I'm not making fun of people who play Skyrim. I just think it's a ridiculous game, and can't see why anyone would play it. it's a buggy piece of shit. the first person view combat is inherently flawed. the story is haphazard. the NPCs are retards. the path-finding is atrocious. the programming in general is awful. I could go on, but you catch my drift.
it's simply an awful game from a technical and design point of view. it's a severely weaker game than say, Neverwinter Nights. I don't get why anyone would ever play it when it is so seriously inferior to other - actual - RPGs. the LOL was mostly at the fact that this game exists at all, and its success, despite of its many lacks. IDC if people like it. that's fine. |
shut up
what rpgs do you like christsimpson?
I have seen you talk about "JRPGs" in here. I love those types of games. don't consider them RPGs in any way whatsoever, but thought I'd mention that I love them anyway, heh. especially Final Fantasy IX and Chrono Trigger. the best games that I consider digital RPGs (as in games that actually allow role-playing): Neverwinter Nights Baldur's Gate Planescape Torment |
let me guess... you think Japanese adventure games qualify as role-playing games...
they're not 'technically' but they are widely considered to be rpgs and that's what everyone refers to them as |
the best games that I consider digital RPGs (as in games that actually allow role-playing):
Neverwinter Nights Baldur's Gate Planescape Torment figures. all the games that are about as awesome as watching paint dry |
@blockhead I apologise for sounding snarky. but when you've played pen & paper RPGs, you might get annoyed that railroad-adventure games that have no resemblance to RPGs are referred to as RPGs. I furthermore accept that there are minor elements of role-playing in those games.
|
Christsimpson is one of those "anything that isn't DnD isn't an RPG" type folks, eh?
not surprised |
not surprised
cant say i am either. |
extrapolation is not the opposite of interpolation
|
Christsimpson is one of those "anything that isn't DnD isn't an RPG" type folks, eh?
not surprised
there are a probably a million great RPGs out there, not just DnD. but RPGs for a computer is incredibly difficult, due to the fact that a computer can't adapt the environment on the fly. there are very few games that successfully do this. pw Neverwinter Nights does it, and World of Warcraft with RP-addons do it - though somewhat outside of the "actual game". |
don't get me wrong, DnD is loads of fun, but to say a game like Skyrim or Mass Effect isn't role playing because there is a characteristic already applied to your character is just ridiculous
whatever, I meant d20 |
that's not what anyone is saying either.
there are a lot of great non-D20 games as well. |
