced HEAVILY by Kirk Hammett, he's just not as big as he used to be.
I play Guitar.
I am very influenced by Metallica.
Kirk and James both.
Kirk for his awesome solos and riffs and James for his riffs as well.
Seek and Destroy was my first Metallica song I learned to play full on guitar. (I can't play the solos they are too fast for me )
Great song!

lightningmetal666 08-12-2005 01:22 PM
Yea , im learnin blackened now.
I haven't really been playing metallica lately (though the other day I was showing off for my older brother by playing a sweet cover of fade to black)
because I have been trying to learn Cannibal Corpses Hammer Smashed Face and Van Halens Panama.

angusmaster 08-12-2005 01:27 PM

My fisrt song i learend all the way was enter sandman , but its one of the easiar ones i know.

fenderbender89 08-12-2005 01:27 PM

I am learning how to play the second solo in Sanitarium.
It is very cool.
I got the first solo down and just the beginning of the third solo(main)

You should guys should try learning some Cannibal Corpse. It's pretty easy if you're fast. The only catch is that they use these really weird time signatures.

zandordandor 08-12-2005 01:37 PM

Does anyone know what song is played in the background of VH1 "When metallica ruled the world" hxxp://s61.yousendit.com/d.php?id=2TVLJL8OQ8CGO1SP6XHWYR2XW8

Edit: Fixed link

Father_Jack 08-12-2005 01:45 PM

The link hath being blocked

Father_Jack 08-12-2005 01:46 PM

you need to post the link with hxxp:// at the start instead of http:// because YSI are cracking down on file sharing in forums

Chu 08-12-2005 02:22 PM

I can play Orion almost flawlessly now (I guess it gets this way when it's pretty much the only song you play for 6 months+ :upset: ) but I just wish my mates would learn their parts so we could cover it.
I have never heard a song which means as much to me, and I would LOVE to cover it.

Father_Jack 08-12-2005 02:23 PM

No, you need to re-upload it and then post it like you did, coz YSI already blocked that uplaod.

Welcome to the forums btw

fenderbender89 08-12-2005 02:27 PM

I still think Metallicas new album will have solos.

Father_Jack 08-12-2005 02:30 PM
I still think Metallicas new album will have solos.
If it don't then they are either dumb or just plain deaf to the fans and all the music critics.

Chu 08-12-2005 02:33 PM

I'd be happy if it didn't.
I mean, one or two songs would be cool to have a solo, but only if it was really appropriate and not just wah abuse.
I would love a re-release of St. Anger, back to Standard tuning, and Lars keeping his drums normal, maybe a couple of solos, but not every song needs a solo just for the sake of having one.

Endless Obsession 08-12-2005 02:34 PM
If it don't then they are either dumb or just plain deaf to the fans and all the music critics.
When you listen to what the music critics want its called "selling out". Thats not a good thing. If they want solos, they will solo. If they dont want solos, they wont solo.

Father_Jack 08-12-2005 02:37 PM

You know on St. Anger, did Kirk write alot, because he usually just wrote the solos and James took care of Riffs and lyrics. I know they all did some lyrics on St. Anger, but did kirk start doing the riffs etc as well.

Most likely because they just jammed together and whenever they heard a riff they liked they made it into a song. I doubt all the riffs were James'.

Precisely what i'm getting at, sorry for any misunderstanding guys

Jaymez did write alot of the riffs yes, As a matter of fact Kirk couldn't play an awesome riff Jaymez made up. Quite shocked me really, he was close but couldn't get the timing correct.
They all helped each other on this album, also Jaymez gave the band responsibillities of writing the lyrics also.
Jaymes normally takes care of lyrics with a little of Lars's help, he let Kirk take a role this time however.

Father_Jack 08-12-2005 04:00 PM

Yeah, i saw SKOM where kirk was like just handed a pad and expected to write lyrics and stuff. He looked pretty scared some times

zandordandor 08-12-2005 06:10 PM

One more try then :P Does anyone know the song thats being played in the background? hxxp://s58.yousendit.com/d.php?id=3HG8PZJG850KC267QNHZJMHNO4
I mean, one or two songs would be cool to have a solo, but only if it was really appropriate and not just wah abuse.
]Sorry dude but theres no way in hell kirk would put no wah pedal solo on the album its his claim to fame. Kirk says himself in a quote that "I will never stop using my cry baby, the only thing thatll stop me is if some one cut off my legs, but then i would just use my elbows!" ( i got this from a site dedicated to cliffs memory). Plus I luuuuuv the wah pedal, so i ges this is y i want it so bad (i want to be known for my wah pedal techniques WEN, not if, i go big, gotta shoot for the top of it all)

Plus someone sed that they wanted a st. anger in E standard..........dude.......thats just old school metallica from puppets and lightning, St. Anger is new school thrash done by the masters of thrash ('tallica). I wanna hear a new st. Anger album with mor wah, solos in every song!!!! cuz thats wut we refer to wen we think of great metallica songs...fade to black, kirk solos for like 2 minutes in the outro(i play lead, so i ges thats y i want the solos), and just new St. Anger based riffs......one mor thing...... i hope trujillo givs as much as possible to metallica, it seems to me that jason just filled in the 6th and 5th root notes on bass 90% of the time

Chu 08-12-2005 08:06 PM

...And that is why I think Kirk is an overrated guitarist. I honestly cannot stand his wah abuse. They should have kept Mustaine.

Edit: I prefer old skool Metallica, I don't even like ...AJFA, I would love it if they went back to their old skool thrash sound. Granted St. Anger was closer to thrash then anything since ...AJFA, it just wasn't the full bang.

Britton 08-12-2005 08:26 PM

The wah is the bomb! it's my favourite effect!

Kirk is a bit overrated but almost all professional musicans are
do yall think there is that big of a difference?

Britton 08-12-2005 08:28 PM

Oh yea my pc is a bit slow so I didn't download whatever the guy on the last
page had on it but if I remember they are playing Phantom Lord (not sure though)

if anyon else has heard it please answer the question for me

I don't listen to St.Anger a bunch but isn't all within my hands a awsome song?

lightningmetal666 08-12-2005 10:53 PM

If kirk's job is to play LEAD guitar then y weren't there any solos on St. Anger
to me the main role of a LEAD GUITARIST is to play guitar solos. That and to
stereoize (like my word) the rhythm guitarist more or less

lightningmetal666 08-12-2005 10:56 PM

I don't hardly use my wah anymore. I just like to plug straight into a marshall or line 6 half stack (though I like to sometimes use my DoD Death Metal Distortion Pedal) and
just rock out. Especially if I'm playing s**t like Sabbath or AC/DC

THaBaSSPLaYiNGMaNiaC 08-13-2005 02:41 AM
Yea man I play guitar bass and drums (I'm not that good at drums)
I don't listen to St.Anger a bunch but isn't all within my hands a awsome song?
St. Anger's a personal favourate of mine, and yes, 'All Within My Hands' is seriously underrated. 'The Unnamed Feeling' and 'Sweet Amber' are also wicked. So Tuff!!!

Solar 08-13-2005 04:55 AM

I actually thought St. Anger was a very good album. I can understand why a lot of people didn't like it because it is so different from anything else they've done, but I thought it was a lot better than the critics gave it credit for.

Jim 08-13-2005 05:14 AM

It definately is a love/hate kind of album. I just wish most people would give it a chance. There really is some musical gold on St. Anger. It's such an ugly, but honest, album.

The film "Some Kind of Monster" really clarifies the whole listening experience, too. You appreciate it far more once you see what they went through to make it.

Plus, it just rocks!

All Within My Hands is my favourite song of St. Anger. I love the bit where it stops and James shouts "ALL WITHIN MY HANDS!"

Schecterguitarist 08-13-2005 10:10 AM

Yah the St. Anger album is a lot of fun to rock out to especially certain breakdowns like in Sweet Amber the irff he plays under the lyrics "She traces me and draws me in" thats so cool. And the one in the Unnamed Feeling where james gets all pissed and yells "I wanna cry i wanna scream" its mor like a passionate fury.

My friend got me into metallica about 2 1/2 years ago but he hates st.anger and will be pissed if they make another St.Anger album (which will probly be the case). Im def buyin it and im glad to know that theres still intellegent musicians like ourselves who respect metallica and dont giv a f**k about wut negative things people say about them, just like metallica doesnt giv f**k about wut people say. ROCK THE F**K ON

Britton 08-13-2005 10:36 AM

I listened to all of St.Anger last night....I might have to get the tab book

oh yea is the book so what any good?

Schecterguitarist 08-13-2005 11:00 AM
oh yea is the book so what any good?
If your talking about So What: the good, the mad, and the ugly (which u probly are) then yes its a must have. Its filled with tons of interviews with the band and the first 30 some pages talks about Cliff and how the band feels about him. Metallica also answers fans questions with some rly funny replies the band. Theres some parts where it tells about wut they did b4 some shows and wut they did afterward. We get to know the non-musical metallica to like diving into James' luv for hunting and cars or Kirks ranching and srufing hobbies. One part shows what the band thinks about eachother (all positive opinions of course) and theres also lots of info on robert which surprised me due to his short amount of time in the band

I've been thinking about buying that book it looked like a must for big Tallica fans!
