I can't say that I have a favorite CoB album because they are all great. It depends what mood I am in. Lately I have been listening to Hatebreeder a whole lot and really enjoying it.

IheartSP 07-18-2005 12:42 PM

I'm not really an imperanon fan, I think they have good potential later on, but the harsh vocals don't fit at all. It sounds liek straight power metal unlike Bodom who has speed metal elements, and sometimes the cheesy upbeat melodies and the harsh vocals really don't mix at all.

But on a different note....

I went to Ozzfest yesterday, and it was AWESOME! I got there after the 2nd stage was ending becuase I didn't care about any of those bands, and I sat down in my seat and waited for about half an hour until In Flames came on. They did a pretty bad job, it was hard to hear the guitar, and they didn't play any old songs, and the new stuff was pretty crappy.

Next came Black Label Society, and by that point, the whole entire lawn behind me turned into a giant mud fight. It was literally raining mud and the back row of the pavilion where I was got all caught up in it, and you couldn't watch the concert unless you were contempt with being hit iwth mud every once in a while. I maybe caught 1 song of BLS, I think it was Suicide Messiah, and they did pretty good. I was too caught up in the mud fight to really pay attention.

When Shadows Fall came out, the mud thing was dying down a bit and I wanted to watch the show. They were a band who I think is ok, and pretty good as far as new american metal goes, but they were amazing live. I liked their stuff studio and thought it was decent but when they played live they just did amazing. I really liked how Jon Donais did especially with the solos. I went and got something to eat before Mudvayne came on, and there was this fence blocking off the backstage. The fence was broken into 2 parts, with a 3 inch or so crack inbetween, and I looked in and saw Brian Fair of Shadows Fall. I yelled his name, and he looked around and couldn't see where it was coming from, I yelled again and this stupid guy who works there told me to leave. I was so close to talking to him!

I went back and sat down while Mudvayne was playing and it was so terrible! The fat lead singer was in some black jumpsuit and he had this gay makeup on, and he cannot sing it was horrendus, nor can the guitarist play the guitar. I started booing them and a lot of people joined in, and they said, everyone is entitled to their opinion and that's ok, but I was just satisfied that they acknowledged our boos. They played for way longer than they should have and eventually it was over and the real show would begin...

The mudfight was all over after Mudvayne, and eventually Maiden came out. They started off with Wrathchild, and the bassline in the beginning was cool as usual, but then, nothing else kicked in. Bruce was up their singing but you couldn't hear a thing, same with the guitars and the drums. You could faintly hear the acoustic drums but I guess there was a problem and only the bass was plugged in. I was really worried I thought it was a joke or something. The crowd was even booing them and I felt terrible, I'd never boo Maiden I didn't think it was the right choice of thing to say. Anyway, they went into The Trooper and all of a sudden the volume just kicked in. Bruce ran out with a Lobsterback jacket and a British flag and they totally rocked the place! Bruce sounded a bit weird during the song but it wasn't that noticeable. After the song they apologized for Wrathchild, and said that during the night they'd only be playing things from the first four albums. They did all the classics like Number of the Beast, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Run To The Hills, Phantom of the Opera, Iron Maiden, Revelations, and Running Free. During Number of the Beast, a big devil came out, and when they did the 666 it would flash in big letters on the screen behind them. Eddie came out during Iron Maiden and battled Janick as usual. Anyway the show was just plain amazing and I was screaming my lungs out, I had never seen anything like that.

Sabbath came out about 45 min later and they sounded pretty good. After a few songs it was really boring, and the only one they did exceptional on was Black Sabbath. I left while Ozzy was saying if we cheered really loud they'd do one more song. I really liked what they did with the lighting and such and had some cool moving backdrops.

Overall, Ozzfest was really awesome, between Maiden and a giant mudfight it was so cool. When we left there wasn't a blade of grass left in the lawn.

Sounds awesome man. I personally would love to see Mudvayne live though, haha.

IheartSP 07-18-2005 12:47 PM

Their singer just screams things and the guitarist has absolutely no melody its all just slop.

 exactly what i would expect from some1 who likes maiden....they dont have any melody but i still like them

Shattered_Future 07-18-2005 01:38 PM

Mudvayne had a few decent songs...overall, they are kinda bad though.

How'd Bruce sound doing D'Anno's (sp? Iron Maiden's singer from the first 2 albums) parts on his songs? They have 2 different voices...

And yes, from what I've seen, In Flames sounds really crappy live.

Why didn't you go see the second stage? I heard it was better than the first...Arch Enemy was on it, along with a few other good bands.
Their singer just screams things and the guitarist has absolutely no melody its all just slop.
That's the point in a way, haha. They are like a technical death version of nu metal. All the members are extremely talented, but only some people can get into the music. I'd kill to be as good as their bassist.

IheartSP 07-18-2005 01:42 PM

I don't listen to metalcore or death metal, so the 2nd stage didn't have anything for me.

Bruce has always done fine with Di'Anno's songs I think he usually does them better.

Forlorn Hope 07-18-2005 01:47 PM

wow nobody is really talking about cob in the cob thread anymore

IheartSP 07-18-2005 01:47 PM

I wish CoB were at ozzfest

me too...i also wish they would do a U.S. tour for their new album :upset:

IheartSP 07-18-2005 01:50 PM

I have a pretty good feeling they will.

About Maiden again though, they announced yesterday at Ozzfest that they are releasing a new album in June 2006.

AA-12 07-18-2005 01:51 PM

They will, trust me.

Shadows 07-18-2005 01:51 PM

I'm glad you liked Shadows Fall. Their studio stuff is excellent, but they're even better live. Jon Donais never ceases to impress me.

On a sidenote, I've been on a serious Norther addiction lately. I just bought Mirror of Madness and that album KILLS.

IheartSP 07-18-2005 01:52 PM

That album is amazing, especially the use of piano, and I love all of the solos and leads.

AA-12 07-18-2005 01:53 PM

I went through my Norther phase about a month or two ago, haha.

Forlorn Hope 07-18-2005 01:56 PM

I get like 60% of my music from soulseek. It's great for hard to find stuff. If you don't like downloading though, try amazon.com.

Forlorn Hope 07-18-2005 01:59 PM

i might order a cd or 2...but i have to get some guitar stuff first...but i have no job...so my current money intake is $0
:upset:

Shadows 07-18-2005 02:00 PM

Norther has better vocals, and lately more interesting melodies. Not to mention the cold, atmospheric keyboards with the always appropriate piano.

The only thing that would make them better is if they would shred like Alexi once in a while.

AA-12 07-18-2005 02:00 PM

SoulSeek :-)

They get really repetitive after a while though.

my computer is pretty slow...we are also getting a virus so downloads take a long time...

Blasphemy!

I actually thought one of their strong points is that they never got repetitive. Every song has a different sound and feel...to me, at least. :)

thats kinda how things work...some1 discovers a new band they like and listen to them for awhile....then they get bored with them and discover a new band to listen to for awhile....repeat process

Give it about 2 weeks and then say that :p

I think the only band I can't get tired of is Opeth. I don't get tired of most Jazz either.

I've been listening to them for quite a while now. :) If they get repetitive after a while then it must take longer for me.

Funny - I get tired of Opeth after listening to the first two minutes of one song. I thought they got VERY repetitive after a while. :) I guess you and me have different tastes.
