i am the robots 12-31-2005 02:18 PM

My plans for the new year as of right now:
none, except for the fact that it will be with a certain group of people

TojesDolan 12-31-2005 02:26 PM

I don't know.

If my friends are sober I might go with them somewhere.

If they're drunk, I'll probably go with them somewhere anyways.

But basically stay with the parents.

drumass04 12-31-2005 04:02 PM

Hey guys and gals,

I haven't been on in nearly a week, I apologuise profusely. I've been running the light show for a production at a theatre nearby. What kind of stupid time to have a show, between Christmas and New Year?!

Anyway, I'm back and I'm just about to try catch up on some crits. Unfortunately my poetic mind is in a rather large drought. No ideas seem to be coming forth and jumping at me. So exepct some sh!te in the next week or so :P

Tim

Dream Theater are amazing!!!! :)

TojesDolan 12-31-2005 05:51 PM

Oh yes they are.

Those instrumedleys just melt my insides like no other.

Anyhow I was out for a while as well. But I return and there's too much good stuff to work on. :-/

I'll just write a TITTIE and that's it.

drumass04 12-31-2005 06:00 PM
No I haven't, but please elaborate. I like Stephen Fry and I like poetry, so tell me more.
It's called "The Ode Less Travelled". I was listening to him being interviewed on the radio and he had such a passion for writing I decided to get the book. It's quite a complicated read, using all the correct literary terms, but I've found it's increasing my knowledge of all the aspecs to poetry. It's got the different types of metres, rhyme, form, diction and poets of today. I just have a feeling that since this forum is as big on critting poetry as it is writing it, it would prove extremely useful for any writer. It let's you see into the more technical aspects of poetry, starting from the basics and reaching to much higher levels of understanding. The majority of people here I feel would benefit from reading it.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 01-01-2006 01:50 PM

So after about 20 beers, I went outside (about 4am) and had a screaming contest with some guy in a local band. It was rediculous. How was everyone elses night?

drumass04 01-01-2006 01:58 PM

I was meant to go to bed pretty much straight after midnight, because I was walking today. Unfortunately I couldn't sleep, so I did an all nighter and then went and walked, in the snow/rain/hail stones/wind for 8 hours. But hey. t'is all good fun :)

Sounds like a good book, I may have to have a little looksie.

Yeh, I was reading through a few posts earlier and saw that there is some decent stuff around :D

Sounds very interesting, I've always found Fry to be hilarious but and he's got quite the amount of talent about him. I've just checked this out on Amazon and it looks like something to add to my wishlist. Thanks for the recommendation, I think I'll enjoy it/learn from it. :)

I stayed home until midnight because my dad got a little upset about some fire crackers my cousins were popping outsde my aunt's house, and spent the night with harsh alcohol (vodka, whisky, tequila and some beer woohoo) with my friends making really, really stupid mixes and getting people wasted.

We made this Australian kid puke and the rest were so wasted they couldn't even stand in their chairs.

I was a bit dizzy, though. :(

EDIT: I'm not hungover yipee :D

Nightvision 01-02-2006 09:10 PM

aaaaand here come the 06ers... *mans the guns*

TojesDolan 01-03-2006 12:12 AM

Some are very well behaved.

But then again, they might turn out to be be the devil, so we can just wait and post our little hearts out.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 01-03-2006 12:16 AM

Back to the topic of music. Music is gay, I hate music.

Discuss.

metaliq 01-03-2006 12:33 AM

In general... music is pretty okay.

I have been digging the new Thrice a lot. The addition of a synthesizer added much needed depth.

Wow... I haven't seen you this bummed on music since the last Hawthorne Heights album... you want some prozac dude?

A_Perfect_Sonnet 01-03-2006 12:36 AM

I basically hate crap nerdlingin scene kids who think they are good, and play at dumb new year's eve things when you're half drunk, and wont let you get in on it. **** them.

Nightvision 01-03-2006 12:37 AM

Ah. Bitches.

A_Perfect_Sonnet 01-03-2006 12:38 AM

It's also what my myspace says.

I put up props to Acapellica, w3rd.

Indeed.

Kids that know the popular songs everyone can sing to are the ones who get praised, while I stay in the corner thinking of my Opeth and my Necrophagist and singing along to Ozzy Osbourne.

So misunderstood.

drumass04 01-03-2006 12:32 PM

I just get taunted cos of my music taste so I keep quiet and pretend to like all the crap people around me play.

I wouldn't mind it if all the 'metalheads' I know actually appreciated the fact that metal isn't the only type of music in the world. They just don't seem to appreciate the fine arts of jazz etc.

There are 3 'metalheads' that appreciate other musical genres in my neighbourhood. Unfortunately I don't see the appeal of lots of screaming etc. Maybe that's why they all hate me :puts on thinking cap:

On a slightly brighter note; got a girl friend yesterday it's been nearly a year since my last. Shows what a party can do for ya :)

Tim

deathscreamingsheep 01-03-2006 12:41 PM

There are no metalheads or music lovers in my neighbourhood full stop (in my age group i.e. 16-18). I think there's some bunch of 12 year olds who have guitars but that's it. The rest is composed of wigga/chav/wannabe gangsta/white trash whatever people say in your region. Lovely place. But that's the advantage of going to a sixth form outside my town.

MidnightHysteria 01-03-2006 12:58 PM
I just get taunted cos of my music taste so I keep quiet and pretend to like all the crap people around me play.
People don't make fun of my progressive leanings because it's all stuff they've never heard of, but I do get seriously bashed for my metal tendencies.

That's funny, as I was just listening to Thelonious Monk before moving on to Iron Maiden....
There are 3 'metalheads' that appreciate other musical genres in my neighbourhood.
You win. Mine is just me and a new-age (NOT to be confused with new-wave) guy. Everybody else just feeds on what the radio/tv says to.

drumass04 01-03-2006 01:04 PM

Hehe, I very rarely listen to the radio. Especially all of the main stream stations. Unless I know something decent is on.

I'm more into the alternative/indie stuff, everyone else is either metal or 'pop'.

I also listen to a lot of jazz, blues, funk and then into the Classical/Baroque era. Very occasionally Romantic.

I'm also seen as strange because I listen to 'classical' music. But hey, I'm me. I listen to what I enjoy and I'll listen to anything once. Whether I listen again is another matter.

Another thing that get's my back up is when people immediatly dismiss a band/music because of the genre or reviews it gets.

/rant

deathscreamingsheep 01-03-2006 01:22 PM

I don't get seen as odd by my friends really because I like the same stuff they like as well as all my other stuff. They're generally pop-punk/emo/metal/alternative/whatevers trendy in rock fans and I do like that stuff but then I also like jazz, funk, soul, prog of all kinds, classical, indie and pretty much everything else so I'm ok as far as that goes.

drumass04 01-03-2006 01:39 PM

OMG!!! This is unbelievable!!!!!

I've managed to get lighting companies to send me free t-shirts :D

The powers of knowing good english and being able to write emails :)

Wasn't he the guy that was obsessed with form and considered non-structured poetry tripe and to prove his point wrote a crappy villanel or pantoum or something like that and passed it off as a masterpiece?

That being said, a lot of people here could benefit from that. :thumb:

I have absolutely no idea. But he certainly knows what he's talking about. When he goes into all the little details about the form and structure though, you really realise how much effort people put in, and how people on here don't even think about it.
