The Knife - Silent Shout

definitely making a run for top 5 of the year, if not top 3.
The Knife - Silent Shout

definitely making a run for top 5 of the year, if not top 3.
Good to hear we agree on this one. This is an amazing record.

metalicajaymz 10-03-2006 04:44 PM

yeah, I have no idea what I was thinking when I ripped on it before. What I thought was shitty MIDI-sounding production is actually pretty nuanced.

Buck 65 - Talkin' Honky Blues

Criminally underrated.

pixiesfanyo 10-03-2006 06:17 PM

Alkaline Trio - S/T, Goddammit!

Luxor 10-03-2006 06:29 PM
Alkaline Trio - S/T, Goddammit!
I haven't heard the self-titled, any good? Goddamnit and From Here To Infirmary are coo.

pixiesfanyo 10-03-2006 06:37 PM

s/t is my favorite by them.

Glitterati 10-03-2006 06:50 PM

John Coltrane - A Love Supreme

I don't know what my opinion of this is yet

Luxor 10-03-2006 07:11 PM
s/t is my favorite by them.
well than.

Tom Waits - Closing Time

I just picked this up yesterday and it's already my favourite Tom Waits album.

Little Man being Erased 10-03-2006 09:04 PM

Yeah that album is so freakin' awesome.

Zebra 10-03-2006 09:07 PM

It's good, but not anything amazing. Sometimes it fits the mood perfectly but other times it's just way to boring.

Little Man being Erased 10-03-2006 09:43 PM

I think I like Rain Dogs more now, but Closing Time was more of an instant hit with me.

Happymeal 10-03-2006 09:44 PM

Heatmiser - Mic City Sons

Not a big fan of Elliott but this album caught my ear when I first heard it.

Zorg 10-03-2006 09:50 PM

The Hold Steady - Seperation Sunday.

mr_jackalope 10-03-2006 10:10 PM
It was the first Tom Waits album I heard and it's still the only one I've heard that's consistently great. The whole mood, everything, it just sounds perfect to these ears, I guess.
I think only Alice tops it in that respect. Closing Time is a nice, cohesive listen.

Now playing: Galaxie 500 - On Fire

metalicajaymz 10-03-2006 10:11 PM

The National - Alligator

album is just absolutely great. I really want to give them another chance in concert now.

sr800bkBassist 10-03-2006 10:13 PM

North of America- "Elements of an Incomplete Map"

so good.

mr_jackalope 10-03-2006 10:37 PM

Alligator might be my favorite album ever or something retarded like that.

Well maybe not ever, but definitely of the millenium so far.

metalicajaymz 10-03-2006 10:49 PM

Jackalope what do you say about the other National albums?

mr_jackalope 10-03-2006 11:12 PM

Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers is the only other one that comes close, and I enjoy that one immensely as well. It's a much more subdued, alt. country record. "Fashion Coat" and "It Never Happened" are definitely among their high points.

Cherry Tree is a good prequel to Alligator, though it's not necessarily a great listen as a whole. The songs themselves are much stronger than the EP, if that makes any sense.

The National is pretty weak compared to the rest--they're really pushing the country thing here, and it's obvious that it's their first album. They didn't tour the material beforehand, it was released right after they got together, and I think that's its main weakness. It's unfinished.

I think if the b-sides to Alligator (You've Done it Again Virgina, Driver Surprise Me, The Thrilling of Claire, and Keep it Upstairs) were put together as an EP, it would rival nearly everything they'd released before. These guys consistently amaze the hell out of me.

metalicajaymz 10-03-2006 11:15 PM

it seems I have some illegal pirating to do!

perhaps even purchasing after that!

mr_jackalope 10-03-2006 11:20 PM

Spending money's a statement, baby. I wish I had some to do that with.

Fuck now I'm listening to the National. I'd been taking a break for the last few weeks so it didn't get ridiculous and now I'm fucking back on the drip again.

metalicajaymz 10-03-2006 11:42 PM

yeah I've listened to Alligator for the greater portion of the day.

but now:

Jesse Malin - The Heat

this guy is not bad at all, if you like Ryan Adams and Uncle Tupelo and all that crap.

mr_jackalope 10-03-2006 11:45 PM

Well I do like me some Uncle T and Ryan when he does country, maybe I'll check it out.

Little Man being Erased 10-04-2006 12:09 AM
Jesse Malin - The Heat

Yeah Jesse Malin is ok. I saw him live once too. Him and Ryan Adams formed a punk band called The Finger a few years ago. Their album was called We Are Fuck You.

metalicajaymz 10-04-2006 12:20 AM

that is a great album title on many different levels.

metalicajaymz 10-04-2006 12:33 AM

Ryan Adams - Cold Roses

damn, this is really good. I am in a very slight alt-country phase right now.

Little Man being Erased 10-04-2006 12:41 AM

Finally. Good work nacho.

sgrevs 10-04-2006 12:58 AM

Lupe Fiasco - Food and Liquor

I like it.

also:

Jose Gonzalez - Veneer

this guy is damned good.
