Still, my favorite album is Atom Heart Mother; not the best overall, just my personal favorite.
Atom Heart Mother is great I think it's nr3 of my fav PF albums :) |
Goodbye Cruel World is about emotional withdrawal from the world, as I told the many people on MSN when they all contacted me telling me not to kill myself when I had it as my title. :p
|
lol Ill have to try that. Its ironic, if you really were going to kill yourself not many people would pick up on it.
|
in my opinion when roger and the rest of floyd was writing animals, roger was starting a "genius" phase as i like to put it, which ends after the wall tour is completed. animals is such a great album becuase of the musical quality it produces, even though the story of each song is complicated to understand. (or at least in my opinion it is)
|
I've been listening to "Paint Box" lately..."Sheep" too.
Ha, I got the name first. HA. HA HA HA. |

Actually animals was rather easy for me to understand, for me its the wall thats the trouble. |
Meddle is my favorite...
It's not as cohesive as, say, DSOTM or the Wall, but each track is individually amazing. And it has Echoes, one of the best songs ever written... |
I listened to Meddle again yesterday, it's all good man. DSOTM, WYWH, and Meddle are probably my top 3.
Also, that's the first Floyd vinyl I got. |
Is it just me, or is Atom Heart Mother incredibly awesome first thing in the morning? I always thought it was mediocre, but wow. Heh.
|
AHM is so-so for me. There are a few parts on the first track I really like (most of it actually), but I never listen to the rest of it. Doesn't do it for me.
|
figure this would be a good place to ask:
does anyone know anything about the new roger waters album? i heard somewhere that he was planning on releasing two: one politically themed, one romantically so. a release date or any info would be great.
Is it just me, or is Atom Heart Mother incredibly awesome first thing in the morning? I always thought it was mediocre, but wow. Heh.
i don't think anything can make me like Alan's Psychadelic Breakfast |
I'll Alan's Psychadelic Breakfast you in a minute. *shakes fist*
Hehe, but truly, that is the worst song on the album. And anything I've heard on Roger Water's next album(s) has been speculation, so I don't have any hard evidence to add. |
I like Pink Floyd.
|
'If' is a good song, and often overlooked, same for the title track - compared too readily to echoes, but its got a different kind of vibe; the whole horns thing. not sure about the other tracks though
and waters' website is pretty shoddy, so everything is speculation. i don't mind, as long as he releases it eventually. |
So, you like Amused To Death then?
|
i like most of his solo work. Amused To Death is my favourite, Radio Kaos tends to get a bit too 80's, and the Pros and Cons... has its moments. but yeah, love Amused To Death, one of my top three albums
|
Ah good. You are now my friend. Have a beer.
|
/has beer.
have you heard the flickering flame greatest hits thing? there's some good tracks on that; each small candle, flickering flame and an interesting cove of knocking on heavens door. sounds alot like the amused to death stuff |
I hear of alot of people hating The Final Cut album. To be perfectly honest it's really not bad, I mean, it's not quite right up at floyd standard, and it does seem to be very much The Wall pt2, but there are some great tracks on there.
Fletcher Memorial Home has a fan-bloody tastic solo, and I really like Not Now John, and The Final Cut song. Thoughts? |

One of These Days, Fearless, and Seamus are all great songs but the rest is very boring. I enjoy some of Pink Floyds slower, more psychadelic influenced songs yet A Pillow of Winds seems like a watered down folk tune and San Tropez is just a breezy, mainstream piano driven song. Although others seem to love it Echoes never really did it for me. |
One of These Days is one of my favourite Floyd tracks.
|
Me too. That bassline is intense. And the slide guitar is just sweet. What a menacing way to start off an album (at least as for as Floyd is concerned). Most of their songs don't sound to menacing, but I think that's a really good word to describe One of These Days.
I haven't heard any of Water's solo career. I'll get around to it eventually. I do have Gilmour's solo debut though. Listened to it once and wasn't impressed. I don't like Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast. If is a great song. But Fat Old Sun is my favorite off of AHM. That's what I have to add. |

Thoughts?
I got that album for Christmas five or so years ago and I really loved it, but it got boring fast. Apparently it was re-released a couple years ago with When The Tigers Broke Free on it. Speaking of that song, does anyone know if the The Wall had a Soundtrack album released at any point in time which was different from the studio release? My boyfriend is always going on about it but I'm not sure I believe him. Would be cool if there were one with Bob Geldof's vocals, and the tracks What Shall We Do Now and When The Tigers Broke Free. |

Lyrically, it's as good as any other album that Rogers wrote for. It lacked Gilmours voice at some times, which is really what decides which floyd albums I like. I think that the albums that have Roger and Dave singing and writing together are great. But the albums where Roger does everything (Final Cut) or Roger isn't even on it so Dave is doing it (Momentary Lapse of Reason) aren't as good. fake edit: that definitely was not grammatically correct. Sorry |
The Final Cut isnt bad, it's too bad that musically The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking is basically a clone of The Final Cut and The Wall
|
The Final Cut is one of my (if not my) favourites. Just floats my boat no end. What can I say? I'm a Waters tragic.
|
I havnt heard The Final Cut myself, is it alot like The Wall?
|
I havnt heard The Final Cut myself, is it alot like The Wall?
Nothing at all. IMO. |
I havnt heard The Final Cut myself, is it alot like The Wall?
The general feel to it, and some of the musical ideas, I think it's quite like it indeed. The Wall dwarfs Final Cut though. I can enjoy both albums as seperate peices, they just have shades of each other IMO. |
the final cut was originally going to be called spare bricks
|
4 srs?
I didn't know that. |
what is 4 srs
|
"For serious" I'm guessing.
|

roger waters was at a band meeting, and was the only one with any new ideas for the next album (dave gilmor and rick wright having just completed solo projects) he presented two ideas: the pros and cons of hitchhiking and the wall. the wal voted unanimously in favor of the wallproject, whereas the manager (can't remember his name) voted for pros and cons....
when the wall was being made, there were several unused tracks, ones that the band didn't feel worked in the album setting (i say band, i mean roger waters and bob ezrin, the producer). this included when the tigers broke free. these were planned to be released later under the title spare bricks however, when touching up the songs for release (...tigers had already been released on single, i think as a b-side to mother) waters was inspired by the outbreak of the faulklands war, and the project took on a life of its own, becoming very much a waters solo project. roger also went on to record pros and cons by himself, with eric clapton on guitar. |
thats the basic story anyway
|
Cool, glad that was cleared up, thanks.
NP - Dogs. God I had forgotten how amazing this song is, that riff is just...awh. They keyboard stuff around the 10 minute mark is resonably orgasmic too. |
i love that one guitar solo right after david says "just another sad old man all alone dying of cancer" its awesome :chug:

The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is better than Dark Side Of The Moon.
