Im kinda underwhelmed by the song.
I felt the opposite. multiple melodies in 10/8 make me a little 'wtf'd.' Heh.

Syncratic 04-16-2006 07:04 PM

I can't wait for tomorrow.

Not just that I'll hear this 'amazing' song for the first time.

THE VIDEO may come out.

Moses 04-16-2006 07:04 PM

Ugh, that song is totally forgettable. I hope the album isn't Lateralus pt. 2. It doesn't get good till the end. I hope it grows on me.

Prince of Darkness 04-16-2006 07:19 PM

After hearing Vicarious, it really felt as if my life started a new chapter. I'm serious. Has anyone else felt like this?

Not really.

I don't think I'll have any more life changing music-listening experiences for a long time.

Lateralus and TMV's Frances the Mute were pretty big ones.

I love Vicarious though and I can't wait for the new album.

Moses 04-16-2006 07:21 PM

Definately not me. If anything it's a repeat of what I've already heard.

The last one I had was soooo long ago, Fredrik Chopin's Ballade in G minor.

Prince of Darkness 04-16-2006 07:26 PM

The album isn't anything like lateralus to me. It's the next step.

imo, Any music by Tool can be good in a way. Depends on how you look at it.
We all know(tool fans) that Vicarious and 10 000 WILL grow on you. It happens with Tool. You start looking at the lyrics and deeper meanings in songs and sh!t like that. imo, It's all good.

Moses 04-16-2006 07:29 PM

It just doesn't seem that inspired.

Det_Nosnip 04-16-2006 07:29 PM
I hate the Messugah part.
There is no "Meshuggah part." The influence of that band is throughout the entire song and probably album. If you're talking about the stacatto section...yeah, it's not the best part of the song.

Werny 04-16-2006 07:29 PM
Im kinda underwhelmed by the song.

The lyrics are good, but nothing amazing

?
I was underwhelmed and confused too. The only things that impressed me were the bass and drums.

And the lyrics make me cringe. Maynard has gone from being one of the best lyricists ever to a boring, almost "metalcore" lyricist.

toocool4tool 04-16-2006 07:29 PM

I told you Id do it and it has been done. I warned peeps that "therealpusicfer" site was not maynard and that id get it shutdown. Try to go to hismyspace now....

Oh my word, yes!!

Frances kicks the shit out of De-Loused, and it's one of my favourite albums. In 30 years, we'll look back on The Mars Volta the way we do 70's prog bands now.

That's right, I said it.

BlindWriting 04-16-2006 07:34 PM
In 30 years, we'll look back on The Mars Volta the way we do 70's prog bands now.
I certainly hope so. I think they're brilliant and very important in terms of crossing accessible music with originality, ambition, vision, and bringing back prog to modern ears.

Otherside 04-16-2006 07:37 PM

Just listened to the single now, and I was really blown away by the guitar and drums. Everything has pretty much been said already, but I really wouldn't be suprised if Tool was pulling the wool over our eyes, so to speak, with this single.

I don't know how you managed to call those lyrics "metalcore" lyrics. Have you ever read any Converge lyrics?

I think his lyrics are just as good as they've always been. Vicarious doesn't have stand out lyrics but they aren't bad at all, in my opinion.

Kage 04-16-2006 07:46 PM

They're some of the stupidest lyrics I've ever read

Moses 04-16-2006 07:53 PM

They are very bad lyrics and when I read them while listening to the song it made my opinion even worse. No more leaks for me, thank you.

Is this a fake?...

If so, it's better than the real one.

It ain't Tool.

I wonder if it's Isis?

deadohiosky9 04-16-2006 07:56 PM

That's the fake one that was floating around.

Moses 04-16-2006 07:59 PM

Yeah, I like that one alot better. Way catchier.

BlindWriting 04-16-2006 08:03 PM

I'm curious, is it an Isis song?

deadohiosky9 04-16-2006 08:04 PM

How many times have you listened to Vicarious? I'm surprised it hasn't grown on you.

I don't think its an ISIS song.

Kage 04-16-2006 08:08 PM

I don't understand why anyone would listen to the song more than maybe twice or three times a day. I mean, when you hear it in the context of the album, it will be like travelling through your home town in the middle of an exciting foreign country.

toolfreak 04-16-2006 08:08 PM

With the back up vocals is that maynard just doing them or is it someone else?

borisdablade 04-16-2006 08:09 PM

i think the lyrics are one of the best things about the song, to be honest I found the abstract themes of lateralus to be a bit contrived and pretentious.

Deth 04-16-2006 08:09 PM

I listened to it twice and liked it more the second time.

The lyrics are pretty dumb IMO.

Daven 04-16-2006 08:10 PM

I liked the song, but i was expecting something different. Mostly because of the whole Meshuggah influence.

Moses 04-16-2006 08:11 PM

This is the 5th time I'm playing it and then it's getting deleted because I don't want anything until the album comes out.

Kage 04-16-2006 08:12 PM
I liked the song, but i was expecting something different. Mostly because of the whole Meshuggah influence.
Oh, god, don't get me started on this again.
This is the 5th time I'm playing it and then it's getting deleted because I don't want anything until the album comes out.
Yeah i did that yesterday i dont wanna get sick of it:chug:

deadohiosky9 04-16-2006 08:16 PM
With the back up vocals is that maynard just doing them or is it someone else?
Back up vocals? Do you mean the little talking bits around 5:00? That's Maynard reciting some f'ucked up news story.

Daven, your avatar f'ucking rules.

Moses 04-16-2006 08:16 PM

These so-called "complex polyrhythms" are really simple and repetitive.

Some vocal harmonies are Adam, like on Schism, and others are Maynard like on Parabola.

Daven 04-16-2006 08:17 PM
Oh, god, don't get me started on this again.
Haha, i hadnt read the last three pages.

Thanks deadohiosky9. :thumb:

thunderzstruck 04-16-2006 08:26 PM

i cant find lyrics for the song

...care to provide a link?

deadohiosky9 04-16-2006 09:04 PM

go to http://www.songmeanings.net and search for Tool.

Otherside 04-16-2006 09:33 PM

So I've pretty much made up my mind that the song is a B-side and Tool is just fucking with us.

And for anyone who cares, my reasoning is simply too profound and interspacial to be transferred by any means save astral communication, so I'm sorry to say you'll just have to guess.

Txus 04-16-2006 09:36 PM

So I just listened to the new song and It's Ok, not what I was expecting but it's a good song, It's Tool so I know I will love the album, I think the Verse of the song is the best part.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-16-2006 09:41 PM

I didn't know Adam did any sort of vox. That's neat.

Otherside - Try me.

Moses 04-16-2006 09:42 PM

He does them live too... Very poorly.

Dr. Jake Destructo 04-16-2006 09:45 PM

You seem to be in a hating mood, Moses.

Don't delete the song. Save it, and listen to it two days. Maybe you're just Man-PMSing right now, or something. First you don't like Vicarious, now you're saying Adam sucks at singing...
