LoneStarDrummer 01-31-2006 11:57 PM
that blows man. I hate cold showers so much, they aren't the most welcoming thing in the morning.
yeah and the bad thing is you never get used to them. i figured i would be able to take a quick one without going into shock after the first few times, but after six days of it it never got easier.

i'm registering for my dorm choice right away next year. no more of this not getting any of your three choices crap.

LoneStarDrummer 02-01-2006 12:02 AM

Win A Rabbit 02-01-2006 12:15 AM

a triple post followed by 2 double posts? holy post count batman.

well i managed to make my friend angry by telling her that christmas is a big waste of money, and a stupid tradition, etc. she spent $500 of her "savings" (money she specifically put away for car payments) on presents and now she's complaining that she has no money.

Seafroggys 02-01-2006 12:20 AM

people spend WAY too much on Christmas

I'd spend probably $100 on everybody, tops, if that

I got a $300 digital camera for christmas back in '00 (probably worth like $20 new nowadays)

Win A Rabbit 02-01-2006 12:25 AM

i spent a total of $20, in a "secret santa" thing that the girl i already talked about came up with. if it wasn't for that, i wouldn't have spent a penny.

and i asked for an mp3 player, since i was about to buy one back in november once i got some money, and my parents told me to wait, and that they'd buy it for me. i felt guilty about it, but hey, who can refuse a free mp3 player. so if you can even call that asking for one, that's all i asked for.

Double Bass Jim 02-01-2006 12:35 AM

Yeah I don't like asking for anything either, i've gotten enough over the years living at home being fed, taken care of ect ect... They never have to buy me a thing and i'd be happy

Jezen 02-01-2006 12:51 AM

i only played my practicepad for like 10 min today :(

derryk 02-01-2006 01:20 AM

I.. did nothing today. I am wearing a suit to my basketball game tonight though..

Seafroggys 02-01-2006 01:28 AM

I practiced with a new bassist tonight.....he actually does more than root notes (like our last bassist)

derryk 02-01-2006 01:30 AM

We got a new bassist, hopefully he can practice with us thursday.

Double Bass Jim 02-01-2006 01:31 AM

It's easy to get caught in that too, most starting or nonproficient guitarists start and end with root notes for everything.

Thats why it helps to know a little theory and know the notes your playing, you don't have to be slave to those types of things.

Corkofski 02-01-2006 01:42 AM

Double Bass Jim 02-01-2006 01:49 AM

For sure, nothin beats new gear!

Blank 02-01-2006 01:56 AM

It's ryanthedrummer...I finally got my name change!!!!
:D

Hey Jim....are root notes always such a bad thing?

Tim 02-01-2006 01:58 AM
For sure, nothin beats new gear!
heck yea.

IMO, If someone truly loves drumming they would be happy with anything drum related they get...even if its just to jam with other drummers. Which I do quite a lot. Crazy how my uncle has been playing since he was 3 or 4 and I still havent been able to jam with him yet. Soon though. He works nights at frito lay. free chips....usually.

Double Bass Jim 02-01-2006 02:00 AM

Hey Jim....are root notes always such a bad thing?
Na they arent but they can keep you traped in a one set mind. It's like being stuck in the major and minor pentatonic scale forever. Which alot of players are!

Corkofski 02-01-2006 02:05 AM

i dont do scales, i just choose notes that sound good...

Double Bass Jim 02-01-2006 02:07 AM

Well you are most likely playing in one not knowing it.

Blank 02-01-2006 02:07 AM

Well I play both bass and drums.
In the bands were I did play bass, root notes were great for certain parts of songs, but I found that writing an original rhythm worked better for most parts.

And thanks for the name change Jim :thumb:

Corkofski 02-01-2006 02:08 AM

hmm, i dunno... i do know theory, i was a choirboy for 8 years.

also, is it just me, or has the layout just changed?

also, pinch punch first o' the month!

Double Bass Jim 02-01-2006 02:09 AM

It's important to remember where the root notes are in improvisation, that way you won't get lost! Although if you have a good ear you shouldnt have to worry about that much.

Seafroggys 02-01-2006 02:10 AM

root notes on a bass can be good, but if they're all you use, then thats the sign of a poor bass player.

root notes tend to reinforce the chord alot, so if you want an especially powerful 'force' so to speak, root notes will do that.

Of course, if you're The Who, Townshend could supply plenty of force with his guitar alone with Entwistle wailed around on the bass like nobody's business.
