Enfant Criminel may well be the most hilariously awful thing that I have ever come across.

Jaundice 04-10-2010 04:25 PM

we spend way too much time looking for awful things

Meatplow 04-11-2010 01:28 AM

well, I suppose we learn to know what truly defines bad rather than bashing Opeth or something

Jaundice 04-11-2010 01:32 AM

I just like to look for gems in an unexpected places. I think it's a bit limiting how most people base their listening on what's supposed to be good and what's sure to appeal to them, and tote slogans like "Gucci Mane sucks" or "Marilyn Manson" sucks without investigating to make sure.

I mean there's no harm in taking a half hour or so out of your life to listen to an Avril Lavigne album or a recording of static and crackling noises to see if you can get something out of it.

FatalEnergy 04-11-2010 01:49 AM

Jaundice gets deep

Meatplow 04-11-2010 01:57 AM

i'm really not that much different, I do have a pretty strong eye for what is going to be exceptionally unappealing before I listen to it though and this is mostly in the form of bland, mediocre, uninteresting material rather than anything traditionally defined through terms like "bad" as such.

I have been surprised before though.

Murdererer 04-11-2010 02:01 AM

if someone tells me to check out a band and we generally like the same kinda music ill listen threw a few of the songs but if i dont like their sound im not gonna listen to the whole discog to see if theres a cool part in there somewhere

Jaundice 04-11-2010 02:07 AM

There are different ways to go about it

You can grab something really mainstream and current like Ke$ha
You can go for something very avant garde that doesn't follow any typical sonic conventions, like maybe Milan Knizak
You can get something with a really tacky cult following like Marilyn Manson
Or I could listen to something I have some sort of prejudice against, like a backpack rap album or some band I don't understand the hype around
And of course you can always go for something that's obscure without any sort of cult status, just obscure because no one cares about it. Like a random album from a Worst Hip Hop Album Covers list.

Obsessis is incredible, in my top 5 power electronics releases. I did like Innerwar quite a lot as well.

Just gave my first listen to this post-industrial masterpiece

Don't even get me started

Meatplow 04-11-2010 09:23 PM

I can't believe you haven't heard that before.

Calling it post-industrial is a bit of a stretch, come on. There is maybe some vague electronic/hip-hop influence.

Jaundice 04-11-2010 09:31 PM

I feel that the electronic element on the album was consistent enough to be more post-industrial than some of the stuff we talk about it in here.

Theres almost constant turntablism and some of the electronic / noise interludes had me geeking out. Perfect rock album.

Meatplow 04-11-2010 09:38 PM

It is very kraut.

Jaundice 04-11-2010 09:46 PM

There was one song on it, I forget the title, but it had a pronounced krautrock / musique concrete influence.

These maggots are very avant garde

Epidemechanical 04-11-2010 11:57 PM

no trolling slipknot was awesome

idk why they started taking themselves so seriously, though - their original songs were hilariously over the top and intentionally ridiculous

like people = sh*t

classic

Murdererer 04-12-2010 12:24 AM

lol post-industrial masterpiece

u should be a band promoter

RunAmokRampant 04-12-2010 12:50 AM

Jaundice 04-12-2010 01:45 AM

Any of you guys listen to DNA?

I'm downloading their discography right now, they're easily the best band on No New York.

Meatplow 04-12-2010 10:48 AM
listening to a lot of ben frost. id love to see one of his performances live.
Yeah, i'm glad he is starting to get some attention.

Theory of Machines and By The Throat are incredible.

Meatplow 04-12-2010 11:22 PM

current 93 - thunder perfect mind, all the pretty little horses, swastikas for goddy, imperium
death in june - brown book, rose clouds of holocaust, scorpion wind, kapo!
sol invictus - lex talionis, king & queen
fire + ice - gilded by the sun, hollow ways, birdking
nature and organisation - beauty reaps the blood of solitude

ron can recommend you the european stuff, Rome is solid however as well as Tenhi

Aakon_Keetreh 04-12-2010 11:26 PM

GenevieveIconoclast 04-13-2010 01:49 AM

Cyber Baphomet - don't know if anyone would know them here.

scaRRed 04-13-2010 04:32 AM

My industrial favourites are:
Ministry (godfathers)
Pain
Prong
Skrew
Two
Genitorturers
Revolting Cocks
White Zombie

Jaundice 04-13-2010 04:34 AM

I need some White Zombie.

And it's probably about time for my second Ministry disc. Which should I get, Psalm 69?

Meatplow 04-13-2010 04:35 AM

I need to listen to Revolting Cocks at some point.

I thought you would have heard The Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Taste by now.

Jaundice 04-13-2010 04:45 AM

Nah, just a pretty good handful of Rape and Honey listens and a casual glance at Twitch.

Meatplow 04-13-2010 11:00 AM

it's pretty much The Land of Rape & Honey pt. 2.

Psalm 69 is a classic. I haven't listened to anything past Filth Pig but it was solid.
