Squirrel 06-03-2006 12:24 PM

Yeah, that's exactly the attitude to take.

AA-12 06-03-2006 12:24 PM

It's not that big of a deal to be honest.

Squirrel 06-03-2006 12:29 PM

Maybe to you.

But having morons going around spouting false terms, about an instrument that I spend hours a day learning and teaching [because I love it to death], is rather disheartening.

AA-12 06-03-2006 12:32 PM

I absolutely love music to death. Playing and listening to it too. Also, i've been on this forum long enough to realize how bad people make guitar look. My case isn't nearly as bad as most.

Squirrel 06-03-2006 12:32 PM

So why are you so happy to use such retarded false terms.

AA-12 06-03-2006 12:33 PM

Because it doesn't affect my playing at all.

Squirrel 06-03-2006 12:34 PM

You can't be that dedicated , seeing as you called these pathetically simple ideas 'too technical'.

AA-12 06-03-2006 12:36 PM

I'm talking in general, not just with that.

Squirrel 06-03-2006 12:36 PM

oic

MRDuCran 06-03-2006 12:55 PM

I'm sure Squirrel is a big fan of Death, and a million other people, so don't think it's fair to call anyone undedicated to music just because they call something a different name when people like Chuck don't know scales or theory, just make stuff up according to what they like and what sounds good to them.

I spend every week around people who don't care about whether the Mixolydian scale is the 5th mode of the Major or the 9th mode of the minor, but I can respect that. People like us like to know pretty much everything properly but should understand different opinions.

that's exactly what i try to learn. in school i had music-lessons, but i HATED music with passion. i hated my teacher, i hated notes, i hated instruments. one year after i changed to art/draw-lessons, instead of music-lessons i started to play guitar. Therefore i don't know (or knew) anything about music. i'm self-taught and thats what my guitar teacher teaches me: theory.

TEST 06-03-2006 01:48 PM

Squirrel needs a dose of GTFOMI.

As to Drop A : AEADF#B last time I checked.

Heh, I used to like art too!

I was actually thinking about quitting music in college/uni and start doing it again just so if music fails, I can fall back on a good job and I'm pretty good at drawing so I'm sure there's space somewhere.

But I still want to be in a band, rock the fuck out and write and play good music.

But the point of that post was, knowing the correct terms isn't important to some people, and it actually doesn't matter nor does it affect your playing, and I used Chuck as an example.

AA-12 06-03-2006 01:53 PM

+think about most indian classical artists that know basically no theory at all, and have a way better grip on music than we ever will.

To add to the art thing, i'm a huge fan of art and photography. My entire life I have been.

repcak 06-03-2006 01:54 PM

for some ppl yes, for another it does affect. i want to know theory, cause i know i need it if i want to play/write something.
for ppl like chuck it will work, for me it doesn't.

me too! i remember when i was in the Tate Modern in London when there were a Andy Warhol gallery - it blew me away.
i love photography as well! on my homepage i tried to make some nice shots on the beach in poland and as well i have a gallery of a cemetery *g* you can see all the photos on my homepage. my sister is studying photography and film making.

@Unholy: if you really love photography you will know www.photo.net for sure. its updated every day... tons of great photos from all over the world

AA-12 06-03-2006 01:59 PM

Yep yep. Photo.net is great.

repcak 06-03-2006 03:10 PM

@Mitch: cause i post you the link to the interview with Chuck and you quoted him several times today. for me the most important statement was not, that he doesn't know any theory, for me the most important thing was this:

I was never too good at copying other people's material, which is why we started writing our own songs as soon as we formed Mantas.

because he didn't copied other guitarists and didn't learnt songs by other bands, he was able to develop his own unique guitar style. thats something that nowadays too few guitarists too. most of us, just copy licks, riffs by other bands.

AA-12 06-03-2006 03:16 PM

I'm prett sure he did have outside influence though on his music. It's impossible not to.

repcak 06-03-2006 03:31 PM

i think there is a big difference between influence by playing the songs, or by (only) listen to them ... and try to copy it. try to copy something and come up with something new (and your own style) and copy something 100% correctly are two different things (imo)

MRDuCran 06-03-2006 03:44 PM

I know he says he wasn't very good at copying, but naturally I am, so me and him are different. I've also read the same thing from Matt Heafy of Trivium, preferring to learn a few things here and there whilst developing his own style. You could say my style was like Paul Gilbert since he's my overall favourite guitarist and has made me who I am today, but then copying his licks isn't my own either. I have only been playing for 4 years though. Matt has been playing since he was about 12, Alexi since 10, Gilbert since 7-9 I think, Jason Becker since 5, Malmsteen since 5, etc so I don't really feel I'm ready. That's a small portion of the reason I haven't bothered joining/starting a band.

holy **** ... this guitar is beautiful O.o
it isn't realised yet?!

i said that i plan to get the Jackson DXMG next month, but today i just discovered the Jackson DKMG. the DKMG is even more beautiful than the DXMG, but i have to pay 150-200€ more :upset: so i think i will stay with the DXMG :)

Shadows Within 06-03-2006 04:08 PM

How much is the DKMG my DK2 was $575

Crysiss 06-03-2006 04:10 PM

I was thinking of getting a DK too, But my 3 guitars are already suitable for metal playing.

repcak 06-03-2006 04:11 PM
How much is the DKMG my DK2 was $575
it depends on the exact model... 600-800€
