Prolly on Scythes Of Bodom

Guitars = ESP custom shop RVs with DR 11.50 hi-beam strings. EMG-HZ-H4 pickup with Gainboost (either EMG PA 2 or JE-1000). Straplocks = Shaller Strap locks.

Amp = Lee Jackson perfect connection GP-1000, VHT 2/50/2 (used to be peavey 50/50), rocktron intellifex, and a Dunlop Dimebag Sig. Wah (info thanks to Demoni). Cab = what ever the hell they can rent. In sudio, it's a Marshall cab (probably a 1960A). SETTINGS: I'm not sure of the VHT settings he uses, but the Lee Jackson is Volume -10, Gain -10 and pull, Treble-10, Alexi answered to my GW DGH question saying that Nothing else really matters on the GP-1000, but he uses Mid-10, bass about 4 and pull, Output on Master 2 (more bass response on master 2 as opposed to master 1) and master 2 master volume is about 4 as well.

Picks = Black Dunlop Jazz IIIs.

Before anyone tries to cut down the HZ-H4s, they're decent pickups. They sound like EMG 81s but without the flat frequency response. When run through the EMG PA 2 or JE-1000 they have almost the same sound but with a hotter output.


EDIT: If you want some more info, here you go: In the sudio, the cabs are miced with a Shure SM58 (the 57 and 58 sound very similar, but to my ears the 58 has a fuller sound) with no eq after the mic. The mic is placed on the outer edge of the Cone to let the bass roll off so it's not as bassy and the treble has more sizzle (if you mic directly on the cone, you get a lot of bass and strong attack. If you mic on the edge you get great attack but less bass and strong mids/highs. If you mic in the middle/edge of the speaker NOT CONE you get the highs to roll off and it's all low mids/bass and sounds like crap).

To everyone saying that the enormous change in tone from HCDR to AYDY is due to the EMGs, stfu. If you listen to FTR then HCDR, the tone is completely different. Same with Hatebreader and FTR. It has to do with how they mix/master the album (SW was recorded using Peavey 5150s, so it doens't apply here). The tone diff. from FTR to HCDR is due to the fact they used a decent ammount of compression on the guitars and doubled up the drum tracks. Listen to TL&S. The tone isn't a far cry from FTR. That's due to the EMGs and some mixing differences. However, the main reason for the "tone change" is because of the VHT power amp has more low end, the bass is more powerful on this album, and everything seems to be eqed a little different. If you've heard Alexi live from the HCDR days until now, you'll notice he sounds the same. It all has to do with mic placement and compression/mastering.

thats a lot of information. how can i place such a gainbooster? how to install it? because i will buy a Jackson DXMG this summer which has EMG HZ pickups and in the guitar forum someone says that EMG HZ with gainbooster sounds even better than active ones. i'm just interested.

I have a DXMG :) I like it a lot. The HZ's aren't as bad as people make them out to be, I think. But, I've never really tried any of the so called "god" pickups.

I have a DXMG as well, I like it a lot, it gets the job done for me. :)

I'd agree. We obviously have drastically different beliefs and I doubt either of us will change. It's best to avoid that discussion.

I saw an Agathodaimon "Past Shadows" tab in that folder. Never seen an Agathodaimon tab anywhere before. Sadly looked to easy to hold my interest though.

You'll need to do things to the guitar that I suggest you don't do yourself unless you've been trained. It will involve drilling a hole in the body and messing around with the pickups and wiring.

I have Jackson's TurboCharger gainbooster in mine, and I can say that it's the most brutal sound I've ever heard out of a single guitar. When I turn the boost and overdrive all the way up it sounds like my amp is spitting fire from the speakers. :p

I'm still confused as to what kind of pickups I have though. They have HZ printed right on them, but they're definitely active. :confused:

sounds like you have a jackson DK series, in which case its not active

Yeah The Final Countdown is labelled as Children of Bodom on most p2p programs but it's Sentenced I think that did it.
