A) I first got into Floyd because I heard Another Brick in the Wall a few years ago.
B) One of my friends told me that Comfortably Numb is about drugs. I laughed in his face. He's not heard the entire album, by the way, just ABITW (II) and Numb. Hence why I laughed. I then told him it's about the isolation that the album is written about, and he argued with me for a good 10 mins about it. |

Your friend was right. Roger came up with the lyrics after having to play a show totally drugged up. |

The entire album is about isolation, sure, but it's heavily tied in with the effects of drugs. |
The movie is loosely based on a character derived from both Waters and Barrett. All the songs about war and childhood are loosely based of Waters childhood, when his father died in his war, his view of education, etc. By the way, doesn't Waters talking about war in music get repetive and boring? One of the reasons why I'm not a big Wall fan. The scene where Pink is just sitting tripped out with his cig burned down is taken right out of a time Waters walked in on Syd. And the scene with the groupie in Pink's house thing, when he is tripped out and then freaks out actually happened too.
|
Yeah, it becomes pretty evident its about drugs after watching the movie.
But the movie really didnt help me get a better understanding for the album at all. Trust me, i know what the album is about, but the movie was so crazy, i couldnt follow it. (and No, i dont need an explanation from anybody again) but thats why their pink floyd :) |
That's true. The movie is almost just as confusing and hard to follow as following the concept from the album.

i can't decided on which album i want next by floyd. I either want PATGOD or meddle want cd should i get.

You're more likely to find PATGOD, as I am yet to see Meddle in regular cd stores. They are both awesome albums though, and very different. |

I've seen Meddle more at stores than PATGOD, i don't have the money to buy them both right now, so from people who have both of them, which one do you think is better?
|
I go my Meddle at Wal-mart
:O me too. |
I go my Meddle at Wal-mart
Really? I've only seen DSOTM, WYWH, The Wall, The Final Cut, PATGOD and Animals. Too bad. But that's what pirating is for. |

I'd say meddle, but I think both are really cool. |
this is from a while ago, but which version of run like hell has the synth in the beginning? I've listened to the ones off of delicate sounds of thunder, is there anybody out there, and pulse....and thats all i have. S'not on there. So where is it?
|
I'd say meddle, but I think both are really cool.
thanks ive been looking for an answer like that all night, i know their both great albums and will end up buying both of them but i am low on cash, so i want to know which to buy first. thanks man :thumb: |
live versions of run like hell don't sound as good on the cds, but when i heard the aus Floyd do their live version, it was much better, they added a sweet drum solo at the end, with cool lazer effects. my dad was even saying that they might even be better sounding live than Pink Floyd because he went to one of their concerts in the '70s and said that Aus Floyd sounded better live.
|
as my roger waters thread got deleted...i was wondering who thought amused to death was kinda crappy compared to all of his other work. I mean cause pros and cons was more floyd-like. Ehh, ideas?
|
Just a random question for you guys, does anyone else really like Genesis?
yes i do. it's though like Peter Gabriel (he wasa Genesis' member, i think....) yeah, i like them... |

No it didnt.... http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?p=6680949#post6680949 |
genesis is cool.
|
Buy Meddle first. That's my opinion, but I like the songs on Meddle more. Even though I like PATGOD also, I prefer the band without Barrett, because his songs were usually shorter and more poppish.

It's true. Aussie Floyd were great imitators, sounded like songs were ripped right off the albums. Which is okay, I guess. The show was all about the Lights though. No lazers, just an amazing light show with cool stuff projected behind. They did have an extended Comfortably Numb solo, but I'm sure still do they same one for every gig. Carefull With That Axe, Eugene was extended to an epic song too. |
Someone may burn me Les Claypool's cover of the Animals album

They did a great job covering the songs. |
I couldn't find Meddle and Animals anywhere, so I burned my friends.
Anyone else love the song Sheep? The piano intro is amazing. |
Animals is far and away the best floyd record, ever. simple as that. That record... wow. its just perfect.
and ive got to add on to the Aus Floyd props: those guys are phenomenal!!!! my mind was blown to bits at their show.... i just couldnt control myself. being able to dance to a real band doing One of these Days... and the Careful!!! oh my... oh my my my my my my |

Actually, sheep is my least favorite on the cd, although I still like it.
|
"Get out of the road, if you want to grow old."
Classic line. |
I think Animals is a bit overrated on this forum. It's a great album, sure, but I'd say there are other Floyd albums which are quite a bit better.
|
Personally, I would say Animals has the best insturmentals out of the Floyd albums I have heard. Plus, it's one of the most politically charged album of it's time, but it's not punk.
|
I have a question:
Do the songs on Wish You Were Here flow into each other, like the songs on Dark Side of the Moon? |
Yes and No. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (I-IV), Welcome To The Machine and Have A Cigar all blend in somewhat, but the music stops for the beginning of Wish You Were Here, and you hear people talking...
