Piano Overlord (Scott Herren's other project)
The songs are a lot more keyboard/synth based, as the name implies, than the usual Prefuse. |
Sebadoh - III
and I'm about to watch The Wire and then go see Man Man play live. It's going to be a great evening. |
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - No More Shall We Part
so far so good why is nick cave so effing awesome |
The Flaming Lips - Clouds Taste Metallic
Hüsker Dü - Zen Arcade The Bronx - The Bronx TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain First time listening to all of those. Clouds Tast Metallic is my first taste of pre-Soft Bulletin FLips and it is excellent. Couldn't really dig Zen Arcade except for a handful of songs, but I'm not surprised because I don't normally listen to stuff like it. I'll definitely give it a chance to grow though. The Bronx is mind-fuckingly awesome. Return to Cookie Mountain is a hell of a lot better than Desperate Youth. |
I was waiting for that. But Zen Arcade just seemed a bit boring for some reason. Maybe I wasn't in the correct frame of mind at the time.

Zen Arcade has a lot of boring stuff in it. But the good stuff is so good (including just about anything by Grant Hart) so keep listening :)

6 So Many Dynamos 11
awww daaang. It's weird that I know these guys, and it sucks that everyone (Pitchfork) hates Aaron's voice. Are you listening to their new album? |

The Fiery Furnaces
These guys deserve all the hype. |
Sooo much of The Residents. I downloaded a large collection of albums and I can't get enough of them. Man, this rekindles my already fiery passion for those eyeball headed strangers.

I think 154 by Wire is FINALLY starting to grab me. It's been a longtime coming.

Wires on Fire - s/t
At last I found this. It's tamer than the EP in some respects, but there's some really memorable songs here. Kind of what The Bronx did on their new one. I miss the mean riffs though. |
I'm digging the new Yo La Tengo album as of late.

Nope, I'm at school - so I'm in Des Moines. They played the Vaudeville Mews here - only about 25-30 people attended the show. |
Scott Walker
Pixies Magnetic Fields |
yeah I'm checking out the link just now.
OK Dimez, critique: Class of '05: I have to say I really liked this song a LOT. The intro is cool, in a sloppy Tom Waits-y kind of way. The chorus is killer, catchy-as-**** and with great vocals which remind me of Defiance Ohio. I'm not suckin' it to ya, I really love this song. Book Of All: Cool song as well, great vocals again and nice noodly guitar line and jazzy drumbeat. Almost as good as the first song. Firecracker: Not much I can say, it's a fun pop punk song. and the last one isn't really a song so... All in all, you guys have lots of potential. I like your sound a lot, it's like a great mix of things I like. Special props to the vocalists. I'd not have done this, but the first song was so good I couldn't not. Keep it up man. Incidentally, what is your role in this band? |
I've been listening to the Flaming Lips all night. Listening to all of their 80's, 90's and current stuff on shuffle is really cool.

my new thing. br3ad_man and sketchyjoe will like it.
When do you have time to do this, you post on here your whole life. Its good. |
I've been listening to a lot of Fiery Furnaces and Björk lately.
|
I tried listening to those songs, but apparently MySpace music hates me and doesn't want me to listen to music there.
|
I listened to that first song. It was alright. Sounded a bit too much like ska in places.

Swans - Filth
Calvin Johnson - Before The Dream Faded |
many thanks for the critiques, these are very nice things to hear. I'm the drummer.
Pretty awesome. I clicked to listen as it was mentioned in a punk forum thread, and I didn't realize it was your band. Good stuff. This week I intend to listen to almost exclusively music from the czech republic. |
