...why didn't you? :| I just don't understand.
I don't even know. I picked it up, looked at it, told myself I should buy it, and then put it down. I would be enjoying it right now too!

edit: I'll try to find a way to go back tommorow and try to find it.

You should have just turned your *** right around and went back in there and purchased it!

I know it. The store was having some sort of blowout too. A bunch of other Boss pedals were marked down too.

Spaceman Spiff 10-22-2006 07:58 PM

I'm supposed to be doing homework, I just can't bring myself to do it. It's something that I need to hand in tomorrow, too.

I guess I'm just having a hard time right now. Trouble being focussed and such.

Ben (No one will miss you if you give them nothing to miss.) says:
Yeah, that's the distorted bass.
BaBar Aaron *Maybe Heavens Where You Are. says:
okay is that something you do through the computer?

Why are my friends so dumb sometimes?
I'm waffling between having Jared build me an 8 or a 9. Hmm. The 9 would only be a couple hundred more overall... and I don't wanna regret not getting one later. My only concern is whether or not my hand can fit arounnd a 9 string neck.
What's your take on this?

He isn't too far from the truth.

You can put distortion onto instruments after you have recorded them cleanly. :p

He is a she, but I can't recall how many times I've explained all of this to her before.

As for your second point... do you really think she'd figure that out? :p
What's your take on this?
Base it on this:

I have heard/read that a seven string neck is about the same with as a computer keyboard. With that in mind, just think of how much the width of the neck is going to increase with the addition of one or two more strings.

HELLonWHEELS 10-22-2006 08:11 PM

I think that she could figure it out.

Same as a keyboard in width or thickness?

The thickness isn't really an issue. It's just the width. I'm going to have fairly tight string spacing, so I'm hoping to cut down on any unnecessary distance.

Figure out how big the neck would be and then cut a piece of cardboard or something to the same width to see how it feels.

HELLonWHEELS 10-22-2006 08:15 PM

I have meduim sized hands and i really want a 6 string bass. I have been able 6 necks fine, some have given me some problems at the higher notes. Is it worth it in the long run?
Figure out how big the neck would be and then cut a piece of cardboard or something to the same width to see how it feels.
Yeah. I'm 95% sure that I can handle the neck, as long as the profile isn't too uncomfortable (I'll make sure to clarify that before building commences). I really want that F# string.

Keyboard width.

Like...stand the keyboard with your spacebar facing the ceiling, and then try and fret it like you would a normal neck.
Crap, that big?
That is just what I have read from people that use seven strings, namely the Conklin GT-7's, so I am not entirely sure, but it seems about right.

What do you mean by the "higher notes"? Those should be easier to play than the lower notes seeing as they are at the bottom of the fretboard...

I don't have that big of hands, and I play a six string just fine.

Akira 10-22-2006 08:19 PM

I'm not sure if I would need an F# string. I probably would, since I used to think I would never want a B string and now I do for tapping (specifically lke a 7th position G). I like high notes more though. BEADGCFBb would be sweet. You might as well add the F# while you are at it though.

That's the idea. :) I thought about it and thought that the F# would be fantastic for ambient noise. Imagine using an e-bow on open F#? :amaze: Amazing.

123. Ultimately, proper technique overcomes neck size (to a degree, lol).

Either it would be amazing or cause serious bodily harm.

HELLonWHEELS 10-22-2006 08:26 PM

There's an active store opening up right by my house! I hope i can get ajob there. :)
Either it would be amazing or cause serious bodily harm.
Same difference. :p I wrote a song back in my early recording days (i.e. last year, ) where I detuned my B string to an F# and I really liked the effect that it gave, but I found the tone too be way to undefined after downtuning a fourth.

Pluperfect_Arson 10-22-2006 08:31 PM
123. Ultimately, proper technique overcomes neck size (to a degree, lol).
Proper technique can beat anything. :p

Unless you are just absolutely not suited to have a larger neck, then you are screwed.

Spaceman Spiff 10-22-2006 08:32 PM

I've never one to criticize or question someone for getting an ERB with that many strings, but is it totally necessary for what you do, Ben?

I guess with the looper you'll be able to come up with stuff and have that huge range...

Go big or go home, right?

But, seriously, I honestly believe I could take advantage of that range. Any with the prices that Jared offers, if I end up not liking it or it not being suitable, I'm not out several thousand dollars.

ill probably eventually move up to a 9, once the world forgets about bill dickens and his horrid playing. but getting a 9 runs the risk of everyone talking to you about bill dickens.

if i were to get a 9 string i would do alot of solo work, but since you do solo work then yeah definitley go for it.

Akira 10-22-2006 08:37 PM

Ben, you should go ahead and do it so that I can steal it.

not much bigger, and i doubt the 7 string thing, they are only 3 and half inches long at the 24th fret (from conklin) and the 5 string neck is usually just as big as the 6 (on most models)

PaulSimonon 10-22-2006 08:38 PM

Yeah, anything making ties between you and Bill Dickens is very very bad.

Especially if someone calls you a Bill Dickens wannabe...

No one around here even knows of Bill Dickens. I'm not too worried about the comparison. If people can't see my bass, they'll never be able to tell what I'm playing, anyway.

But, yeah. The more I think about it, the more enticing the idea becomes.

That's the point where you smash the person over the head with your bass. I bet 9 strings are heavy.

But then you'd get blood on the bass. Hmm, it's a tradeoff.
