I know he says he wasn't very good at copying, but naturally I am, so me and him are different. I've also read the same thing from Matt Heafy of Trivium, preferring to learn a few things here and there whilst developing his own style. You could say my style was like Paul Gilbert since he's my overall favourite guitarist and has made me who I am today, but then copying his licks isn't my own either. I have only been playing for 4 years though. Matt has been playing since he was about 12, Alexi since 10, Gilbert since 7-9 I think, Jason Becker since 5, Malmsteen since 5, etc so I don't really feel I'm ready. That's a small portion of the reason I haven't bothered joining/starting a band.

i think thats same one but with a black bridge instead of gold.

We should do a cover of a COB song like there doing in the Nevermore thread.

MRDuCran 06-03-2006 06:28 PM

I think there's only 1 other person in here who plays drums, and I'm not sure if he has a kit at home. I know I don't. Plus, Bodom drums are hard.

AA-12 06-03-2006 07:50 PM

I do. I could probably play Bodom song but haven't tried any.

They really aren't.

MRDuCran 06-03-2006 07:55 PM

Double bass at 190-220 is.

Shattered_Future 06-03-2006 07:58 PM

I'm not talking speedwise, I'm talking patternwise. He doesn't deviate much from a standard beat.

MRDuCran 06-03-2006 08:03 PM

Oh right. Yeah that's true, he only really plays simple 3/4/6 patterns.

AA-12 06-03-2006 08:04 PM

Well, what song do you think we would do? That way I could see if I could learn it.

Shattered_Future 06-03-2006 08:04 PM

Not saying that he doesn't work well with the band though...his minimalistic style oddly works with the group.

MRDuCran 06-03-2006 08:35 PM
Well, what song do you think we would do? That way I could see if I could learn it.
Well unfortunately, alot of their songs DO have alot of double bass and fast tom fills, fast guitar solos also, and alot of their songs are 170+. Sucks 'cause I can hardly play a complete song all the way through and they're my fave band.

AA-12 06-03-2006 08:50 PM

The double bass could probably come to me, and I'm pretty sure I can do most of the fills. This will hopefully work out :)

what about downfall? i just learned most of that on keys :p
or we could do everytime i die... easy drumming

MRDuCran 06-04-2006 12:04 AM

I'd say Everytime I Die was your best bet. I hardly see anyone being able to play the Downfall solo.

I've seen Alexi play it. If that counts.

The Downfall solo is basic, just really ****ing fast. It's hard don't get me wrong, but not there is definitely harder stuff.:)

We're Not Gonna Fall solo or TL&S solo

MRDuCran 06-04-2006 01:58 AM

I know it's basic but it's the speed that makes it hard. I've said before, sure:

E-3-4-3-4-3-4 is fricken easy, but can you play it at 240bpm with semiquavers...I think not.

I think if you slowed down all Alexi's solos, you'd find they were pretty basic but because he plays most of them at like 190, it's a bitch to get them close to that speed while staying 100% accurate. This has also been proved to me by youtube.

Yup. Youtube has many bad bodom covers

MRDuCran 06-04-2006 07:07 AM

Check out this guy playing Sixpounder on drums, I like it.
The only fault I can find is he speeds up a tad during the (C-222222) bit.
His double kick is great.

AA-12 06-04-2006 07:11 AM

He has some terrible hand technique though. I feel like learning that now.

EDIT: I found a cool video of my second favorite drummer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2fYot9AjN8&search=virgil%20donati

MRDuCran 06-04-2006 08:03 AM

He got the fills out fine, I don't see what's wrong.

I used to be into Virgil Donati, not anymore though. I got over his hi-tom stuff, and stick spinning pretty quick.

I have a video of Carter Beauford playing Tripping Billies, I really like that guys' style. Chris Adler I like also. Can't really think of anymore original drummers. Most of the stuff I listen to features speed, and most people will argue if you say Derek Roddy is good, and I can't be bothered arguing over my opinion.

My friend could probally do it, and i know most on keys.

MRDuCran 06-04-2006 12:08 PM

I'd like to hear it.

Oh wait, you mean the guy who played Everytime I Die with you....?

His hand technique is the problem. His grip is tight.

Virgil has some pretty gimmickey things, but not many drummers come close to him.

I get into tons of Roddy arguements, haha.

MRDuCran 06-04-2006 12:22 PM

I'm sure he'll sort that out as he progresses.

I'm guessing you're against Roddy, purely for the fact that he's 16th s 250bpm for 3534636352466 minutes and adding random tom fills in there too??

AA-12 06-04-2006 12:42 PM

He's my favorite drummer actually, :p

MRDuCran 06-04-2006 05:11 PM

Ah right, wasn't expecting that.

yeah thats him

he just did a silent night, bodom night/downfall song for a guitar comp.

he won 3rd ****ing place because the guy who won had been playing for 26 years and the kid who got 2nd...well they just felt bad for him i guess cause he was horrible.

he's going to post the vid of him at the comp later on tonight so you'll get to see it along with me because I wasn't there.

MRDuCran 06-05-2006 04:45 AM

Well tbh, I doubt it sounded that great. I didn't like his playing on Everytime I Die and that's a slow song.

Agreed. I do the triplets in SNBN, not full speed.
