I went in a chat room at Toolband once, all I remember is something about pedophiles. It was a pretty stupid chat.
So I just downloaded that .wav version of Vicarious and burned it to a CD-R to play in my stereo system. It sounds so f'ucking awesome. Maynard's vocals don't sound so much in the background, they are much louder. |
Look at toolshed, lots of people complaining about it.
Im sticking my neck out here due to not hearing it, but im seeing all those who didnt like Lateralus are the ones complaining about the single the most. Thankfully everyone here loves it, and thats the important opinions i'll listen to.
I can almost gaurantee you will like it. :) Any one notice how funky Danny plays the first groove around 1:50 :amaze: I noticed it today. |
Im listening to it the second the clock hits 12:01 on monday lol. No point waiting for a radio station stream-fest, but at least I dont feel like in cheating my buddha-like intention
And if that video is a fake, thank god. Im excited as hell at the prospect at seeing the genuine new one though
Don't worry man, that video isn't the Vicarious one. It's a Chet Zar animation used on the Lateralus tour that's been looped. Someone's put the song on top, and claimed it's the real thing. |
I'm kind of disappointed with Vicarious. It's kind of predictable. It seems too familiar, like it's just another Tool song, which is great, but... I don't know, I think I was expecting too much. Maybe I haven't listened to it enough and it'll grow on me.... maybe.
What were you expecting? It is another Tool song. Like I said, it didn't kick me in the teeth. It's not as intricate as Opeth, or as frantic as the Mars Volta, or as cold as Dark Tranquility, or, etc. etc. It's Tool, and it's the single, and it made me feel good listening to it while taking my dog for a walk around some fields. I still don't think OMG THATS AMAZING, but it is what i've been waiting for, and I'm really glad I have it, and I still want to listen to it. It's a good song, good atmosphere, good message, headbangable, what else do you want? People with expectations like they'll feel like when they first got into Tool will probably be disappointed. |
Its better to not have any expectations and just let the song be what it is, but that can be a little difficult.
|
This song put Tool in perspective for me, and I like it. It feels warm and cosy when I play the song.
This is what I don't understand, some people would download a leak by any other band, but not Tool. Why is that? |
If I know where to get a 100% real leak, I'll get it for Tool.
I don't know why, but with Tool, it's like I NEED to hear it. My friend is coming over right now so we can listen to the single, I can't wait. |
This song put Tool in perspective for me, and I like it. It feels warm and cosy when I play the song.
This is what I don't understand, some people would download a leak by any other band, but not Tool. Why is that?
They want it to be more special when they hear it on the official release date. |

Like from Undertow to Aenima, or Aenima to Lateralus, I need that progression, but I don't hear it with this song. It wasn't a step up, they just kind of stayed where they were. And yeah, it's the single, and I really shouldn't base how I'm going to feel about the album as a whole on this one song, but, well, I can't help it. Eh, whatever, we'll see. It has been better the last couple of listens, but it still kind of bothers me. I dig the vocals though, and Danny still kicks my ***. And yeah, I expected that feeling. *shrug* |
Any one notice how funky Danny plays the first groove around 1:50 :amaze: I noticed it today.
Yeah, I love how it seems he's going to continue the fill and then stops on the snare. |
This song put Tool in perspective for me, and I like it. It feels warm and cosy when I play the song.
I feel the same way. It might not be an amazing song, but it fills that void I expected it too. I feel good listening to it. Chongi, as far as progression goes, I don't think you should try to think about it much right now. You can only begin to judge the progression once you hear the album in its entirety. |
Toolshed is the biggest conglomerate of idiots I've ever seen outside of Stormfront, so I really don't care how they feel about anything, much less the new single.
After checking it out, I completely agree with you. |
So i've listened to it like um 4 times?
And deleted it off my comp, slightly by accident but then i could have redloaded it but chose not to. I found myself humming it earlier, its pretty catchy. I'm not gonna listen to it again till i hear the whole album o_O And i can see why people at TDN are moaning, the vocals are strange and it does sound like they have used parts of other songs. But still those bastards are being picky, this track is fresh and is only the single...which means better stuff is still to come :D |
This is what I don't understand, some people would download a leak by any other band, but not Tool. Why is that?
Because Tool is completey different experience :p . Some people just want to wait and hear the entire album as a whole and take it all in at once, I guess. I tried really really hard to wait but failed miserably...I cracked last night at like 3:00am! Hehe.
Toolshed is the biggest conglomerate of idiots I've ever seen outside of Stormfront, so I really don't care how they feel about anything, much less the new single.
Yeah, no kidding...Some of those people are so anal about everything and hardly any thread ever gets anywhere without it going to sh!t. I've been a long time lurker of that site only because they seem to be on top of things though...there's always new information surfacing over at those boards (though half of the time it's all bs). |
Vicarious
 ... that just made my day |
I just heard this song. I gotta say I'm not impressed by it at all. It's listenable, and not too shabby, but the drums aren't nothing like previously, ie. lateralus, aenima, eulogy, etc... Guitars are way too high, and guitars were never the greatest part of tool. Bass and drums were. :( Maynard's vocals are different, not bad though. But just like how I enjoyed Metallica's St. Anger, I'll probably enjoy this album too, although I'm still hoping other songs will be better than this one.
Not bad though, hoping for better. :) |

Well, i do remember reading somewhere that the first single would be the 'most commercial' song Tool has ever done...so i guess we can't really judge the entire album based on only 'Vicarious'.
|
Shit, I'm sat here listening to Character and i'm craving Vicarious. Someone STOP ME FROM LISTENING TO IT AGAIN.
Oh, and as for putting Tool on a pedistal, i'm going to take them down from it. I want to try and just treat Tool like all my other favourite bands. If Muse's or Radiohead's new album's leak, i'll be d/ling them, and listening to them fully while purchasing the albums when they come out. If this new Tool album puts them back on a pedistal, then so be it. (This what I'm going to try and do anyway.) |

Only you can do that. Spray raid in your ears, that should do the trick. |
Yeah.. what was I thinking, I don't even LIKE Tool.
*ears bleed* |
IM about to listen to the single, pretty stoked as i can't wait for the new album to come out!!! i bought the Guitar World issue with an interview with Adam Jones, its a great interview you guys should check it out. Anyways, As far as the single goes remember that they have to stick to a certain format for radio play, so this doesnt mean that its the best song on the album and i think its probably not at all!!!
I cant wait!!! :D:D:D |
I like the song but they really could do better with the lyrics. "Don't look at me like I am a monster"...?
|
****... the single doesnt work.
anyone know where i can get my hands on a working copy? on a website or something??/ thanks |
I like the song but they really could do better with the lyrics. "Don't look at me like I am a monster"...?
I'll look at you like a monster when you hit 666 posts. To be honest though, you could say the lyrics were a "Step down" from anything on Lateralus, besides say Tick's and Leeches, but I really do quite like them. They're more down to earth and have more of an apparent point while still having different interpretations. |
****... the single doesnt work.

I don't know where you can get an actual copy...alot of the links seem to be down now..or over exceeded their download limit. |

word!! thanks man im listening now its good man wicked bassline!! |
The YSI link like 10 pages back still works.
I just got back from a week long trip to Virginia and just downloaded the song. I like it a lot, especially the vocals, since for a lot of the song they're almost like a raspy whisper, which suits the song quite well. The very end reminds me of the end of "War Pigs" by black sabbath, how it speeds up. Seems kinda out of place, but overall the song is awesome. |
Are stations playing Vicarious or is it still slated for Monday?
|
I'm not sure but I think they're still waiting for Monday...at least my local station is.
|
It'd be stupid to e-mail the program director of my local station about it again, so I'll wait until Monday or scope the stations tonight.
|
I think the only reason they might be waiting for Monday is to avoid any legal problems..but I'm sure most know that the nearly everyone's heard the song by now.
|
This may sound stupid, but I don't care. I've said it before, but I'm waiting till' Monday to hear the single, for the express reason that it's the band's wishes.
It's been nearly FIVE years....what's 48 more hours? |
2 more days.
|
^Those were my intentions as well but I wasn't strong enough. Oh well. Actually, my original plan was to wait until May 2nd to listen to anything off the new album..then I decided it'd be okay to listen to just the single on the 17th...then...nothing went according to plan..i couldn't resist.

The album will still be a spectacle. |
I think the songs pretty ****in cool. I expected it to sound a lot like Lateralus' songs. I didn't really expect it to be a huge jump from Lateralus. How could any band make something a huge step up from Lateralus? Not cause its their best CD, just because how do you make a huge stepup from lateralus :p.

Sweet avatar! As my cousin says, there's at least one good Pittsburgh team every year. Guess that was the Steelers this year. |
Sweet avatar!
As my cousin says, there's at least one good Pittsburgh team every year. Guess that was the Steelers this year.
haha thanks. Yeah it definitely isn't the Penguins. I still have hope for next year though. They just sent 8 players back to their farm team, thats how lousy they are. They're still only ever losing by like 1 or 2 goals though :D |
Yeah, I don't see the lyrics as very "emo" at all. The actual genre of emo's lyrics are very, very different from these.
I think the song kicks ***.
Sweet avatar! As my cousin says, there's at least one good Pittsburgh team every year. Guess that was the Steelers this year.
What I really hate is how the Penguins are gonna' get the #1 draft pick again this year and they'll probably do poorly next year anyway. If they decide to draft Phil Kessel, that means they will have Fleury, Malkin, Crosby, and Kessel all on the same team, which is just rediculous. I don't like Crosby much, meaning I don't really like his style of play, but I do respect him. He is an amazing talent that comes around maybe once every 10, 20, or maybe even more years. This kid as an 18 year old is already a top center in the league. I believe he has 97 points on the season with 2 games to go. I hope he gets 100 or more. Good for that talented guy. Just never forget, he was almost a Ranger! :p |
