you don't "pay money to be accepted", that's a pretty common misconception

you pay rent and dues, rent is self-explanatory and dues go to various functions the house does, like our meal plan, things we participate in on campus, tv/internet, et cetera

opportunities for leadership, being in positions in greek life looks great on resumes
meet a different group of people than you might otherwise meet
social life has a lot more opportunities than you might have elsewhere
academic support from others
there's nearly always something going on
opportunity to be in greek campus activities (varies from school to school, but usually schools have a greek week or something like that, or do homecoming)
etc
