All right I need some recs on the most depressing music you've heard. It would help if the lyrics were in the same vein, too. Doesn't really matter the genre.

the song "Suicide" is his suicide note to his parents, i think.

rotanimile 06-26-2010 03:19 PM

at least he went through with it good for him
at least he went through with it good for him
the song "no pity for a coward" was supposedly written after his dad was going to commit suicide, and wimped out, and this song is making fun of him.

Planning For Burial - Leaving

I still don't know all the lyrics, but even with those aside, there's just something about this album that I can't help but feel for. I personally think it's amazing, and I really wish someone would review it here to get the word out.

Sound clip on the band's page here:

http://enemieslist.net/kvlt/artists/planning-for-burial/

DBlitz 06-27-2010 01:32 AM

yea that's def a good album

Morumbar 07-05-2010 04:45 AM

Downloaded that album once from Slays4 Days. Haven't really listened to it yet.

Anyway, my pc pretty much gave up on me (not a software problem, sadly) so I can't really get on MX very often anymore. But I wanted to ask you guys for some doom metal in the vein of Forest Of Shadows' most aggressive moments. (Not the gay moments with the Ville Valo like clean vox..! I can't listen to that crap.)

EdgeOfSanity 07-06-2010 08:40 PM

Best Integrity album?

Anyone rec me something like the first two Hades (NOR) albums or early Enslaved.

Looking for something vikingish but with zero cheese factor.

JizzInMyPants 07-13-2010 01:16 PM

Need Recs for epic depressive melo death with a doom touch

Katatonia (brave murder day era specifically)
Rapture
Ikuinen Kaamos (specially the closure EP sound)
Be'Lakor
Medebor
Cathis Ord
Saturnus
Insomnium
In Mourning
Swallow the sun
October Tide

alrdy plan on checking out agalloch

publicastration 07-13-2010 01:23 PM

Mourning Beloveth

Shattered_Future 07-13-2010 01:27 PM

Funeral too. But they hit more the doom side.

Det_Nosnip 07-13-2010 02:04 PM

Hmm well would doom-death be ok? Early Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride, etc might be a good place to go, especially Angel and the Dark River & Turn Loose the Swans for MDB. Songs of Darkness is also epic as **** and one of my favorite albums, but it's not something everybody can get into.

Might want to check out Amorphis, too. Earlier stuff might be more what you're looking for, but I prefer the later albums. Later is I guess more prog/powerish but with clean+growled vocals.

Early Anathema was mostly doom with some death elements, although they make a much better post/atmospheric band IMO.

RetiredAt21 07-14-2010 09:56 PM

Drugstep 07-14-2010 10:00 PM
