so you're telling me they don't wear expensive clothes, try to have sex with a different girl every weekend and generally act like bros

illmitch 12-11-2010 09:42 PM

some of the guys dress fratty some don't

i dont think anybody specifically tries to fuck different girls every weekend

negrodamus 12-11-2010 09:44 PM
what kind of stuff do they do? like what kind of stuff do you guys do together? i'm just curious. tell me this: is it not true that they wear expensive clothes, spend most of their time drinking and partying and trying to have meaningless sex?
dude...you're a fucking faggot.

uncle blockhead 12-11-2010 09:45 PM

i just don't understand how being in a frat is better than having a group of friends? i mean whats really the difference, i have always wondered that. cause you can pretty much do all the same stuff. to me frats just seem like people in frats are looking for acceptance, so they pay for it. anyone who passes the hazing and pays money gets in and is treated as a friend. that's not how things work in normal groups of friends, i never had to pay to hang out with any of my friends and they never put me through tests to see if i was worthy

negrodamus 12-11-2010 09:47 PM

blockhead did you get picked on a lot growing up?

illmitch 12-11-2010 09:48 PM

i'm a lot closer to the guys in my frat than i am to almost any of my older friends from high school etc, and this is true even when i go to school 10 minutes from my high school

just the way a frat works, you stay connected long after graduation, and you just get closer to the guys in it

i can honestly say joining it was one of the best things ive ever done

uncle blockhead 12-11-2010 09:49 PM
blockhead did you get picked on a lot growing up?
nah man, i had a lot of friends. i mostly hung out with the punk crowd though

uncle blockhead 12-11-2010 09:53 PM

i just see frats as unaccepting. not that i would want to, but hypothetically, if i chose to join your frat and i wore jeans, a choking victim shirt and torn up converses, told them i liked to do pain pills rather than drink and i wasn't interested in promiscuous sex or sports and would rather read comic books, play sega and spend time with my long term girlfriend they would accept me? i highly doubt that.

emilyyy 12-11-2010 09:54 PM

you've been saying the same thing for like two pages

illmitch 12-11-2010 09:54 PM

my pledge son wears normal jeans and t-shirts, likes fantasy books and played dungeons and dragons in high school, and more or less doesn't drink

and everybody loves him

we don't allow drug use in the house for legal reasons but there's no reason that you wouldn't be accepted

uncle blockhead 12-11-2010 10:06 PM

fair enough then, sounds like your frat is better than the ones at cofc

uncle blockhead 12-11-2010 10:08 PM

uncle blockhead 12-11-2010 10:13 PM

contrived [kənˈtraɪvd]
adj
obviously planned, artificial, or lacking in spontaneity; forced; unnatural

perfect word to describe frats. You join and initiate members, you make friendships because you have that common ground of being in the same frat. It's like joining a team, you pretty much automatically get along when you're in a team because you have that common ground.

tl;dr demographics

illmitch 12-11-2010 10:30 PM

and i am sure you are very familiar with this process because you have been a part of many frats in your years

give me a fucking break. At least with regular friendships you meet in a class or party or in my case online. It's a natural process.

Frats are artificial non-sense
