The Knife - Silent Shout
definitely making a run for top 5 of the year, if not top 3. |
The Knife - Silent Shout
definitely making a run for top 5 of the year, if not top 3.
Good to hear we agree on this one. This is an amazing record. |
yeah, I have no idea what I was thinking when I ripped on it before. What I thought was shitty MIDI-sounding production is actually pretty nuanced.
|
Buck 65 - Talkin' Honky Blues
Criminally underrated. |
Alkaline Trio - S/T, Goddammit!
|
Alkaline Trio - S/T, Goddammit!
I haven't heard the self-titled, any good? Goddamnit and From Here To Infirmary are coo. |
s/t is my favorite by them.
|
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
I don't know what my opinion of this is yet |
s/t is my favorite by them.
well than. |
Tom Waits - Closing Time
I just picked this up yesterday and it's already my favourite Tom Waits album. |
Yeah that album is so freakin' awesome.
|
It's good, but not anything amazing. Sometimes it fits the mood perfectly but other times it's just way to boring.
|
I think I like Rain Dogs more now, but Closing Time was more of an instant hit with me.
|
Heatmiser - Mic City Sons
Not a big fan of Elliott but this album caught my ear when I first heard it. |
The Hold Steady - Seperation Sunday.
|
It was the first Tom Waits album I heard and it's still the only one I've heard that's consistently great. The whole mood, everything, it just sounds perfect to these ears, I guess.
I think only Alice tops it in that respect. Closing Time is a nice, cohesive listen. Now playing: Galaxie 500 - On Fire |
The National - Alligator
album is just absolutely great. I really want to give them another chance in concert now. |
North of America- "Elements of an Incomplete Map"
so good. |
Alligator might be my favorite album ever or something retarded like that.
Well maybe not ever, but definitely of the millenium so far. |
Jackalope what do you say about the other National albums?
|
Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers is the only other one that comes close, and I enjoy that one immensely as well. It's a much more subdued, alt. country record. "Fashion Coat" and "It Never Happened" are definitely among their high points.
Cherry Tree is a good prequel to Alligator, though it's not necessarily a great listen as a whole. The songs themselves are much stronger than the EP, if that makes any sense. The National is pretty weak compared to the rest--they're really pushing the country thing here, and it's obvious that it's their first album. They didn't tour the material beforehand, it was released right after they got together, and I think that's its main weakness. It's unfinished. I think if the b-sides to Alligator (You've Done it Again Virgina, Driver Surprise Me, The Thrilling of Claire, and Keep it Upstairs) were put together as an EP, it would rival nearly everything they'd released before. These guys consistently amaze the hell out of me. |
it seems I have some illegal pirating to do!
perhaps even purchasing after that! |
Spending money's a statement, baby. I wish I had some to do that with.
Fuck now I'm listening to the National. I'd been taking a break for the last few weeks so it didn't get ridiculous and now I'm fucking back on the drip again. |
yeah I've listened to Alligator for the greater portion of the day.
but now: Jesse Malin - The Heat this guy is not bad at all, if you like Ryan Adams and Uncle Tupelo and all that crap. |
Well I do like me some Uncle T and Ryan when he does country, maybe I'll check it out.
|
Jesse Malin - The Heat
this guy is not bad at all, if you like Ryan Adams and Uncle Tupelo and all that crap.
Yeah Jesse Malin is ok. I saw him live once too. Him and Ryan Adams formed a punk band called The Finger a few years ago. Their album was called We Are Fuck You. |
that is a great album title on many different levels.
|
Ryan Adams - Cold Roses
damn, this is really good. I am in a very slight alt-country phase right now. |
Finally. Good work nacho.
|
Lupe Fiasco - Food and Liquor
I like it. also: Jose Gonzalez - Veneer this guy is damned good. |
