Vlaams!

superpeer 08-22-2007 11:10 PM
Ours were entirely in French too, they were just boring as hell. I just skipped a lot, scraped by and yeah. The only teacher I had that was any good failed me on everything because he "didn't like my attitude".

One time we had this group project. I did 95% of the work, and yet when we got our marks back 2/3 of the group got 80s, yet I had a separate mark (it was supposed to be a group mark) and I got a 40.
Hah, maybe you were a little punk. >=[
Vlaams!
Yeah, Vlaams. :p Although historically and dialectically that's not 100% correct, but whatever. It's regularly used to name our variant, so...

Not really. I mean, in my younger years, yeah, but I had behavioural problems so grade 1-7 were spent either in the office or being called an idiot by teachers who didn't know how to handle me.

When I actually tried, the teachers either assumed I was cheating or full of **** so they shrugged me off. So many negative experiences basically turned me off the language.

Nostalgia 08-22-2007 11:16 PM

I was never really sent to the office when I was younger. The only time I can think of was when I called this Mexican kid a spic, hahaha. I believe I was joking, but they didn't let me do yearbook signings. :(

This is so badass. Basically the dude found a photoseries of Toronto city pictures taken in 1977 and he went this year and reshot every corner. Start going right from that one. I donno most people probably wont care since you're not from here/havent been here.

Jacaranda 08-22-2007 11:18 PM

I got sent to the office all the time because I *was a little ****.

Ah weren't we all. I got into loads of trouble from ages 10-14 or something.

After that I was known as clever, but extremely lazy.

I had really bad violence issues when I was in grade 1-3. Having a temper and being into Power Rangers/the WWF was not a good combo. I threw a kid down the stairs, threw a chair at a kid, hit a kids face off his desk.

I dont know what the hell was wrong with me.

From grades 6-8 I was just a rude, backtalking little ****. In grade 7 our class was so out of control the teacher actually had to take a 2 week mental leave of absence.

Kage 08-22-2007 11:22 PM

rofl

superpeer 08-22-2007 11:22 PM

Haha yeah, this is why I don't want to become a teacher, kids are horrible.

Kage 08-22-2007 11:23 PM

I can't imagine why anyone would want to teach grades 6-9. It's right when kids start to think they're independent and rebellious and the shit and they're in reality just little snotty brats with baggy clothes.

I'm interested, but I can't seem to find this series beyond that one station shot.

It's on that page, you'll see horizontal rectangles next to the image, on the right. Or just click "next day".

Now I'm just opinionated. I was mean back then.

I don't know about there, and I'm not sure how old kids in grade 6-9 are, but here you need a higher diploma to teach kids from 16-18. So that's probably the reason.

We had this bit here in a fait divers show on TV and I don't know they got all the pics, but every day/week/idk they picked like a spot in a city and started in like the 20s and let it fade from year to year into present. It was crazy how everything changed.

Kage 08-22-2007 11:29 PM

The only thing I'd ever think would be cool teaching would be a college class, which obviously would be no easy task obtaining a position like that.

Tyler 08-22-2007 11:31 PM

I wouldn't mind teaching at an Alternative High School like the one I went to. The teachers got to act like peers while they taught, the school was small enough to get a more hands on and personal learning experience and I'd actually consider hanging out with them now that I've graduated. Seemed like a really fulfilling job, as opposed to the teachers I know at regular schools who are more or less miserable 24/7

superpeer 08-22-2007 11:32 PM

idk i'm not one to blabber on about the same thing for 50 minutes straight

Nice site

Tyler 08-22-2007 11:34 PM

I think that monstrosity on Yonge/Dundas is finally almost done. It's so ****ing hideous, but they've been trying to build something there for a decade so it's good to see it materialize. A great spot for a theatre too.

I was just messing around :).

Kage 08-22-2007 11:36 PM

That is a really awesome thing to do. I wish I had something like that to look at from my city.

Anglachel 08-22-2007 11:37 PM

I like our street cars back then

Jacaranda 08-22-2007 11:37 PM

They can't do that in my city everyone would look the same.

Well not really but whatever we haven't grown that much.

Kage 08-22-2007 11:38 PM

My city is constantly changing.

Houston, that is. I still don't know anything about the city I'm living in now.

Jacaranda 08-22-2007 11:40 PM

What city is that? What college you going to by the way I was just looking at some of the smaller schools in Southern Cali yesterday.

Kage 08-22-2007 11:42 PM

It's Chapman University in Orange, CA, which is just a few miles south of L.A. It's really nice, you should look into it if you're looking for schools in the area. Provided that you'd want a liberal arts education and you can afford the wildly high cost of tuition.

Tyler 08-22-2007 11:43 PM

My tuition for first semester is 400 dollars. That's without counting the 5500 in scholarships that I've yet to receive.

Lols.

superpeer 08-22-2007 11:44 PM

There are paintings of what my city used to look like 500 years ago. And back then it had already been around for centuries. According to wikipedia it's been around since the 600s. :\

Ahh, history! Beat that Americans!

Kage 08-22-2007 11:44 PM

I got a scholarship to pay for a good chunk of it and luckily my parents are willing to pay for a lot of it, and I'm personally paying about $300 a semester.
I got a scholarship to pay for a good chunk of it and luckily my parents are willing to pay for a lot of it, and I'm personally paying about $300 a semester.
I applied for a ridiculous amount of random ****. My tuition is actually around 2300 a semester but it breaks down like this

1000 a year from the school for my marks
1000 need based scholarship

repeated next semester

then i get 3500 from the government of canada, a scholarship
then 2000 for another scholarship

then i get 6000 this year from the government (loan). So I'm getting 6000 to pay off a total of 800.

So the 6000 will buy my laptop + books (possibly camera) and then I bank the rest and gain interest for when I have to pay my loan off.

I posted this mostly for my own benefit though.

Jacaranda 08-22-2007 11:48 PM

Yes to liberal arts no no no to high tuition.

You should check it out anyway, they do give out financial aid.

Anglachel 08-22-2007 11:49 PM

So someone in high school tells you how all this shit works right, 'cause tuition talk and campuses and how everythign works is lost to me

I'd hit all three chicks on the school's site. At the same time.

For me, high tuition is no problem, but liberal arts is.

Kage 08-22-2007 11:49 PM

Don't worry about it, you're only like 12 right?
I'd hit all three chicks on the school's site. At the same time.
There are some major babes here.

But that goes for any college.

Maybe its best to be ignorant right now.
Let me just tell you now that the Ontario University process is absolute hell, so prepare yourself.

Your guidance counsellors should help you but it's not impossible to handle it yourself. Basically it goes like this:

In september/october you notify the guidance department if you're applying to university/college. They put in your name and then a fwe months later they receive a username/pin number. You use this to login to the OUAC site where you insert all your info, apply to programs, etc. Then nothing happens for a while until out of nowhere you start receiving offers/denials/conditions. Then it gets crazy. It's not hell it just gets really stressful after a while.
